    Special addition to video...
    1:06, that's the Ken Miles built, NASCAR aluminum 390 engine powered, one off roadster.
    Only time I have seen period film of it in motion.

    1:38 Center My old Boss, Bob Bondurant. Next to Bob is Peter Perfect. (Was that Gurney back in the right corner sleeping?)
    Some time around 1995 A friend of Bob's brought out one of the original cars which he had owned for 18 years. He had never driven it and wanted to take a few laps. Bob had me stay with him and keep the wheels on. Bob drove it first with me as "shotgun", the owner drove it, then I got the last three laps before putting it on the trailer. The little V8 was really peaky and needed kept wound up. It was running used 18 year old cotton Bias ply Goodyear stockcar slicks.... The owner and I both drove it carefully, but Bob was typical Bob and had it sideways most of the time. I really miss my brief 8 years with Bob. He was a hoot!

    I just pulled my Daytona Coupe #5 die cast replica out of storage, years back I got Gurney and Bondurant to autograph the hood. I’m in my mid 70’s and started thinking I better enjoy this while I can, kind of wish I had family to leave it to. I can just imagine someone buying this at my death sale and giving it to their kid to play in the dirt. Oh well, such is life (death).

      @jerelreeves - Wow! If I were you, I would sell it to someone who wouldn't play with it on the floor, but rather appreciate what it stands for, and appreciate even more the signatures! Since both great drivers have passed into history, it may surprise you how much it may be worth today! I don't think $1,000 -1,500 would be unrealistic at all - maybe more for the right collector. You could auction it off on eBay. Good luck!

    289 wasn’t a small displacement compared to the European cars they were racing against.

      That's right, at 4.7 liter it was larger displacement than Ferrari's V12. From an American perspective, it was a small V8, standard in the larger Fords of the time. From a European one, it was a big American V8! Then there's the Master, the 7 liter 427 Ford side oiler, detuned from over 500 hp.

    These are awesome cars and it's ashamed how Ford never backed this car a little more. It sounds like they would have won more championships.

      Ford stopped backing it because they were spending tons of money on the promising GT 40, and the Daytona had already made its mark in GT racing history. Actually, I read that the Daytona was faster than the GT 40 in 1964, as the GT 40 still needed more development before it could exceed 200 mph. Bob Bondurant hit 197 on the Mulsanne with is Daytona Coupe. Probably the fastest coupe of any kind with a small 4.7 liter carbureted V8!

    I have a question on why Enzo Ferrari had say into shut the race down so the Daytona's could not race for the championship. Was he jealous of what Ford was doing.

      @randykirchhevel7311 - Enzo saw that he was going to lose the Championship to the Daytona, so found a way to get the race canceled, thus guaranteeing Ferrari the title. To say he was a very poor sport is a gross understatement!

    And yet Shelby wanted to drop them all in the ocean instead of paying $5000 to ship them back to California? Unbelievable! Now all worth about $7 million a piece!

      @Jimmy Twotimes - Shelby offered to anyone in his shop the first one built for $800, after it came back from Bonneville setting multiple speed records. The car was covered with salt, had a broken headlight and generally looked terrible. The guys in his shop just laughed at his offer! They had no idea of what it would become in the future.🤠
