  • Keeping sawdust out of the basement is always a good thing. It’s not always possible with as much rain as we’ve had this year. The weather is warming up so I decided to dry the area in.

    Getting all fancy with 3 camera views!
    I have a under the deck utility room. It needs ventilation and more lighting. If I could keep heat in there, I would move my seed starting to there, but I'm sure I'd have even more pest issues.

      Leisurely Logan glad you liked it. Tricky to edit. Didn’t get it exactly right but close in most places.

    Good work. I do like the L bracket idea. Can I add one constructive comment. I would have run the 2x4s perpendicular to the way you did it (aka: parlins). Then they could be spaced about 2 foot apart. Getting the slope can be achieved by putting spacer blocks above the parlins and securing directly to the underside of the joists. The spacer blocks can become progressively thicker for each parlin. This would reduce the amount of material and amount of work.

      I considered doing it that way but in the end I was concerned about debris collecting on purlins. Probably not a big concern because the deck above has pretty tight decking boards. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it.

    Clever L brackets. I'll use that when I do mine since I'll be alone too. Thanks!

    Wasp nests was one of my first thoughts…then you mentioned it as one of your concerns.

      I know but so far no problems with them. Oddly enough our cat loves to sleep up there. Thanks for watching

    I store my motorcycle under my deck and this is exactly what I had in mind. All those plastic products made in China seem cheap, is that why you made your own as well?

    • @LSatch
      @LSatch  4 місяці тому

      Yes, exactly, no plastic. It’s still just like new. Thanks for watching

    I'm pondering a similar setup. Did you consider using poly corrugated sheets instead of metal?

    • @LSatch
      @LSatch  Рік тому

      I don’t see why not. Being under the deck the sun wouldn’t deteriorate them. Thanks for watching

    Any concerns with dry rot under the deck, trapping moisture?

    • @LSatch
      @LSatch  2 роки тому +2

      I don’t think so. The deck boards above have space between them. That’s also why I ran the 2x4’s the way I did, running down hill like the metal roofing.

    I've never seen the boards run the same direaction as the paneling. Hmmm? Interesting.

      We have a lot of pine trees. The needles can go between the deck boards, I didn’t want them to collect on the cross boards. That’s why they run the same direction. Have had no problems so far. Hope this helps explain why.

      Not yet. It’s a favorite place for our cat. She loves sleeping up there.
