Once you hear Mario playing, you realize that it is far beyond everything you`ve heard before. He is not comparable to anyone. There are so many great flutists around the world. But there is only one Mario Caroli. Unique. Deep respect...
This is just amazing. No one was sounded like his in any recordings I’ve heard. Not only the sound comes out instrument but he even sings in the silence between the notes which gives his music a life.
@@marioargonne11 God, it’s my huge pleasure to receive a reply from Mario himself! I’m a Japanese so yes, I suppose I know the meaning of silence and its importance. And because of the superb pureness in your flute sound, which enabled myself fall into the silence of your music so deeply. Thank you Mario.
OMG!! Mario, I've probably said it before but your playing touches my heart mind and soul like no one else these days. Thank you my friend. ❤ Absolutely BRILLIANT!!🥺🥺
That sweet little smile at the end...heartmelting. So humble after such a supremely glorious performance speaks volumes about the nature of this musical genius. Breathlessly bowing in astonishment and deepest gratitude.
Just listened again, as am playing it myself for a concert tomorrow.. This version is just amazing, its so emotive!! Thanks again for uploading the performance Mario!
If I had to pick one flute performance over others, I'd pick this one, even if I've only seen the video. I've never heard anyone play flute like this, with so many... threads and colors. And I've listened it tens of times. I mean I showed this video to my mother who doesn't really care much about music and she actually sat down and listened the whole thing.
I wonder what makes James Galways 'Flute №1'?.. He'd never would be able to play this piece with as much passion and spontaneity as Mario Caroli. There is no number 1, 2 and 3. There are different personalities with unique playing manners ;)
Unique mario! I`ve listened to you in live this spring in Slovenia flute festival - I am still under impression...all flutist on one side - mario on the other - brilliant and unique!
Of course Alex! Thanks for mentioning it: I have been discussing with Manuela for hours about our "Folias"; Every note I play with my flute flies to her, wherever she is now....
Yes! Sound so magical. Acoustics in his favor... I wonder what would have said Sir James Galway (Flute№1)? I think He is flute №2 after Sir James Galway naturally
Hello Henri, I have the version of the BÄRENREITER edition from germany (BA 3311) and following there, he created some new variations.. Or, I don't know either, there are some more complete editions, of which we "common" flutists have no access ;) I never heard him, but his indeed a great musician !! Really fantastic :)
Hi, many thanks for your comment, This is my own version of Marais'. I transposed it in f min and I have eliminated the double stops. I don't know the Vivaldi's version.
It's weird, i dont recognize everything. Does he creates some variations? Or i am mystaken? Anyway... I won't ever play them like that... It's just amazing the sound he has. The technique and the color of his notes are just fantastic...
Thank you for your very nice comment! Actually, I adapted the whole couplets for flute (32), even though in this concert I performed a choice of couplets. I transposed it in f-min. Thanks for your appreciation!
@@marioargonne11 Oh, thank you so much for explaining! I was wondering why the energy of that section was so sparkly! The modulation makes sense! I probably have everyone on this thread beat for number of times watched (uncountable). Definitely the best of the best of all recordings on UA-cam as far as I am concerned. Also, playing this piece at the moment. Deepest respect and blessings from the Valley of the Sun! 🙏💖🌸
Wondeful fultist. I listened to Rhonda Larson's performance and it sounds totally different from what Mr Caroli is playing? Confused. Are there different versions of Marai's composition? Intended to purchase the sheet music but Caroli's version is totally different from Rhonda Larson's interpretation? Thanks for your help. jimdand
@principalflutist - The piece is one and the same. .. :) Rhonda was simply interpreting in a manner very typical to herself. Also, the recording quality of Rhonda's performance is lacking.
Hi Mario. I'm listening to it again. You are so absolutely brilliant. Big HUGS. ❤🎉

you are welcome Tamara, and thanks for your words! I hope that your concert five years ago (!) went well!
Wow. Those trills around the 7min mark almost sound like a violin, and it almost sounds like he achieves polyphony at a few points. Outstanding!
Thank you very much! I tried to give an impression of polyphony , as the piece was for a string instrument
Love your big beefy low register. What resonance! And you give the music space to breathe. Wonderful!
Thank you!

This is by far the best version I've heard of this, but I have to say... I don't quite recognize some of those variations. Beautiful performance!!
