Hearing something played by Berlin is like seeing a painting that uses every color in the world, and you've only ever seen paintings that used black and white. It is eye-opening and life-changing. One can only imagine the joy that a conductor has, in being able to paint with a palette like this.

I think this is one of the most perfect pieces of music ever written, and here it is played exquisitely.
Here, here! It kind of soaks into the marrow, sending little silver flakes of ecstasy shuffling warmly through your whole body. Well - something like that . . .

Mio caro amico, concordo con Te. Quando ascolto questa musica ho la pelle d'oca per l'emozione. Sempre. E' delicato all'inizio, suadente nel proporsi all'ascolto, geometrico nel suo sviluppo quando tutta l'orchestra - gradualmente - si aggiunge e si accoda al solista. Giunta a pieno organico è capace di esprimere un'onda sonora in grado di sommergere chi ascolta. Nel mentre non esiste più nulla nello spazio se non l'armonia che prorompe al suo climax in un tema atteso ma struggente nel suo balenare. Questo per lunghi istanti. Poi come la marea che si ritira, l'orchestra progressivamente modula il suo intervento e la bellezza che si è mostrata si richiude con evidente eleganza fino a quando il flauto e il pizzicato degli archi riconsegnano la realtà al silenzio. I’m learning this piece, and it’s utterly sublime. I can imagine entering Heaven, walking in the lush pastures on a beautiful sunny day, breathing in the fresh air, and hearing the ethereal sound of angels fluttering their wings and singing this melody, accompanied by the most beautiful magnificent gold harp. I think it takes an immortal being to compose something as heavenly as this.

this very morning, on monday morning of summer vacation, my child on my lap half asleep, sunlight coming in through the curtains and we listen to this together as i slowly cradle her. she looks up at me with sleepy eyes, i kiss her, what a wonderful life i am living.
Oh God I imagine this too, but instead as a young man in the car driving to a grand city. Looking around at the cloudless moonlit 4am sky in an area where no building is on sight. Just a lone car on a lone road in Florida.
Bizet really knocked this one out of the ballpark. When I want to produce tears I only need to listen to this and Elgar's Nimrod from the Enigma Variations. The counterpoint is perfect. The introduction of each instrument one at a time (except harp and flute) to a marvelous crescendo is heartwarming. Their removal one at a time is perfect and so reminiscent of Haydn's 45th Symphony. I could listen to this piece for hours.

I thank Maestro Dudamel for setting this music to such a gorgeous tempo. He gave much trust to this piece and to the orchestra. And they totally met his expectations!
This music is so exquisite that I want to savor each note, each moment of it.
Mr. Dudamel seems like a very thoughtful, kind-hearted person. To me, the expressions on his face are another aspect of beauty of this performance. How sincere he looks. Totally immersed in the music.

I worked on this excerpt when I was younger and listened to many, many recordings of it. This is easily my favorite. Pahud’s sound is glorious and he effortlessly floats above the orchestra. His tone is warm and bright at the same time and he blends beautifully once the clarinet takes the melody. It’s perfect. Simply perfect.
I listened to this piece when I was 4 but never quite know where it came from. It's so beautiful and it just stays in my mind so I recognised it instantly when I hear it. Thank you Berlin phil. for helping me preserve this memory
Best interpretation I've heard. I'm going to be performing this with my orchestra soon so I wanted to have something to listen to. This was definitely awesome.

Wow. Incredible. I just performed this for an intermediate level flute exam and I wish I could have been even half as amazing as Pahud! Listening to him hit that double piano on the last note... breathtaking. I'm in awe.

I only came to find an Entr'acte online after it humming in my head all morning, but got Dudamel, Pahud, et al. in a gorgeous venue, and some beautiful filming. It doesn't get any better than this. I'm a pile of jello now. Wish me luck getting back to housework.

I played flute in my h.s. district orchestra, and duet-ed with a harpist on this when I was 16 and in love with the boy I should have married.56 years ago . . Our Christmas concert was in a gymnasium, and birds in the rafters chirped along. I didn't hear them at the time. My copy on vinyl was stolen in a burglary in Venice Ca in. , 72? What exquisite noise this is! I am tripping the light fantastic down memory lane. Thank you. . .

Both James Galway and Emmanuel Pahud are incredibly talented musicians who have contributed much of their talents and abilities to the music world. We should respect them not for who is better, but for their mastery of the musical language that preserves the classics, as we see here. Both musicians have unique styles. Both have masterful performances behind them, and yet to try and distinguish one from the other would disrespect their loyalties to the music all have come to love and appreciate.

I played this for my grade 9 music exam. To this day I still dont understand why my teacher chose this for a grade 9 class! Might I say, as beautifully as she did teach me to play it, she was still a nut.
