That was a really enjoyable video. I have never been to Scotland but would love to go to Elgin. My Granny was from Elgin and in 1918 married my Grandad a soldier who was stationed there. Gran's Dad was a postman and I think it was his Dad or Grandad who was a stonemason there. Thanks for the video. My Gran's maiden name was Milne.

Lived here as a kid when my dad was stationed at R.A.f Lossiemouth. Elgin had two of the best toy shops ever, would like to move back for my retirement, miss it so much.
Deffo a trip down memory lane this!

I've lived in Elgin since my early teens. I used to waitress at the Pancake place, their spoon sized banoffee pancakes are fab!! I've eaten at Scribbles, great Italian food!! Cadoras has the best fish & chips in my opinion! That "Dandy lion" statue is a bloody eyesore, allot of people in Elgin think so!... I do like living in Elgin, it's a simple, quiet town... Thanks for the exposure! 😎👌

do you remember a Chinese restaurant called I think The Golden Star owned by Stephen and his family who moved there in the 70s from Nairn where he also had a restaurant with the same name on the high street there? often wondered if it's still there

Served with the RAF at Lossiemouth, way back in the seventies, used to shop in Elgin. We rented our first colour TV from a store in the centre, up till then we had a little black and white portable. happy memories

Thanks for this tour through the High Street. I lived here 40 years ago 1980 until about 83 , ages 8-11. A scaly brat. My Dad was at RAF Lossie. I remember there being a cinema on the left as you walked up the high street and in there I watched ET for the very first time. I loved Elgin. The parks, boating on the lake at Cooper Park, chips after swimming, buying my first dress in Woolies, Friday night at the community centre, the school (Seafield), the Bonnie Earl, the snow but not the cold 😂. I keep promising myself to go back…I need to get up there.

My Grandfather's home town and birthplace. He died in 1971 when I was a baby so dont remember him. Served with Seaforth Highlanders gassed and wounded in 1916 in France. I think his brother is on that Great War memorial. Grandfather recovered at Netley Military hospital near Southampton and understand his family home was in New Elgin Road. His surname is Officer, had connections with Banff-Buckie. His cousins, our Auntie Jean and Auntie Meta would send us the Sunday Post to us down in in Enlgand and every one would wonder who on earth are The Broons? My daughter loves them, we all do. Unfortunately we have no living Scots relative now but we are very proud of the connection and love the video. One day we will come back.

Nice to be able to visit my old hometown virtually. Left there in '67, last time home was '79. Lots o' changes, some good and others not so much. For some reason the High St. seems much narrower and even constricted in some places. A few of the old Pubs still exist, my local "The Crown" in Batchen St. never made it, unfortunately. Thanks for the wee tour, much appreciated.

I love the fact that this is narrated in the local vernacular. This is the third time I watched it and there’s still portions that I don’t quite understand due to the accent.

Certainly a Scottish accent but his is a central belt accent not a north eastern accent

From David Kelly of Northampton. This will be a great treat and help to my wife with memory problems. She was from Lhanbryde, just outside Elgin and that's where we shoped, apart from the little shops in the village of Lhanbryde itself. Fantastic video and great job keep up the good work😸👍.

    1993-1995.
I was a Malaysian university student in London and had a Scottish girl as housemate. She said she's from Elgin and her parents owned a candy shop there. It's one of those random conversations that sticks in your mind.
I only ever been as far as Glasgow and Millport Island. In 2022 decided to find out in UA-cam how the place looks like. lol.

Thanks for the video. Interesting that unlike Oban or Fort William, there don't seem to be any touristy shops, whisky shops or Scottish clothes stores like EWM.

I understand this is a literal High Street walking tour but a little pre-research might have helped the presentation. Completely bypassed Thunderton Place where the historic Thunderton Hotel is where Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed during the Jacobiite uprising. At the far end the Fitness Centre used to be the famous Two Red Shoes Ballroom where bands like the Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Kinks etc played in the 1960s. Maybe not the purpose of the video of course.

Ashers are all over that area with their bakery in Fochabers and they're terrific and Burtons moved further up the street.
Just as you passed Lossie Wynd there is a Thai restaurant called Pattaya on your right which is upstairs and wonderful food there.
