At first I was mad that Iggy couldn't run on walls in this game until you realize fighting him would be literal hell worse then Roy, Ludwig, and Lemmy combined.
I'd like to imagine that every time Mario geta into contact with a regular acorn he magically gets a normal powerless squirrel fursuit and becomes a furry.
To be fair, it still comes out right when the pipe faces up or down. It doesn’t come out going directly downward or directly upward. Edit: once it touches the ground I mean. It doesn’t instantly start moving right as soon as it comes out of the upward/downward facing pipe.
When he said "It has two modifications: winged and parachuting. A winged one travels across the screen, rising and falling 1 tile off of its horizontal axis as it moves. A parachuting one descends slowly towards the bottom of the screen, resuming its basic behavior when it lands. It can be placed inside of a block, pipe, and bill blaster. No, in a perfect world, SMM1 would have had the acorn and this update would have the propeller and the ice flower, which would be a fire flower variant in all game styles.
I was originally disappointed when it wasn’t the ice flower revealed, but after using it in my level, I am actually happy it exists and it’s fun to be.
I honestly prefer this being added over the ice flower The Super Acorn was the ONE powerup that was introduced in New Super Mario Bros. U, so it was odd that we just now have an NSMBU item in the NSMBU theme

The Super Acorn, also known as the power-up from Update 3.0 that REALLY does not feel like a power-up that belongs in an update I'm surprised that the Acorn wasn't in the game initially, but at least it didn't suffer the fate of the Penguin Suit (Seriously, that suit had so much potential for SMM)
Yay! Item Breakdown still exists! This one was really informative for me. I knew you could move Cannons placed on Conveyor Belts, but I had no clue Squirrel Mario & the gang could do the same!
I had an idea of a level where you had to jump on floating Goombas' heads, and you were in a night theme so that you could adjust better for your stomps. Thus seems like a much more reasonable alternative to low gravity for that kind of level.
I seriously love how in the smm2 community people are still people, with their own thoughts and opinions. That's something a lot of communities don't have.
My first world in my Super World is forest, and I have all five of those levels centered around the Super Acorn... ... I'm glad the bumper also resets the flying squirrel boost, since I'm not the biggest fan of the twister. Bouncing off of the blasta mechakoopa's homing bullet to restore acorn boost is also pretty fun.
Ok, so he mentioned that the acorn jumps in the night theme seemingly ar random... But we know that randomness is takan off from player imputs in SMM2... Does that still apply to the super acorn or is it the big outlier?
There's still no "true" randomness in Mario Maker as everything is determined by Mario's movement. This is just a cleaner version of something like a Clown Car randomizer.
I know some people are bummed out about no Ice Flower but the Super Acorn is super fun for gliding across traditional stages and finding secrets and some of the don't touch the ground levels I've seen using this power-up are bonkers. Thank you for the breakdown of this underappreciated suit.

