    From horses I've learned to not get it wet, the hair stretches and you make it tighter.. you wiggle fingers into the mat and you pull the hair out of mat from the top. Dont even fuss with the mat. Keep gently sliding out 5 hairs at a time or so and move to different areas. I would have had that out in 30 minutes without breaking a single hair. I get bad mats in my hair regularly.

      @southernpaganprincess7739 10 місяців тому +20

      Yeah but human hair in these mats usually have a built up waxy film that acts like glue. Getting it wet allows the conditioner to create what’s called “slip”. Slip occurs when there’s enough moisturizer to fill the cuticle creating a slippery surface that allows the cuticle to stop grabbing like Velcro. Using cool moving water and a good moisture you can detangle most mats in the shower. Hot water makes matting worse.

      i find that wet hair is better because it stretches, if its dry it breaks off a lot more. when its stretchy, it can handle all the pulling. the mat is also full of oils and products so keeping it wet will soften all of that glue that holds the mat together.

      @@ilovedemonslayer7457 please use conditioner and detangler and lots of water to save your daughters hair. the mat is full of dead hair and dry oil and products that must be melted so you can work through and get the good hair worked free from the dead hair.

    I am dealing with this right now. Unfortunately, mine IS from depression. Moved to Raleigh just over a year ago to get married and it all fell apart. So my daughter and I are out here alone while my entire family is in Southern California.
    Everytime I think about my hair, it's just overwhelming that I push off doing it and it just gets worse. It's embarrassing. 🤦🏼‍♀️

      Ok I'm going through the same thing I got COVID 19 last year and of course I washed my long hair unable to hold my be arms up because due to sever weakness after showering I was being rushed after showering,I have several disabilities physical, severe anemic, asthma, chronic back pain and shoulder pain, anklognsing spondilitios, cancer,at 49 years old I've always been very particular about keeping my self up,l also keep my elderly parents up who are in better shape than I am I took care of my wonderful grandma and grandpa prior to there passing wouldn't change it for anything because they should there love 💕 and appreciateion for the years of taking care of them,as having sever code I was washing my hair one particular day and trying to lift my arms to comb and my Selfish parents were Rushing me , screaming to go to the store as I was combing my hair I began to tell them I f I don't finish combing my hair now while it fwas wet in put in a ponytail it will be so matted I will never get it out,of course it didn't matter to them so I had to stop 🛑 and go to the store or etc for them not to mention the migraine and shortness of breath that came along with COVID 19, I know I'm a wonderful person because I could have left them to do for there self, there very abusive, mentally and so now my hair is so matted I think I'm just going to have to cut most of it ,I take great pride I'm myself but when being being hospitalized 4 times for many things I'm suffering from depression I've learned be kind to myself even if no one else is,and put myself first when it comes to a lot of things , I know this sounds bizarre but it's true , so upset about there in consideration there in there 80s and have no respect to the one and only means of support that's me. So amazing to see kindness from people doing things like you All do.Wish me luck.God Bless.

      @jahgirl8647 this happened to me one other time years ago. I tried EVERYTHING and any kind of liquid, oil etc just made it a million times worse.
      The only thing that ended up working for me was waiting until it was 100% dry and then slowly started brushing from the bottom up. If I would get a section free, even if only a small little section, I would braid it and pin it back so it would not get caught up in the mess again.
      I was able to do mine within a few days of these videos and haven't had issues since. I actually cut a good 6-8 inches off because it was so dead and damaged. Now it's just above my shoulders. The shortest I've had it since I was a kid and begged my mom for basically a bowl cut lol. I love it and it's so easy to take care of now.

      @@robynaelliott7845 grief really is the worse emotion. And it causes so many other others as well. I'm still struggling and I am on meds, I see a psychologist and psychiatrist, I started working out etc. it's just taking everything in me to not fall back into that place. But Jesus, it's hard. Being alone in a state where you don't have a single friend to talk to or do even the simplest things like shopping or out for coffee is a big thing too. I didn't realize how much I needed my friends until being here and not having them.

    It definitely can happen fast I have very very long hair and if I’m not careful at night it will have a huge knot by morning. I just try to split it up by brushing from the bottom and working up. Luckily I’ve always got them out but I can see how it would be hard for someone to get them out. ❤

    My hair does this every day! Sometimes twice a day. Tied up or down loose. In bed or walking around. It’s happens.
    Deep conditioning mask and lots of patience. My scalp is dead to the pain. Worst is when ill and you mentally can’t do it for a week. Don’t judge you never know the cause

    I can sit on my hair but it has been in an up ponytail/braid and wrapped into a bun for 6 months after I broke my shoulder. It could be two years of recovery after shoulder replacement surgery. I had to use Dawn + Mane & Tail shampoo to wash it two days ago. Skipping the conditioner was a bad idea. it is so funny that the first product you brought out was the Mane & Tail spray on detangler. This was exactly what I grabbed. Having had a horse, I know how to brush tails. American Saddlebred show barns NEVER brush tails but finger groom them. This will now be my mission should I choose to accept it. Thanks for the video.

    How would you begin if the matted knots were on top of your head next to the scalp? She can literally take out her hair tie/scrunchie and the hair stays on top as if it were still tied up.

    • @PleatedSoul

      @LatinaSotelo when the hair follicles are open, the hair sticks together like a glue. How to open them is hot water, some shampoos, among other things. The knot will untangle itself if you open the follicles and close them. To close follicles, cold water is the best but that's only if your washing the tangle. If not, I use coconut oil. I heat up coconut oil in a milk frother, (not to hot, don't burn your scalp) & pour it onto matted or tangled hair with head upside down. You want to completely saturate the knot down. Then take comb or fingers and as the oil cools down, the knot unravels in your hands. It's the best method I have tried.
      Hope this helps!
