Even Jay Dee said that one of the big reasons he stayed in the basement making records when he was younger was because he wanted to be like Pete. He wanted to be as dope as he was, the sound he was making. When he said that to Pete Im sure Pete said Man, you are the producer im trying to be. 2 Greats that by the grace of God found each other through the music. Onelove ya feel me!
Pete Rock would never say he’s trying to be like Dilla, EVER!!! Please know that. He loved J’s talent and his work, and could have even been inspired by him, but if you’re leading a race, you’re never gonna slow down and jog behind someone that’s trailing you. J. Dilla is one of the ABSOLUTE GREATEST producers ever!!! Upper echelon!!!! And yet he still is not on Pete Rock’s level
@@jammyjam353 ok
Laszlo Dajka yezzir
@@jammyjam353 that very debatable. But remember that sometimes being the best means being prolific. J Dilla is one of the most prolific producer out there...there's a lots of J Dilla beats out there and some of them never been heard b4. Even 9th Wonder I don't think he's on Pete and Dilla's level, but because he put out so many great stuff..he's becoming a legend. I can vouch for both Pete and Dilla..sometimes I get confused who i like the most. But to sum it all up, Pete needs to release all those beat he keeps making.. I don't think there's a producer in New York who has found some of the rarest records than Pete Rock. Pete Rock is serious record digga.
buggin
Sampling/ crate digging is a damn art and should be honored. I mean, look at all the old artists' records that have been completely forgotten over time and thanks to producers like this they're being brought back to life and are being remembered.
Well Stated 💯
This should have been an hour long joint with Pete yo!
guess from somewhere where you know what's right
@@johnreder8167 word
Yeah, this was crazy short.
Please get Madlib to do one of these!
Pete Rock needs to get back with C.L. Smooth. They've been apart for 26 years already, word is bond.
Well... you probably mean “record wise”. Because 2017 they were on Tour together.
Lol
Pete you're the best, but your eyes tell me you're tired every single day from all that hard working.
it's hard being a triple threat (hes a dj, rapper and producer)
Neh. Dude looks faded
Ain't nothin wrong with gettin weeded.
Pete is the one who started that echoing saxophone technique that many hip hop songs used back in like 1992-96.
Yo, I copped "Mecca And The Soul Brother" on cassette (dating myself) when it came out. I can still see myself chilling in the food court, unwrapping the plastic from the tape, popping it into my Walkman and soaking it all in. Looking back, that was probably a turning point in my life. Hip Hop was going to be my future.
Music Power was the same for me..
Greatest feeling to buy a tape and pop it in the walkman or tape deck we came up in an amazing era the smell of a new cassette was euphoric and intoxicating 💯🔥🙌
I know that feeling!
He could stack every record on top of each other, he would still be higher.
Bless to the god...but damn Pete...u was wild blunted on this one brother
this is fucking beautiful.. i love seeing people be immersed in their passion
cmon dude, six minuts for pete?
Exactly my thoughts, should of had at least 20 minutes. You know pete was just gettin started!!
shoot put up the outtakes!
It was either six minutes or all fukn day. Ain't nobody got all fukn day.
I got all day for the culture.
pete rock, greatest of all time

Pete Rock is the man! Digging in the crates reminds me of break hunting with the legendary Tony D AKA Harvey Walbanger. May he Rest in peace. Big up to real hip hop and beat making!
The dopest MCs all were interviewed up in the books named *HOW TO RAP* and *HOW TO RAP 2*.
Everybody from Mobb Deep to Hieroglyphics to Pharcyde, to Kool G Rap, Chuck D, Black Moon, and Big Daddy Kane were interviewed, and others.
aint heard of them books todd.
This video is making me want to go digging again.
Props to Pete.
That "Its A New Day" song on the Skull Snaps record revolutionised hip hop drums in general. Countless songs used It as either key or integral parts of the beat. Thanks Fuse for this great video. Peace.
The music for this episode was PERFECT!!!
I love Pete Rock!! He is my favorite producer and such a cool, humble dude. Much respect to you Pete, you the best!!!
This is one of my favorite crate diggers episodes, what a lovely geezer!!
That beat that was playing when Pete was talking about the Skull Snaps album...whoa!!!
Still one of the best to ever do it. Even his Petestrumentals are headnod certified.
Making beats , shows you that there is infinite possibilities and there is no limits infinite thoughts , you can make thousands of different beats from same sample.
I really miss the jazz element in hiphop music. Pete Rock was known for this and thats why I love him as a producer, he's also a great rapper as well.

Man, I respect you all legends out there, for digging and producing fine fold out of golden stuff, but can't imagine myself collecting so many records. I just want to open that FL Studio or Reason and do some synth beats and find my happiness in 1-2 hours out of my time. BUT, I ADMIRE YOU CRATE DIGGERS - YOU THE REAL ART REPRESENTATIVES AND BECAUSE OF YOU, REAL HIP-HOP IS SUCH A WONDERFUL PLACE TO BE (Peace and unity, no beefs and roasts or pop and corns).
