2021 Aprilia RSV4 And RSV4 Factory Review - First Ride
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 лют 2025
- Laguna Seca’s most prominent feature is the world-famous Corkscrew - the undulating left-right flick that you enter blind, which then proceeds to drop you three stories as you plunge into Rainey Curve. It’s a thrilling piece of asphalt every motorsport enthusiast should experience someday. But one of the more underappreciated sections of the track, especially for motorcyclists, is the hill leading up to the Corkscrew. Tackling it aboard the updated 2021 Aprilia RSV4 really makes you feel alive.
After nailing the left-hand dip in Turn 6, momentum carries you out towards the curbing. With eyes now pointed up the hill, some heavy-handed persuasion from the throttle hand starts the drive up. With a bigger engine than before, the 1099cc V4 is howling its sweet song while painting squiggly lines on the ground with the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP rear tire. That short section is a thrill ride on most bikes, but the audible - and visceral - experience of railing the new RSV4 through there reminded me how good the RSV4 is, and how good it’s always been.

I love the new look of that new RSV4, some people hate the winglets but I think it's beautiful it really fits the design
I 100% agree with you! Fantastic looking machine.
Agreed, probably the most natural looking wings ATM.
But is it little bit over kill with over 200 horsepower
@@edsuh5546 it's pretty common for 1000cc+ Sportbikes to have 200hp now a days
I bought one of these today still in the box, I couldn't be more excited.
Really nice thorough review. Totally agree about the suspension too, much prefer analogue to electronic, especially with that big price difference, with which you could put any wheels you want on the standard version & still have change.
Thank you! Great review. I just bought the Tuono version. Never been happier.
I must say this is one of the best review I've ever seen!
Great rev - as always!
Great review like always! I wanna get one so bad.
great review! now lets hope the 2022 tuono factory gets the bigger engine
You're the best tester on youtube sir....as always, honest review
Troy great vid and great shots over the corkscrew. On the suspension issues for the Factory, if you set the bike into the "manual" modes the electronics converts to "fixed" values and they do not change lap on lap (replicating non electronic operation). If you leave it on any of the 3 auto settings you will get the variances you highlighted. Ohlins will give a much broader range of adjustment than Sachs without having to drop the forks through the yolks or change oil for the bigger rider. That is what you pay for. For track use on the Factory, set the Ohlins to manual, adjust to fit and you will get the best out of it. Is it worth $6k dollars more? Depends on how much a couple of tenths a second here or there means to the rider. Great review and super camera shots. Enjoyed a lot.
exactly
Eh, the Sachs on my 2018 RSV4RR works extremely well. I personally couldn’t stomach paying $7k more for the Factory just to get the electronic suspension when the base suspension works so well…
@MegaTechpc don't forget about the forged rims and that carbon fiber baby!
My friends 2022 aprilia RSV4 is always leaking oil from the engine case. He brought it to the dealership and had his bike for 4 months. He is so annoyed because the oil is leaking again. Smh
As always unbiased good review Tray!
Most beautiful super sport bike on the market..
I thought rsv4 is the best sounding bike ever and not much for looking.
But now they have both!
100%
I bought the 2010 RSV4R. 150 whp I believe. 180 crank. Had quite a bit of lag before taking off. Only complaint, mine was a lemon. Second day the pressure relief valve did not work, when the bike heated up the tank expanded and blew fuel out the airbox and down the headers, faulty injector I was later told. The bike nearly caught fire with all the fuel on the headers, after three months waiting for parts and only owning the bike for a single day. Dealer support was horrible, refused to replace the bike I wrote off the brand. They look great but I don’t know if I could own one again after all that money for so much headache.
Thanks for the informative video. I’m in the market for a new track bike and this RSV4 non factory is the perfect fit for me. Thanks!
Most people that track RSV4 seriously will start with the base model to save the cash and swap the suspension or at least springs and oil to suit. Electronic suspension is more of a road hero feature. It's there to shift unit's by being "bleeding edge" but it's not very useful on track like you said. Great review 👍
I love my 2015 RSV4 but this is making me want to sell and get a new one.
I just love everything about Aprilia, I have a 2014 tuono v4 road bike, I wish I could afford a rsv4 track bike, sadly had to make do with a kawasaki zx10r and Suzuki sv650s as my track day bikes, the Suzuki £1500 being a crash damage repair job, the kawasaki zx10r 2014 cost £7,500,I think they are great in their own way, but my head and heart are with Aprilia. I could have bought a older one with much higher mileage than the kawasaki. I suppose l should be grateful especially with the kawasaki,it's still a fine bike.
I got to ride a 2017 and it was amazing I can’t wait to get a chance to ride the new one
Mv agusta superveloce model -21 would be nice to see your review.
Picking mine up Tomm
Lucky you, Factory?
@@ricardoedwardo5799 yes and TBH it’s the best motorcycle I’ve driven so far
Picking my factory up today!!!!
