Lived in Elgin in the early 80s, kinda challenging as both an RAF brat and a sassanach, went to school at Fitzharrys and came to really love the place and have many fond memories of being in the Venture scouts and then working as a driver at Gordon McPhail. My first Saturday job was at “Arnotts” (now a mall). My last home was in digs at the top of Batchen Street in a house above the Imperial Pub. Great video and yes it does seem a little characterless when I think of my experience in the 80s but still nice to watch - thanks.
Snap! I lived in that very same building at the top of Batchen Street for a couple of years around 1988. The then landlord was a lovely guy called John Ham, ex-navy I think he was. I always remember the tennant in the room directly below me - an older chap called Roddy who was as deaf as a post and played his scottish music too loud, but a really kind man to whom I shall always be grateful for having met as it was my first time living away from my childhood home. His room was directly above that pub you mentioned.
At least there are a few folks going about , worst thing they did was pedestrianise the high street it use to be mobbed on a sat afternoon but i think the retail parks just like many other towns have killed off the high streets free parking ect .Elgin ,Morayshire is a great place to live with good beaches not too far away and things to do golf, fishing, whiskey tours ect , but sadly the local council are doing there best to ruin the look of the place .
Elgin has some lovely architecture in the centre, but it is let down by those hideous and garish plastic shop signs and "for sale or for let" boards. Even that Clydesdale Bank sign is a f in eyesore and completely out of keeping with the building. And the Card Factory signage, or whatever it f in calls itself, next door is even worse. These plastic signs above shops etc, are the first steps in an area beginning to look run down and tacky.

Elgin is such a dump these days, like many towns in the UK, we used to be based in Lossiemouth in the 90's it was a great town then.
