- A celebration of the last HST to leave Old Oak Common before the depot's closure. This film follows power cars 43093 ‘Old Oak Common’ and 43185 ‘Great Western’ on their final visit to Brunel’s iconic London depot, where it is cleaned and serviced. This is dedicated to all the men and women who have worked at the depot on rains that have served the western region since 1906 to its final day on the 8th of December 2018.

The greatest train depot on Earth, such a great privilege to have worked there; right up until it's closure.
Definitely a magical place, in all its guises. I managed to take a look around as a young teen in the early 90s by accessing the depot by the canal. Asking an employee if I could take a look around ‘Yep, as long as you don’t say I said yes’ 😂😂

It was a strange day.
The number of times that I've done a Preparation of one of these old ladies at OOC at 0430 and always perfectly turned out by my wonderful former colleagues. Thanks guys and good luck. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

I'm glad that OOC has been modelled in TSW2, if they didn't do that, OOC would be forgotten. It's a shame that HS2 has to take it from us.

your wrong. they were alot more than half decent, alot more
@@legend_darkstar they had their engine changed to be more efficient. 40% more efficient, they could easily have been modified further but the trouble with the rail companies and the government is they dont plan anything long term, its always about the short term, tide it over for 10 years at a time, maybe 20, they never plan for something that could go on indefinately with modifications and be much much cheaper on the public purse as well as keeping alot of people in the uk in business and working. the HST in truth didnt look a day over 10 years old when it was retired, it always looked the part, never looked ugly or outdated, it was and still is a bloody fantastic train, the replacement doesnt hold a candle to the HST, believe me, I been on it, aweful thing.
hell look at the class 91, got a soft spot for the 91 too but it would have been better and cheaper to modify the class 43 to be electric, if we werent constantly chasing new rail stock that we really dont need we could have electrified so many more routes and actually caught up and ended the reign of the diesel engines in uk rail stock and kept the stock that everyone knows and loves

I can understand that, it was a sad day.
its not fair, how can we be saying goodbye to one of the best trains on the uk rail network, not one of the best for 1970 or 1980 or even 1990, but one of the best ones for 2018. why is it we had to say goodbye to the HST fleet but still have to suffer those god aweful 150s 153s 158s 159s sprinters, super sprinters, all such like that and then have to pretend that the 800 even holds a candle to the 43. its just not fair. I wish that I could go back to the late 90s and enjoy the train all over again because Im just not ready to see it go, I had hoped that the castle class 43s would be held onto for many years as a bloody good replacement for those god aweful ones but now even that is being taken away

It’s still working hard in the West Country on shortened castle sets on services between Cardiff and Penzance.

@Keiran Counsell A very very small number might continue into 2024 from what I've heard
@@Danse_Macabre_125 I have messaged scotrail, they said they have them on lease until 2030, however the carriages are said to be until 2025. It sounds to me like there are options to keep the train but it involves expensive updates to them. I will feature it all in the video im working on, GWR and cross country are getting rid of them entirely, the lease companies are in talks about what to do with them but cannot comment but they are worried and its likely another batch will be scrapped should scotrail not want more very soon
