Thanks for including us. We appreciate the feedback you gave regarding the Hornet, our goal is to recreate real-life experiences and sometimes we run into dealing with issues that can't be solved with sdef or audio file changes. The cockpit audio was created with feedback from RL Hornet drivers, so this feedback was somewhat surprising to hear. That said; audio is extremely subjective - we try our best, with the tools we have available for modding, to create an authentic experience - no matter the aircraft. That said, I'd like to give my own feedback. I am a little disappointed with how little our work was showcased. The exterior perspective is best experienced by using the F11 camera, as we spend a lot of time dialing in this experience for those who love airshows. I personally have spent countless hours on the newest version of the Hornet / Super Hornet sound mods, and to have such little effort put into showing it off in a "BEST Mods" showcase is a little frustrating as an artist. It's okay that you prefer the default sound, though this is a mod showcase, so I would assume you want your followers to check out our work - your opinion directly contradicts that. Anyway; I mean no disrespect and am grateful for the feature, regardless!
I was ships company on the USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN-71 from 86 to 90. The core game F/A 18C is actually modeled perfectly to match realistic aircraft on a carrier getting beat up daily. Compared to some of the jets I have been in, the DCS model is too nice! lol No joke, the pilots and crew and just the inherent usage at sea is very hard on aircraft. Especially on the exterior. They have to contend with salt water corrosion so they wash them frequently. But around the engine nacelles and the landing gear are greasier and dirtier than the game. The weapons are much worse than in-game. Filthy hand prints and a lot of grease pencil writing all over the missiles are normal. Same with all the aircraft aboard. But the glass canopies and MFD's are spotless and polished. Same with all the controls inside the cockpit. They spend the time and energy where it's most needed. Cosmetics are not a priority. I would like to see DCS offer several choices on all their modules. Choose from a just left the factory in pristine condition to a few years wear and tear to full blown ripped dash covering with the cushion showing and bare metal.
Yes I would agree! Would be great to see more worn and torn planes, however my point was that the original skins still don't look quite right (not because of the wear and tear) but just of the texturing. There's great 4k skins which look awesome and have loads of grease and weathering :)
Echo19 in my opinion did a great job on the sound mod as I can tell for the outside immersion as I can tell as former soldier at air base in switzerland and watching multiple airshows at the axalp shooting range :)
In my opinion the F-14 has the best cockpit texture, it looks almost real and those details. I even believe that the F-14 might be the best module ever made in DCS... but i am not a expert.
@@NSA2k yes i agree in that, the refresh rate from the hud is lazzy, and always doing adjustments, the trim is also not easy. I mean, thats it how it was in real, but for the DCS Sim, they sould add like fly-by-wire support and better HUD. F-14D that would be WOW...
@@NSA2k yes and i thought about the "issue" with the F-14, they should make it fit with our hardware, we are not real pilots. Like the trim issue, in real the pilot was aware only by feeling as example. But virtual pilots dont have this feeling, so its very hard to trim it, and you have to trim it constantly. I am also for extreme realisms, but we should know the limits, the F-14 is simply to realistic, for that reason i simply fly the F-18 and i am learning the jet from zero.
@@NSA2k The F-18 is really good and in my opinion much easier to learn and use then the A10, i dont know why. I flew the F-18 ca. 80 Hours and i van tell, its the best aircraft, when you know how to fly it. You simply can do almost everything with it. But i had to replace the DDI textures, because it was looking shitty. Now i use more realistic DDIs and a clean new cockpit, dude i tell you, its amazing. I also own all modules, the A10 is very interesting, but no carrier landing, and its slow too.
@@NSA2k I actually hate to have the RIO there, i know, you have to work with him, but that kills me. I also own the F-4 Phantom, and there is RIO too, but just for fun.
Ironically, the DCS HUD is closer to what pilots actually see than the mod. That's because the camera's refresh rate creates an optical illusion that blurs the HUD, but in real life its lines are very sharp.
Nice work. Mods look great. Now if only if ED would come out with the Super Hornet ( wishful). I used to fly with a Delan wireless head tracker and open track software. Made the change to VR last year ( hp Reverb G2). Had my complete gaming rig stolen about two weeks ago. So just waiting for insurance to kick in. Had a Corsair Vengeance I9 10859K with a RTX 3080 64 ddr4 . Now I'll have to repurchase everything once insurance kicks in.
I will definitely go for the CF18A cockpit texture. Probably the sound mod as well , cause I mainly use DCS on servers with no external views. Regarding the MT, it works fine to me , almost double my FPS ( from 25 gone to 40 now , when I use high end settings in VR ) . But OpenBeta with MT crashes sometimes, and never got crashes previously. MT is probably takes benefits from my i9 gen9. I am now waiting for RayTracing to revive my RTX2080ti. Finally, 2023 may be the first year I do not need to invest in better hardware to enjoy DCS in VR .
How does it work with these mods that use the same (but different!) modded file? Surely, no matter which way you install them, something gets overwritten. An example here is the materials.lua file which appears in more than one mod.
I recommend the Dark and Clean Hornet cockpit, it's similarly dark, but a touch less scuffed. Additionally, the Hornet Light Fix (until ED complete the exterior lights LOD settings)
With MT on I get stutters in VR. It actually made my experience far worse! So I dont use it. I dont really need it since im running a 7900x and a 4090 so my FPS is pretty high and solid. But for some reason.. MT just causes issues for me.

Strangely, I noticed it after I returned to C-101 after ages, really. Otherwise I had no problem in previous planes (but I didn't try F/A-18 lately) and I've been using MT since it was available.
I dont see the rear seat, CF F18 training aircrafts are 2 seater planes, This is very well done and I do like that its from 4 Wing, Thats my home base, I have been repairing these aircraft for 18 years now at CFB Cold Lake
TrackIR stutters if you don't have a perfect frame rate of 120 or 60 fps all the time. At least with a GSYNC monitor this has always been a problem for me and it it also mentioned in the TrackIR forums. It has something to do with TrackIR having a rate of 120hz. My solution is to limit DCS's frame rate to 60 fps in Nvidia's control panel. Which is really a shame, now that MT provides such high frame rates 😓
Ah yes, but generally I don't have issues with stuttering. I also have a 60Hz monitor and use GSYNC which limits frames to 60. but even using the same settings and with frames pinned at 60, in MT I get stuttering randomly, and that is irrespective of the the location and situation!
