2024 had the chance to be the best Atlus year ever but Persona 3 Reload messed it up for me. Sets a precedent for awful Atlus remakes and now everyone's asking for a phoned-in Persona 4 remake as well. Just a bad situation all around
Its not the game awards fault it's atlus they would rather shill P3-5 for the millionth time than to move on and talk about P6. And the way they treating SMT V I wouldn't expect a new SMT game either.
2024 has been the most disappointing year of Atlus ever for me because I had expectations this year. I still don’t think my expectations were unrealistic though. I expected a remake of persona 3 to dramatically improve Tartarus which did not happen. And I expected metaphor to have a competent narrative, which also did not happen. I wasn’t expecting p5 level quality from either of these games, but I was expecting they would at least meet the level of quality games they were making two decades ago. However this did not happen. At least I did enjoy SMT this year. Hopefully p6 doesn’t disappoint
i personally hated reload and everything it represented as a fan of fes. dont feel like copypasting my entire rant but the artstyle is a massive downgrade, the gameplay mechanics that gave p3 its unique identity have been supplanted with ones lacking any depth, and they had GALL to call it a faithful remake when at the end of the day it made every sin p4 made, but to a game that heavily relies on the mechanics for its narrative delivery and pacing inwould have genuinely preferred a REAL remake that didnt try to replace the originals, but instead stood alongside them as a separate unique way to experience the game. and in that respect, metaphor saved the day much to my surprise
Let's not pretend that the original mechanics were anything noteworthy. It was just AI party members (a mechanic that has been done 20 years before it) and arbitrary gameplay limiters on top of meaningful gameplay limiters (Fatigue vs SP). Those elements were removed because, imo, they only ruined the pacing of the game in a dungeon that frankly overstayed its welcome, and that sensation is made worse by the fact that the enemy design variety is very lacking. I don't know why people hold P3 in such high regard because outside of its ending, the vast majority of the game was pretty forgettable. What you call "unique identity", I call "problems".
The fatigue system is more like a punishment than anything else also climbing that barebone Tartarus with the AI party members is so frustrating until the protag can carry the battles. Reload is a excellent remake but not having Femc (until the community puts her in the game) makes the games feel incomplete.
@@No-RE-q1w the issue with using sp to gate dungeon time is that its a restorable resource using items. additionally theres an entire class of personas that use physical attacks, trading health for skills (health being a much less rare resource). fatigue was extremely heavy handed but acting like it served zero useful purpose and that later games did it better its probably false when you realise the meta strategy in 4 and 5 is to entirely break the pacing by doing the dungeon asap the one more system was built around the idea that the player would only be in direct control of themselves, and resulted in much more dynamic gameplay with all elements meshing well. i understand why alot of people dont like tactics, and since one more still holds up as a fun combat system without tactics im not opposed to the option. the real issue is the fact that atlus wont just commit to abandoning the idea they clearly no longer care for. from p4 onwards, tactics commands have been limited to only the initial 4, and as new mechanics are added to the combat sandbox, the ai is never updated to take advantage (baton pass/shift, showtime/theurgy, etc) i can understand why the way persona 3 handles its game design can be unappealing to some, what really annoyed me about reload was its self proclaimed faithfulness that is demonstrably false once you realise that all of the mechanics fundamental to this games unique design goals have been stripped away in favour of streamlined options that limit player freedom and expression
I loved replaying Persona 3. It brought back memories of playing P3P on my PSP Go in between college classes. As for the DLC… I’ll buy “The Answer” when it’s on sale… 🥱 I have no rush to play it.

Hopefully p6 doesn’t disappoint
i personally hated reload and everything it represented as a fan of fes. dont feel like copypasting my entire rant but the artstyle is a massive downgrade, the gameplay mechanics that gave p3 its unique identity have been supplanted with ones lacking any depth, and they had GALL to call it a faithful remake when at the end of the day it made every sin p4 made, but to a game that heavily relies on the mechanics for its narrative delivery and pacing
inwould have genuinely preferred a REAL remake that didnt try to replace the originals, but instead stood alongside them as a separate unique way to experience the game. and in that respect, metaphor saved the day much to my surprise
@@No-RE-q1w the issue with using sp to gate dungeon time is that its a restorable resource using items. additionally theres an entire class of personas that use physical attacks, trading health for skills (health being a much less rare resource). fatigue was extremely heavy handed but acting like it served zero useful purpose and that later games did it better its probably false when you realise the meta strategy in 4 and 5 is to entirely break the pacing by doing the dungeon asap
the one more system was built around the idea that the player would only be in direct control of themselves, and resulted in much more dynamic gameplay with all elements meshing well. i understand why alot of people dont like tactics, and since one more still holds up as a fun combat system without tactics im not opposed to the option. the real issue is the fact that atlus wont just commit to abandoning the idea they clearly no longer care for. from p4 onwards, tactics commands have been limited to only the initial 4, and as new mechanics are added to the combat sandbox, the ai is never updated to take advantage (baton pass/shift, showtime/theurgy, etc)
i can understand why the way persona 3 handles its game design can be unappealing to some, what really annoyed me about reload was its self proclaimed faithfulness that is demonstrably false once you realise that all of the mechanics fundamental to this games unique design goals have been stripped away in favour of streamlined options that limit player freedom and expression
p3 fans when it comes to nostalgia
@@wasopdenyer i played fes for the first time in 2022 pookie
Can't really say anything atlus relayed excited me this year. In fact tbh atluus has been an extreme disappointment and frankly an insult as a fan.
Where's the /s?
I loved replaying Persona 3. It brought back memories of playing P3P on my PSP Go in between college classes. As for the DLC… I’ll buy “The Answer” when it’s on sale… 🥱 I have no rush to play it.
