You might have not made it to the Olympics but you're still legendary Dan. I really respect you for not juicing during your career. That's how you recognize true character - no shortcuts.
DJ, your advice is always gold. I utilize your wisdom with clients from 50-82 years old. They all flourish and get better and better weekly. You are a gem, MVP & Hall of Famer in all things common sense.
An aside: the act of writing down your givens, what you need to find, and a simple drawing of the situation doesn't necessarily solve the problem for you but it gets you about 40% of the way there. Sometimes more. It organizes your thoughts and information in a very helpful way.
Thanks for the response, Dan. I’ve played around with 3x8, 5x5, 5x3 and 3x5 quite often in my training and programming for my clients but I’m also incorporating 2-3-5 as I saw you implemented this in your programming through DJU and I thought it was a pretty cool way to hit big numbers but get that nice burn too! The movements I follow are pretty typical and generic depending on the levels of my clients as I understand while I love to clean, snatch and swing, they may not share my love of those movements. Some staples would include deadlifting of some sort, TRX rows, goblet squats and half kneeling presses for just about every one of my clients in some capacity and I’ve seen very positive results in doing so - as you will most certainly tell, this is all from your work and advice 😂 so thank you for helping me and my clients out, I’ve really found great benefit in such a simple system
As someone who has just been doing some park bench stuff as of late I am going to give that 3x8, 5x5, 5x3, 3x5 program a go, eight weeks worth of programming that is "pretty good".
Dan, you are in Skyline’s Hall of Fame. Don’t allow the limitations of pathological money seeking Sophists to impact your mood. You are a Socratic, and Sophists never really liked Socratics. They killed Socrates, so at least they haven’t offed you yet. I appreciate you just the way you are and recognition from empty suits, or the lack thereof, doesn’t change reality. Keep doing what you do to help others from the kindness of your heart. ^^^ That award is far more valuable than everything else out together. From one Socratic to another. When Big Brother starts kissing your behind, a soul check is in order because they only do that for current or expected sycophants.
I've been reading your articles for years and as always I love your work. A question: what would be good ways to assess with little equipment one's progress in fitness? I'm looking for good reliable ways to do that regarding cardio (maybe the 3min step test) and strength in general. Thanks for everything.
i have a very special question (i think): what double-kettlebell-programm would you suggest for a very fit 50yr old who works out more than twice a day?
Enjoyed your discussion on guys you used to compete against. Did you ever compete against Al Feuerbach? Reason I ask, back in the day, I threw against his brother Steve. Steve got the better of me the one time we competed (as did a few others, FWIW)
But Dan, where to I submit my questions? Where do I find this easy strength omnibook? What do you think about my heavy get ups, and how can I stop banging my forearms with kettlebell cleans? P.S. heavy lunges and one arm swings are better than 3x8 or 5x5! P.S.S. Love your podcast, only annoying you because I love you. Going to start my 4th round of ES after finishing the new book. Interested to see how that will tailor my approach to it.
It keeps things simple, cuts costs and reduced decision fatigue. It’s part of his system. If you go to a regular mon-fri job you could wear the same color pants/shirt everyday or you could have three pants and five shirts that you rotate through the week. Make sure all shirts and pants make sense with each other. For example dark blue jeans and some black pants or chinos.
My favorite podcast for the last few months!

What a lovely episode. I especially enjoyed the theologic/philosophic question!

Fascinating insight into the fitness industry..

This is a good one! Appreciate the philosophy.
I just found a Goldmine

That's a cool license plate on the shelf.

Liked and commented for the algorithm!

Any advice for someone doing hard manual labour for their job? I get run down doing tree work. How many times per week easy strength might be good?

I competed against his brother when he threw for SJSU. I knew Al, but he was a shot putter...
@@DanJohnStrengthCoach - I knew his primary fame was from shotput; did not know if he also maybe did other field events "back in the day".
I think Al threw over 180 feet but I honestly don’t remember

Have you ever met any of the arm wrestlers in Utah? Lik john brzenk or Bob brown?
For the Algo ❤

Any thoughts on starting at 8 sets of 3 and over ~8-16 workouts with the same weight on the bar work to get to 3 sets of 8?
Saint Roch is also pictured with a dog

Always good to hear from you.
In the 3 x 8 training, isn't it correct to respect 2 minutes between sets ?
1 minute in this routine
We don't deserve dogs.
I just noticed he always wears the same t shirt.
It reduces productivity fatigue.