@Star Sea the 2021 doesnt come with akra its a totally new exhaust system. Pretty quite until you open it up past 5k rpm, it sounds amaazing!
Still have it?
thank you . for the great review .. i m planning on buying a rsv4 factory but was having second thoughts... now i am fixed to RSV4 ... nd not the FACTORY .
I like more the Factory colours and I wish the base version would also have that option.
can't imagine 217 HP on a short wheelbase bike. I remember back in the '90s when 150 HP was hot sh*t.
Its actually pretty friendly, before buying last year i tried a 2020 r1m, ducati, v4 and zx10r. I ended up getting the rsv4 1100, its the most powerful bike on the line but you have to ride it because numbers dont tell the entire story, its power delivery is so smooth yet agressive, the best way to explain it is: predictable yet fun. Id say the r1m with the crossplane crank was the best for cruising tho.
new viewer here...thanks for the introduction and expalanation mr troy. i noticed your fam name is siahaan...greetings from indonesia
Nice first impressions' video. The article is well written and well worth a read.
Is it any bigger than the last gen..or still as small as a 400....🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Nice bike, nice review
Sidenote, those leathers are cool AF Troy.
this is what im waiting for!
so the standard and factory version have the same brakes? only differences are suspension and forged wheels?
take forged wheels and everything is fine. The god think main things like Brakes Electronic are the same as on the Factory, not All competitors do that
The factory has brembo stylema as far as I understand
Yes only differences are wheels and suspension
Solid improvements to an already outstanding motorcycle. I can't image someone actually being able to sit on the pillion with those winglets though.
That is too much of a price hike for upspec wheels and suspension
Contrary to what this review says, the OEM Sachs shock isn't very good. The forks are okay, but realistically, you're probably putting a NIX 30 kit into them for track use - basically, you're going to be spending $1,500 for a shock at very least. The R model cast wheels are pretty light though... nothing like the OZ copies on the 2009/2010 RSV4-R and Gen 2 RSVR - those things were stupidly heavy and had to be swapped for serious track use.
Having had the Sachs suspension on a 2017 RR I can say this bike deserves a Bitubo or Ohlins professional setup. Standard just does not cut it on track. For the street it’s more than fine though.
Thank you Troy for your insightful and sought-after videos (and written pieces). I was wondering what would be your pick for track usage between the new RS4 (factory or standard) vs the new Honda CBR rr r sp? (money aside and taken into account the reliability..)
Thanks, Troy
Re reliability, the RSV4s only Achilles heel is the valve springs. Aprilia updated the engine while using the same SKU for valve springs. The Fireblade will need to be tuned to reach anything near full potential on track.
Great shots! Good thing you didn't forget your pinlock at home
Any idea how much it weighs? I remember the RSV4 being on the heavier side compared to the other liter bikes.
209Kg with all fluids. It is a bit heavier than the competition but the mass distribution and chassis totally make up for it. Owned and tracked a 2017 model for 3 years. The only bike I’ve cried over when I had to sell it. Owned at least a dozen.
@@adriandaniel83 that comes out to about 460lbs...yaaowww that’s “heavy”. I still want one tho lol
Hope to see a review of the new zx10r soon.
Can you turn the electronic suspension off and use it like a conventional suspension?
Yes.
You can have your own setting and set it up how you want.
Yes you can, but on the road it's better to stay open. It's work so good!
wow. top 5
The lower foot pegs made it feel more comfortable
I am a huge fan of Aprilia and loved my 2013 RSV4. I have been waiting for this to come out and my only grip is the price. I want the Factory, but at 25K it's hard to justify the price when the BMW S100RR can be had for 22K.
Yeah but not the M version of BMW... I guess that would be the competition of the RSV4 Factory.
Have a friend who picked up the new 2021 Factory today. His outgoing bike was the M sport (carbon wheel) version of the S1000RR. His immediate response is that the semi-active suspension is superior on the Aprilia. I rode the bike briefly and was impressed with it. It's like my kitted-out 2011 but better everywhere - better suspension (mine had a TTXGP and full cartridges), better brakes, transmission is better, throttle response is better, riding position is better (felt roomier but with higher pegs). Stock mirrors were pretty good. Dash is great - I think I like it a bit more than the TFT on my Streetfighter V4 just due to colors/layout. Overall, it's a nice machine.
Hey guys, thanks for the review, it’s one of the few currently available on the internet. How good are the electronics compared to the competition? On track I found the 2017 version of the TC much too intrusive and on/off. Compared to Yamaha or BMW it was lagging behind. How about now (2021)?
Where did you get your race suit?
Nice review. Greeting from Indonesia
Alright Meow, that was a good review.
are there any regulation about indicator in us ? eu and asia model have a indicator at the end of drl. rs660 too
Crazzy !! You and Adam waheed would be an awesome team !
Waiting for u to lay your hands on the 2021 kawasaki zx10r and 10rr
Do the stock mirrors fold?
