I stand before the tall, stone tower, rain and wind and the darkness howling behind me. It's entrance unbarred, a different kind of darkness greets me. Looming upwards towards the tower's apex, a set of stone stairs spiral towards the Heavens, with no end in sight. I begin my ascent of the tower. The march upwards began heavy and slow and only became slower as the very masonry seemed to emit a strange, sapping chill. Minutes of climbing slowly gave way to hours, as the stairs grew more crumbled and their pacing more distant. What was once methodical steps, gave way to clambering and climbing up against the rock-like walls of the tower. Further and further, wider and wider the footings became spaced until, with a single misplaced footing and a lurching, grasping reach... I fall. Tumbling. Cascading. Plummeting back down in the near pitch darkness. There is no sound, or movement or pain as I finally stop. All I can feel is the rain and the wind and the darkness howling behind me, while the tower stands tall and imposing in front of me again. I begin my ascent of the tower.
@HAHb-zc2dp Yes, there are thousands of dungeon synth releases. But not everyone sounds like this one... You've got your Fief type projects. Then you have your Aindulmedir projects. Then there's your Hedge Wizard style, etc, etc, etc. My point is that DS has a lot of sounds and this is one of the more rare ones. Have a nice day, and maybe go outside once or twice a week. Lol
This one and 001. They are running in loop whether i am working, drawing maps, reading or prepping my next d&d session. I thought nothing could come even close to Mortiis but i was wrong!
You guys have no idea how hard this shit is hitting while studying Antigone's tragedy, especially Häxmästaren, damn dungeon synth is the best for this study sessions
You peel your eyes open, nestled in the back of a small rowboat. A tall sticky figure, standing at the bow rowing. “Good morning.” He slowly croaks with his deep and raspy voice. Staring at his back, looking like a bag of bones in a cloak. only his wrinkly old fingers showing past his cuffs. “Or evening I should say. We’ve arrived.” The boat gently nestling upon the marshy shore. the lights of fire bugs and lanterns piercing through the fog. “It is time.” He exclaimed Only reaching out and presenting three things. a strange hat, a glowing ring and an old twisted septum. You barely see one eye and a creaky nose past the hood and shadow of the twisted wood. Eerily darker than the haunted backdrop of the wood what lie ahead. Casting a pure black shadow against the bog and green water. ….now continue the story.
The urge to ask questions is quelled by some ambient, ever-present, perpetual pressure to choose. But the choice was already made. It had to be the ring. Off the boat, gazing into the misty bog, you notice vague outlines of something resembling an overgrown path. You finally muster the courage to ask something, but only one thing, as even that required superhuman levels of effort. Alas as you turn back, you see the boatsman disappeared, and the waters impossibly still. "Did anyone ever succeed?" you ask in disappointment, but there's no answer. Not even the echo of your own voice, as the thick fog drowns everything. And even threatens to drown you.
Shit slaps, glad I got here early for this one! Great background for D&D or just setting that dungeon crawler vibe. Great cover art once again as well!
This helps relive the feeling you get in Winter. When the air silently sways clear and night drapes across the land, you have nothing else to live for but that moment. Eyes, clouded and your mind free of judgement, you live for the night with but only the need to breathe and be free.
Well, i see i have followed my fingers through the dungeons again. Im so happy this genre has continued to grow. I wish you could grab Lord Lovidicus/Jotunn under your label.
I loved Pär’s Aindulmedir project. I expected that he would’ve released this album under that alias but a new project is fine too. Good work as always.
In case anyone is interested in an English translation of the Swedish song titles, it would be something like this: The nine names Under the mountain of sorrow The northern wind To this, evil will yield The throne of kings The quiet dark The witchmaster The reign of winter
Within the first 20 seconds I'm envisioning a Lucio Fulci-esque scene of a zombie ravaged city. One man looks from afar and shakes his head in despair and frustration. This city is dead like all the others. I tell ya, Dungeon Synth as a genre more times than not really takes the mind on a journey.
Simon can't stay away from ambient. The long notes in Vinterväldet at the end is basically ending the album on ambient noise. There's a lot of story in this album, I'll have to listen to it a few times before I can guess at what it is.
