Me, I'm a soldier, don't let him want to piss on my stripes, or my medals, because in that case, maestro or not, he'll see what it's like to provoke the Great Mute , the Army, if he prefers.
Since he absolutely insists on having valuable men and women massacred for nothing, on one side or the other (police and army), this killing does not bother me at all, and could even be interesting. And this is neither a threat nor insulting remarks, but an ultimatum from a peaceful plenipotentiary.
I had the good fortune to attend a performance of this challenging piece of music some years ago in Brisbane Australia. I recognise the same outstanding band members. As the band concluded they were greeted by a deafening, standing ovation by the sell-out audience. Mr. Nyman looked quite amazed at the reception -maybe thinking how a bunch of people from "Hicksville" could know and appreciate his music with such enthusiasm. A night to remember.
One of the greatest versions I ve ever heard ...This is definitely Nyman's most wonderful work !By far....It's sounds so magical that makes me tremble from excitement ...It's baroque style brings to life past and brighter and greater eras ...It's a magnificent piece of art nothing more nothing less ...💯👌😭💯👌😭💯👌

@@TDOBrandano Yes, I know it, thank you. In fact, Nyman "borrowed" it at his fellow countryman Henry Purcell. Exactly like Rouget de Lisle "borrowed" La Marseillaise (Chant de guerre pour l'Armée du Rhin) at his fellow countryman, XVIII century composer Jean-Baptiste Grisons.
I first heard it while watching "The Draftsman Contract" in the early 80ties on a small, 70ties black&white TV. I do love this song since then. Part of the "Soundtrack of my life"
Michael Nymam's music really moves me. He is an absolute genius and these are brilliant musicians. I had the privilege to watch him and his orchestra live in Lisbon. Unforgettable.
Exactly that. I can't explain why, but I cried and was euphoric at the same time when I heard this piece the first time when I was 18. And I still do sometimes. It's larger than life!
I was in a North Carolina based professional modern dance company for over a decade starting in the 1990s. The Jan Van Dance Group was based out of the University of Greensboro (UNCG). Jan (artistic director) described her style as Merce Cunningham progression. She choreographed a piece called “Five Short Forms” using all Nymam music. In my tenure with the JVDDG I was lucky enough to be cast in this (now repertoire) piece. The final section was set to this. I loved every minute of this experience and the music was the icing. Thank you Michael Nymam. TY for letting me share this experience.👯♀️ #RIPJVD
This could be the soundtrack to my professional life. Run, run, run until you catch the wind and you start to soar. But don't forget to soak up the beauty of friends and family, and count loves victories along the way!
OMG How utterly brilliant is this! I love The Draughtsmans Contract and seeing how hard the whole orchestra has to work to play this is amazing. A great workout for bingo wings for the lovely female violinists! Who don't have them I hasten to add. Thank you for posting. Made my day!
Ho visto decine di volte i film di Peter Greenaway solo ed esclusivamente per ascoltare le colonne sonore di Nyman e Mertens. A distanza di molti anni ho scoperto che anche le immagini e le storie dei film erano e sono degni della musica.
I heard this work on a website: it served as a sound illustration for a nostalgic coach driver: it was the S53 Saviem or the 53-seater Saviem, this legendary vehicle, with lower consumption, truly tireless , and which for nearly forty years has served our cities and our countryside in France!!! Michael Nyman's work reflects the quality of this legendary coach!! The site is called Saviem S45/S48/S53: a story, a know-how.
There is something distinctly British not just in the music but in how it is performed. Old, traditional British. The kind we have lost somewhere along the way. Nostalgia.
I first heard this back in 2012 when I was at my spiritual best. This piece always unites me to that mystical encounter, and connects me to the days I lived cut off from 'the world'.
I agree. The future of music, as Alex Ross states at the closing of his wonderful "The Rest is Noise", will be the merging of both pop and classical esthetics.
The nostalgia of this former machinist allowed me to know the work of Michael Nyman "Chasing Sheep is Best Left to Shepherds" which illustrates well his site SAVIEM S45 / S48 / S53 which dates from July 2009. I want this played at my wedding AND funeral
Funeral definitely, though I prefer the messy youtube version of this with the guy on the base with floppy hair!
If you have them both on the same day, you’ll only have to pay the orchestra once!