Halo abang Troy Siahaan. Salam hangat dari Indonesia 😊
Love them
Does it overheat in traffic so just say sitting at a stoplight?
RSV4 owner here. Yes, it does. A lot.
@@filipbunalti okay, thank you. My brother just traded in his super duke on a 2021 rsv factory and he had to turn it off at the light because it was approaching the red at 235 degrees.
I wouldn’t say it overheats but the engine hates not moving
@@mudddge It's very hard to believe that this bike has an inferior cooling system. 26k and should be perfect. It's marketed and sold to the public for public road use. Interesting.
@@n.elliott9122 it's the nature of this v4. The track is its home
Spectacular 🥰
🔥
Wish they had a better dealer network in the U.S. even around DMV they are rare.
I agree. That is the main reason I don't own one. 150 miles to the closest dealer for me. Ouch!!
Best exhaust sound for me is Aprilia's.. sounds like video game
The Aprilia spec for "weight with 90% fuel" throws me off a little. How does this compare apples-to-apples with the previous RSV4 in terms of weight?
I think it’s 6 lbs heavier due to the Euro 5 standards
Amazing bike, amazing track. Such a shame it's not part of MotoGP anymore.
BarryEssex Aprilia runs the MotoGP with Espargaro' and Savadori (Racing team Gresini/Aprilia Racing).
@@lazios Sorry, I meant Laguna Seca.
@@Terraceview You are right, it's a shame.
For some reason I think the bike looks less aggressive than the previous version. It’s still a great looking bike don’t get me wrong but I prefer the older model.
i agree with you! The front looks more "soft" and less aggressive than the previous generation.
Cool cool but why the music??
This or M1000RR?
This. I considered both and bought the Aprilia. Until you sit on both you can`t tell why. Worlds of difference!
There’s just a difference in quality between the aprilia and BMW, and BMW is known to be better quality than a lot of brands...
Nothing feels like an aprilia...they are simply the best.
@@Critastic bmw better quality? Idk the s100rr feels extremely cheap to me compared to any other manufacturers Superbike except maybe the gsxr
@@Critastic BMW quality on the new S1000RR isn't that great. Lots of problems with the parts they use such as the carbon wheels cracking, steering damper leaking, cold start problems, etc... etc... that being said I haven't had much experience with an Aprilia so I can't confirm if they are of poor quality or not. The only BMW I know that is bullet proof is their GS models. Those things are built to last.
@@Navieri I meant the aprilia, they feel better than the BMW
Siahaan are indonesian name..is it?
So they are genuinely 1100cc but are actually 1099cc. Close enough I guess.
All bikes do that.
it always tickles me when a manufacturer strokes a motor for more displacement instead of the usual more bore. I love Aprilia for that. still not a fan of the tail section though
Aprilia OR Ducati ?? I'm leaning Aprilia Factory ...Lol
Depends on what you wanna do. If you're gonna heavily modify it and turn it into a proper race bike, you'd probably be better off with the v4r. Otherwise, aprilia.
@@amac_ I'm not modifying anything except exhaust and just street drive for pleasure...Love the way the Aprilia drives and the cost compared to Ducati ! My buddy drives a Super Sport Ducati and has had issues....Ducati are a finicky bikes ..Lol
Price differential appears excessive.
Abg ini marga nya Siahaan ternyata 👍👍
whys the video so stuttery?
I want to hear it with an aftermarket can.
The Factory is $26k, NOT $25K! That's $7k more for aluminum wheels and suspension - a bit steep in my book.
Am an Aprillia die hard fan
but never owned one.
Hey; Thank you !
🤣🤣😂😂😂
At $26k, that's H2 territory! These bikes are getting too expensive.
Good luck with H2 on a racetrack!
7K for the wheels and suspension upgrade! That's excessive price gouging...
I wouldnt say no more, But probably not yet :D
sorry for what?! lol thanks for the great video
With a 1100 cc they can't be used for the liter bike competition... Wird choice.
Am I first?! No way
those paint schemes make the look of its frame kinda ugly. 11 year old frame that is...
True. And yet the best frame out there...
Colours are a bit shit on them
Not one bike fell down, yet you had 4 inches of unused rubber per side in the rear lol.
18 ford owner downvotes.............
Sweet bike. All you need now is a hot metal wire to shave off that integrated snow shovel.
10 years has passed since I had my last bike, and I just feel sad to see how much electronics bullshit are just crammed into these bikes these days.
What happened to just crank the engine, kick it into gear and go...
Keep It Simple Stupid
Wings are lame
Electronic suspension, why, why do they keep pushing this trash. Name one legitimate racer which uses it? Buy the RSV1100 send suspension out to get track prepped for you for 3k ams put on some slicks and plastics . Forged rims if you must
Tooo much talk
Your beard and the new look doesn't suit you.
Stay plain.
That is one ugly looking exhaust,!!
Much better than the last one