7:09 Apparently, the height that the Super Acorn jumps is NOT actually random. DGR recently played an Uno Mas level that exploited this behavior. Depending on which powerup Mario has, the height and length of the Super Acorn's first jump is completely standardized according to that powerup. Now, I have not yet worked out the details of how the Super Acorn jumps, and all credit is due to F. Buffalo for creating the level (ID: 4QD-662-WVG). I just thought that you should know about this. The Propeller suit was used because it’s a more well known power up in the new super games and is in u so they used the more used power up instead of the new one.
I was really hoping for a contest to let us explore some ideas with this power-up... This is definitly my favorite addition to the game besides slopes as a Traditional Level Creator myself
One fact about the super acorn is in multiplayer when you grab another player you start gliding from the second gliding animation instead of the first much superior gliding animation.
Is it really flying squirrel mario when he glides through the air? Also it would've been cool for a varrient of the acorn as the P acorn which lets you boost as much as you want without losing the glide.
With all of the discussion about the ice flower, I think the ice flower would work well as a new power up that is in all normal game styles. Since it is just a recolor it would be easier to make in all game styles. as well the smb style would have different gameplay using the ice flower compared to other game styles since you can't grab things in that style.
Raise of hands: Who actually uses the Propeller Mushroom to any significant degree? Either way, I do enjoy the inclusion of this power. It could make a good tool for "Don't Touch The Ground" levels. Heck my favorite moment with it was one such challenge in New Super Mario Bros. U's challenge mode.
Not used it yet, but I suspect that it will make for far more interesting 'don't land after leaving the ground' levels than the propeller suit did. (I just prefer the way the flight feels as squirrel mario but it's a more versatile set of abilities, even if it's not as strong at the propeller suit's core strength)
In your discussion of gliding at 0:54, you forgot to mention that while gliding, your downwards speed is not constant. You fall faster if you are not moving sideways at max speed.
I dunno why anyone mentions this, but you FORGOT one of the Super Acorn modifications: the Progressive Super Acorn (identified by a Mushroom). For those that are new to the game, a progressive power-up essentially means that a Mushroom will spawn instead of said power-up (in this case, the Super Acorn) if Mario comes without any power-up among spawning, essentially mirroring the Mario games on NES.
In New Super Mario Brothers U there was a mode you could select where there was a bunch of challenges one of which gave you the super Acorn from the beginning of the stage and you had to reach the end of the stage without touching the ground because it would instantly kill you also if you took damage you would immediately go game over as well. I hope that people make those kinds of levels in Mario maker
In the ground night theme, the bounce height of a super acorn is not RNG and can be predicted. The behavior is affected by the x and y positions of when it originally started. It is also affected by how other sprites are placed around it. At x=9 and y=3 in the starting sub area with no sprites (except mario), it will take exactly 27 bounces to bounce its highest jump. To do this, just place two walls with a vertical gap where x=9. RIP Ceave's MM2 RNG contraptions. :( P.S.: Sorry if this is wrong, I haven't tested if different switches produce different seeds and different outcomes. I've tested this in multiple levels on my own switch so it should be fine.
Remember in Mario Maker 1 when all the Little Timmys would make levels in NSMBU because it had the best graphics? I have a theory that the reason 3D world exists is that its a floodgate for Timmys. Mario U definitely has the coolest mechanics out of any of the themes, and now that it isn't the designated 8-year-old style there are more good levels with it to play.

This item is way better than i though! But i still need Ice Flower for every theme! Just imagine those game objectives! "Reach the goal as ice Mario", "freeze [number] of enemies", "reach the goal while carrying Freezed enemy"
Hey man so I tried to do this exact randomizer. I even went frame by frame to see the exact placement of the acorn but no matter what i tried it wouldn't give me random results. I just got the exact same thing. I even did a test 100 times just to see
All randomness in Super Mario Maker 2 is reset to a fixed, predictable pattern after Mario restarts the level or goes through a pipe. The “randomness” only changes if the player controls Mario differently from the other times they played the level. For example, the game factors in the number of times Mario has jumped. Therefore, to stop getting the same random behavior, put a playable section before the randomizer, one that will be beaten with a variety of movements.

The propellor suit is only good for vertical levels and levels that are open and specifically designed around it
Super Nut is probably my favorite Powerup. So glad I don't have to use the Propeller in New Soup levels anymore.

fun fact: the "less effective" glide after you boost is actually more effective than the regular one in night sky theme if you do the air twirls
I can imagine a troll where the player is too high too see the real end of the level, and gets anti-softlocked by a fake exit, and the very end.

All randomness in Super Mario Maker 2 is reset to a fixed, predictable pattern after Mario restarts the level or goes through a pipe. The “randomness” only changes if the player controls Mario differently from the other times they played the level. For example, the game factors in the number of times Mario has jumped.
Therefore, to stop getting the same random behavior, put a playable section before the randomizer, one that will be beaten with a variety of movements.

Fun fact: when flying squirrel Mario tries to boost in the air while holding a player he will, but it will act like a spin jump in the air
I feel like the ice flower should be a variation of the fire flower, and it should be available in every game style.
