    Greetings from Japan -
This video is truly a remarkable and inspiring profile of Samuel and his family’s self-sufficient homestead in Brittany, France. Samuel, his sister, and his father are deeply thoughtful, articulate minds living an extraordinary dream. Their self-sufficient way of life is nothing short of admirable.
Samuel’s intellect and practical wisdom shine through in every aspect of his existence-from growing all their own food to managing the daily needs of their farm with an innate connection to the land. Raised and homeschooled in a rural environment, he’s cultivated a profound understanding of the world, paired with a quiet devotion to caring for his father and sister. The simplicity of their life belies the depth of knowledge and precision with which Samuel runs the farm, embodying a harmony with nature that is rare and deeply fulfilling.
I connected so deeply with Samuel's sentiment about preferring to stay at home on the farm. I too find peace and fulfillment in the self-sustained life we’ve built, where everything we need is right here at home. His methods remind me of the traditional farming practices here in Japan, where small farmers use no fertilizers or pesticides, employ ducks to control pests, weed by hand, and grow heirloom crops-farming practices as natural and pure as Samuel’s.
This is one of the best videos I’ve watched on UA-cam, or anywhere else for that matter. Thank you for sharing such a profound and beautiful glimpse into this life.
    Sincerely,
    Bear

It has taken lifetimes for things to get as awful as they have and it will take lifetimes to undo the damage. He sees that. He knows that this won’t come to fruition in his time.. but he also knows that he can make a difference. He is planting seeds of change and simply knowing he has made a positive impact on not only people but the composition of the soil is “payment” for him. That is beautiful.

Thank you for finding and sharing Samuel with us, Peter. My dad was born in Brittany, France (hence why he named me "Brittany") but his parents moved away after WWII for a better life in Canada and ultimately the US. Now that I am 36 years old (after being born and raised in FL), my husband and I have chosen to move to Europe where we are currently trying our hands at caring for and farming on our little plot of land in the South of Portugal (7 acres, or 2.8 hectares). I absolutely LOVE listening to Samuel's perspective and seeing how maybe my dad's life could have been had he never been moved out of Brittany at such a young age... thank you for sharing and for being such a kind listener ❤ We WILL visit Samuel one day... then he can be visited by a 2nd American UA-camr 😉

"Culture stems from the land and from the people farming it".
This is a powerful sentence. If people lose connection to the land, culture becomes an amusement for pastime, and soon you will feel like going to disneyland.
What I love the most about this video, is how close his lifestyle is to Tituts and yet hies views vary greatly. The modern world tends to tell us that you need formal education and to travel the world to come up with ideas, while these people teach us that giving your brain time to work and the right nutrition, it will form incredible thoughts. This is the true diversity that all these soulless corporations boast about.

Peter, Bethan's response about "what do you feel about where the world is going?" Is spot on. Our kids are the ones we should be building a future for and instead we have become a society so involved in ourselves..our work, our school, our financial woes, or health, our social media..and never taking the time to just spend with our kids with no distractions, and teaching them morals and values and hard work and not allowing social media or the world teach them or influence them. Getting back to family. Same idea the Amish have same idea the Hisidic jews have....it always comes back to family and virtues.

@@jakew1362 I don't know the sentiment of the "vast majority" of rural Americans, but the imbalance caused by consumerism is pretty apparent.
I think it's the natural state of the vast majority of all people to seek the kind of equilibrium that a slow, purposeful life brings. That life's being made increasingly more impossible by the trappings and demands of consumer culture.
And I think people are feeling a growing sense of confined frustration and meaninglessness due to it. And I think those closest to their rural roots feel it the most.

seriously it is the question we all have when freedom of choice is at it's highest, the question you ask yourself on what you want to do in life. truly nobody knows and the beauty of it is that we are here and that we have that chance to simply just make something of it rather than be upset of the current state, you can either laugh or cry about it and its a sublimation that we all try to manipulate and jump the gun in this modern age with technology as he says, something im constantly thinking about is how its all connected, this video was a beautiful thing to see after many of these same questions i've been passively pondering as of late, and for him to be so direct and open with his goals and to see his life reflect that is exactly the kind of honest remedy to this societal sickness he not so subtly disses throughout the video, something to definitely live by for anyone, he's clearly taking his oath seriously, and the grin on his face when he says it is so, clearly is proof enough.
