      I just don't subscribe to this mentality. If I want to drink beer, I'll buy beer and drink it.
      It's not a supply or an essential.

    That turned out perfect, the SNS did great as expected. Much like air frying, you can lightly spray the chicken with oil before placing on the grill, to prevent the dry flour spots. Either way it looked delicious. Thanks for sharing😃

    So the Vortex cooks faster, and yes, it can be used for more than kettle fried chicken. My Vortex was $35 and I made a Sorta SnS out of a pair of $10 charcoal baskets, saving over $100

    This kicks ass. 2nd time making it and man can't believe how crispy it gets. Definitely helps if you have dry spots to use spray oil to coat it. Also I'm making it Nashville hot chicken style, that is my favorite. Good spicy crispy chicken.

    Made this last night for the family. I used sprite instead of beer, I also didn't add the egg yolks to the batter and somehow the chicken still came out pretty damn good. The family destroyed the chicken. The honey butter was the perfect touch. Thanks for sharing this, it's going to be a staple in our rotation of meals for awhile.

    I don't consider the Vortex a one trick pony at all. I use mine all the time. Of course it kicks ass with wings. but I often flip it up side down and cook with it for regular grilling of burgers steaks and whatever. It doesn't have quite the high intensity heat upside down, but keeps the charcoal in one area, and you can also use less charcoal than you would if you just poured charcoal in the grill, and when you're done, you just close the vents, and next time you use it, just top it off the remaining charcoal with a little lit charcoal, a very efficient method. It also works great for a reverse seared steak. It can also be used with the snake method, to provide a bit of a barrier, when you put it in the middle of the grill and whatever you're smoking. I've got a SNS coming tomorrow, so I'm not against it, just clarifying that the Vortex is more useful than you think.

    • @Weberkettleclub
      @Weberkettleclub  3 роки тому

      Right man!
      It's just not good enough at anything other than the wing thing.
      A CD can double as a coaster, but no one keeps them around because they're still mostly useless.
      I've done the side by sides in ALL of the other use-cases and I didn't see any reason to ever flip the vortex upside down.
      Your perpetual basket method mentioned is awesome, i could stretch that into being a vortex benefit - but it's not exclusive, as baskets and SNS will provide the same benefits. I do this method in my 26 and rancher.
      Thanks for the comment!

    I really appreciate this video because I already have something similar to the Slow 'N Sear that keeps the coals to the side so nice to know it works pretty much as good. I have to say one thing about deep frying though. It is not necessarily less healthy, depends on the oil you use! If you use a healthy oil will be actually healthier just not near as much fun and you have to deal with all that used oil! Anyway get me motivated to heat up the old Weber!

  • @katzsteel
    @katzsteel 6 років тому +1

    Now this looks like one of your best! I plan on trying though I don’t have a slow and sear. Does it work just as week with charcoal basket on one side. Should I use both or just one? Concerned one wouldn’t get the grill hot enough.

    • @Weberkettleclub
      @Weberkettleclub  6 років тому +1

      Hi Katz! You can definitely do this without any accessory. I would probably use 2 baskets just to be sure you can get enough fuel going.

    That chicken looked and sounded amazing! The Vortex indeed creates a volcano of heat.
    But I think you had the Vortex upside-down for wings.
    Placing it small end up creates an intense, focused heat. So it makes for a great sear for steaks. (So there *are* other uses for the Vortex).
    Large end up is more suited for the wing cook you did.
    Newly subbed and looking forward to more of your vids. ~brian

    I tried this and there were clumps of dry uncooked white flour on the putside of the chicken. Also 200 degrees for chicken thighs resulted in them being too dry and stringy inside.

    Well, this recipe looks good. I may even try it.
    But you know what I’m not going to do? Chew into a fucking microphone. By all means capture the initial crunch to illustrate a point, but ongoing mastication nauseates an audience to the point of loss of appetite.
    You wouldn’t chew in my ear. Don’t chew into the fucking mike.

    I like your video's but I don't watch them very much because you are unprofessional. Because you cuss no other bbq UA-camr does that. But it's your channel in unsubbing.
