@@williamthompsoniv1879 Ive never ran on an indoor track, but I'm going to assume it's because of the sharper turns. Different tracks don't change anything besides different length ones
@@williamthompsoniv1879 Turns are a fraction slower than straights. And the tighter the turn, the more difficult to maintain constant speed. With all these records being smashed this indoor, Eugene is primed to be an amazing stage for the WCs this summer.
Just wait until Jakob reads what you wrote. 👀
Well done!!! from South Africa.
Crazy, my PR was 4.47 in Highschool, an entire minute slower and it felt incredibly fast to me
World champion 👍🇬🇧
I ran a 4:56 yesterday at an invitational as a sophmore and was completely shot afterwards. The fact that he can do that and just walk it off like nothing blows my mind.
Absolute badass, well done Josh🤟
When you look at the very short list of sub 3:50 indoor milers, you have to take into account the fact that Coghlan's 1983 race was run on a tiny 10 lap track. NEVER been an indoor miler to compare with the chairman of the boards.
And Coghlan didn't have magic shoes with carbon springs.
@@ColeMichael2027 yeah shoe technology has pushed the sport to new levels, pretty cool stuff
Absolutely brutal pace. Fantastic
Brilliant run Josh. VERY well done and augurs well for major championships later this year. Congratulations.
4:50 what an amazing teammate.
3:48 is the 7th fastest in that track’s history. There are 10 men who have run outdoor events in the one mile run under 3:48.
Thanks for clarifying that.
To be clear, this time was the 3rd fastest indoor mile time, ever. It sits behind Yomif Kejelcha @ 3:47.01, and Hicham El Guerrouj @ 3:48.45. Combining indoor and outdoor, this is still a half second out of cracking the top 25.
As a noob to the sport are u saying it's harder to run inside compared to outside? What's the sports science to that and do different tracks affect times
Indoor tracks are typically 200m, so equivalent distances have double the turns of outdoor, and those turns are so tight, they bank the track. Combined more & tighter turns will cause record times to be slower than equivalent distances outdoors.
5:55 in high school at 205 pounds. My body hurt and couldn't walk properly for two days. These guys are moving. I wonder what their body fat percentages read that day.
Sub 6 @ 205 is seriously impressive well done
@@patrickponce4838 Chugging that much weight sucked.
Like Patrick said, sub 6 is very impressive, actually regardless of your weight but especially at 205
My most recent time was 6:03 at around 215lbs and that is definitely pushing it for my size.
A+ Race, F for camera work and production.
I almost caught a glimpse of the rest of the field at the end.
I'd ask for your money back.
That's pretty crazy. Lots of praise to these guys... they are ALL incredibly fast. I ran track and CC when I was young. My best mile was 4:54 and no one in several counties could beat me. I never ran on a track like that though... looks like a Nascar track LOL. I'm barely a genius and my knowledge tells me having a track like that vs a FLAT track, there is clearly an advantage. I remember FLYING around the corners and feeling my feet wanting to slide sideways out of my shoes and they were on TIGHT.
Wow! In my 50s, I used to run 5K races outdoors in the FL heat & humidity and break 5:30 for my first mile, and then question how I'd ever finish the race.
As a runner from 1987 I can so RESPECT this accomplishment
I felt like I was flying when I got a sub 6 minute mile. Now my big ass is happy when I hit 8 minute miles.
Brought tears to my eyes
Looked like he was breathing easily after the race; not in any obvious great pain or discomfort.
I was ecstatic when I passed the 6 minute mark, this guy's on a whole other level
I ran a 5:10 once, goofing around doing timed miles as part of our high school cross-country practice. That was 40 years ago. I wish I had actually done one on a track at my very best. I'm sure somewhere in the upper 4's would have been all of it, though. These guys are several more notches up the ladders. Makes my lungs burn just watching them.
Unbelievable! What a run!
Imagine if he had good pacing throughout 1200m
He made it look easy and what’s crazy he was racing himself nobody there on his heels pushing him like centrowitz or hocker
Awesome display of controlled running
Good race Josh, sure you'll be running faster. Exciting, way to go. Keep it up 👍🏾😀
Totally awesome. Almost inspired me to get off the couch and go running. Almost. Of course when I was your age I played college athletics also. Never ran a mile that fast not even close. Awesome job.
Great run. Brutal camerawork.
This is nuts. I ran a 4:55 in high school. Was a smoker and I didn’t train. But these guys are just insane!!!!!
I wonder if with a more aggressive first 800 and a pacer all the way to 1200, if he could have gotten the world record.
That’s almost 2 seconds…but maybe.
Just wait till outdoors someone’s gonna take it down sooner or later
aren't the reported splits at the finish line? So, actual 880 was more like 1:55.8, no
That’s really incredible and even more Amazing indoors
That's crazy fast! I was able to to go from 15 min miles down to 6 min miles with a few months of training at the age of 34 and was able to do 3 miles non stop
I live for these Magical moments.
