The Metaverse reminds me of the children's story "The Emperor's New Clothes".
As much as I personally don't like the idea of paying for clothes I cannot really wear and that also obviously look fake, I do think that it is a more sustainable alternative for fast fashion for people who buy it to create content. Because so many of these social media "influencers" feel the pressure to not repeat clothes in their posts. By using digital fashion, they won't be buying plastic clothing that they wear once and then throw away. But obviously, I also do think that sustainable fashion is the way to go. One should invest in good quality clothing made with natural materials that is also functional and lasts for years.
I don't like the idea of these objects being sold as NFTs, but I do like the recognition that avatar/character appearance in online spaces is as valid as fashion.
@@lemonsavery I personally don't even get the whole NFT craze to be honest. I feel like a better way for digital fashion to exist would be similar to Snapchat filters, or maybe they could be available on paid apps or like some basic pieces on the free version of the app and then to access the more complex designs, one could buy the premium version of the app. I even find it a bit hard to believe that it took so much time for digital fashion to become a thing because we have quite realistic face filters now. And I remember when I was in primary school some 10-12 years ago, I had some Barbie stickers and in that set of stickers, there were some dresses without the Barbie, so you could just stick those on the Barbie sticker and change her outfit. The first time I learnt of digital fashion, it reminded me of that. I also don't know if the plastic like texture of most digital fashion I have come across is intentional or if they're still not advance enough in terms of technology to be able to make more realistic looking "materials".
@@indusinghtanwar2711 Right. Digital fashion has also existed in multiplayer video games for a long time now, like the Fortnite skins she talks about in the video. The only reason for digital items to be NFTs, instead of normal digital items in games like Fortnite, is so that the items can be traded between people without a centralized trading service. Many games have in-game trading of items between players, so NFT technology only serves to make such trading decentralized.

This concept of creating such a marketplace for the gaming generation is interesting while also sad. Profiting from the vanity of social media users who have been conditioned by their equally empty "lives" on gaming platforms. Imagine paying $120 real dollars for imaginary fashion only to find others on social media "wearing" the same thing for free by bootlegging it or photoshopping it on to themselves from your photo. Those would be really funny trolls. Then imagine the designers suing the makers of counterfeit software or anyone who "wears" their imaginary clothing without paying for it.

To be completely honest, this terrifies me. I think we're more or less from the same generation but I don't get it 🙁 what i love about clothes is the way the fabric feels on my skin, the layers, the way the air moves around/through it. I mean, I do get her point that this is in it's own way the next logical step etc. . And yet... Think of the things we'd lose....

I don't think we'd lose these things, but most youth hang out online. How many have you seen sit around a table all on their phones and then weirdly laugh at the same time. Communication has gone online. So now has the place to show off

Look at the prices shown in the example. I reckon if you do live a life outside of reality than one might be quite detached from the actual value of things. I do think it is creative and innovative, but I guess I am old. Living a life outside the matrix. NFTs are not for me.

Well it's called UV mapping of a tool to make it 3d in that regard but I think it's Blender overall

Digital fashion might be environmentally more sound. Many many resources are spent on low quality clothes that aren’t worn as much as they should.
That will not change, you still need REAL clothes if you leave your home and don't underestimate the amount of energy this crap will need.
It’s one of the most threatening greenwashing moments. There are no scientific research proving that statement. If you have ever learned statistics and how to conduct research you know that we simply can not compare 3D renders of clothing with the clothes.

What ever happened to the decades old promise of trying on digital clothes (seeing them on me!) and then purchasing the outfit to be sewn and delivered to me irl? I'm a 500 pound man and have extremely limited options when it comes to clothes. I've been abandoned by the clothing industry.