Shoutout to cam proceviat for breaking the Canadian indoor mile record!
mad respect to all of these guys
Watch him after the finish. Even he knows it's all about the shoes.
If anyone is wondering what kind of shoe he kept pointing at, it was the Sketchers AirPillow Walk-a-Bouts. $29.97 at Walmart
The World of Track and Field is changing. People are getting faster as a whole and closing in on these times.
The athlete and technology is finally reaching the level of the age of doping. Those late 90’s to early 2000’s were insane. The amount of world records that happened and then STAYED for a long time is wild. Glad to see clean athletes finally catching up to those records
@@jazzyjay4595 definitely all clean😳
@@joemilton3439 “clean” lol I think there’s more “clean” elites now than there was back then but the lines are definitely blurred at the top. I’ve always had the assumption that everyone close to national/world records is doing something that falls in the gray area
@@jazzyjay4595 clean u say 🤭🤭🤭
@@casanjt8515 see my reply above^
What’s amazing is that this man ran a sub 4 minute mile and looked like it was a casual jog the entire time.
1940's: "A mile in under 4 minutes? IMPOSSIBLE!"
2020's: "A mile in over 4 minutes? You'll never make it kid!"
True but to be fair they were probably smoking cigarettes during the race and hydrating with booze
I'm watching this....still finding it hard to believe. Wow.
Stout fellow. Even had the state of mind to try to catch the leaking roof drips after the race.
"stout fellow" and firm of fetlock LOL
Congratulations man, incredible.
My best time was 4:34 and when I got to the finish line, I couldn't walk. Meanwhile this dude is ready for another 800m same pace.
In that race about 10 years ago the first place was 4:27, I got third. The last person here did 4:06.84.
this is insane
It's incredible how times have changed so significantly over time. Good job man, even if people have since gotten much faster your times are still incredible.
@@Triisttan thank you so much! Have a good day or evening my friend
Hey your time is the same time as my best friends !!!!! Y’all Are crazy fast , here I am and my 5:45 mile🤣🤣🤣
They make it look so easy. Incredible.
Wow! That was fast!
Not me clicking all the people’s PRs thinking they’re time stamps
In a class of his own.
I'd say more like a class of his own and maybe like 6 or 7 other people lol
Doping more than others
Great job Josh and the pacers
It is hard to run on a track at that speed, those turns feel really tight...
Back in my days of competition running. 4:20/4:50 was awesome..
Now it's like, WOW!!!! 😀😀😀
he’s proving to me brand spikes don’t matter as much as we think
Never did
Exactly what Eduardo said, however those are Brooks super spikes. Nonetheless, spikes don’t matter it’s all fitness
When i met Josh at University of New Mexico, he told me he ran around 80 miles a week! HE'S INSANE AND I LOVE IT
Distance runners are a whole different breed of dedication and crazy. Astounding to watch this stuff.
That sounds about right lol. I knew kids in high school who ran 60ish miles a week running under 4:20 for the mile
It's amazing that announcers have no idea that it's a British record in 1st and a Canadian record in 2nd.
To be fair they sounded like little local guys whose knowledge of the sport was modest...they did ok.
No one cares
Not just British, a European record.
@@Mox3712 i don’t know who your comment was aimed at because you forgot to say but it’s worrying about you that you think you can read the minds of everyone.
I ran 2.5 miles in 14mins. 20secs. In Army basic training.
(My personal fastest...
I never came close since)
I literally thought I was going to DIE afterwards. these guys are machines!!
Great race. But . . . FloTrack, a pro tripod with fluid head is in the $3k-4K range. Can't you afford one?
Got to run a few practices with David from western. Super cool guy and a even better runner
Fastest shoe salesman on earth!
Ran my best ever 4:33 in high school.…..thought it was cool till I see i would’ve been over half a minute away from LAST PLACE sheesh
The craziest part to me is how they make 15 MPH look like a jog
That's exactly what I was thinking. They make it look so easy. Like I know that, based on the time, it's unimaginably fast, but watching them I can't help but think... I mean, it's only 4 minutes, right?? I could do that!
*16
The 4 minute mile has been the intended goal since i ran track in hs back in the 70s
As someone who went 4:35 in high school 10 years ago. I thought I was in top of the world. This is absolute insanity
4:35 is still incredibly good though, I mean these are the best athletes, they train for years to achieve this and are the best of the best....
Seeing the pacer so hype for him was great
So fast the cameraman couldn’t keep up 😆
On my senior year in high school the fastest mile I ever did was 5:45 which was the third fastest in school history( the others were 5:30 and 5:25) my cooper mile was 11:48 fastest. These guys right here are just out of this world.
