  • This is a one of a kind bronze ring, I used an impala head from an old sculpture I had made. Its not at all practical but still fun to make.

    This is why I want to do this. You can't buy stuff like this. You can put your imagination in wax then turn the wax into metal, its amazing. I learned a lot from this video.

    I have a friend who often wears a spiked choker that's made from nails through a strip of leather and impales whoever tries to hug them, I think they'd love this

    Unique and awesome! You could prevent if from moving by wedging something in there like wax. Remember girlfriend used this wedge principle to wear my larger class ring that kept if from moving )looked like sewing thread -- though this ring maybe should be displayed. Welding a second ring, like brass knuckles, would also prevent it from moving. 2nd, 3rd.. ring could be simple, or another impala, etc.

    Always good to watch your videos, you could square up the bottom a little to prevent the top heavy rotation.

    I'm a girl so I know where your wife is coming from. But I'm not sure that's the point here. I would look at this as practice. Plus, everyone has a different taste in things. Her & I could be very wrong! Plus, I can't lie, it is a pretty cool idea.

    I have been pouring bronze now for several years and have never used a vacuum to get the bronze to the finer details - just made sure that it was well sprued and gated in the traditional manner. So I would be very interested to see an experiment with and without the using the vacuum in the pour. I have been thoroughly enjoying your videos and am in the process of setting up a home foundry as I have lost access to the University foundry. I would also like to praise your castings of your original creatures.

    Nice work!
    No, I wouldn't because it is prone to a ring avulsion event. But then again, I don't wear normal rings either for the same reason. 😋 And here's another safety tip. The big carbide burr that you used with your rotary tool. YIKES! You were using it right next to your unprotected finger! 😁 I used to do the same until one day I gouged out a big chunk of flesh right down to the bone. Up until that happened I used to think rotary tools like that were completely harmless, and they are, but not when using big burrs. Nowadays, I wear thick leather finger cots. They also help you when it gets too hot to hold from the friction of grinding and polishing.

    Have you ever tried steaming the wax out so all you needed to burn out is the residue? You can even reuse the wax. As to the ring, I think your wife is right, but it was interesting to watch none-the-less. Thanks for the time and effort you gave to share it with us.

      Most of the time I do steam the wax out but that big blob of wax I put on to help fight the shrinkage was cheese wax and I didn’t want it to contaminate the rest of my microcrystalline wax.

    good video, but i wouldnt wear it 😅. i have an idea for a sculpture that could be interesting or bad, i dont know. make a model out of styrofoam. cover the model with wax but make it very drippy with lots of lines and drops until it looks good. melt the styrofoam chemically with gasoline or paint remover or other stuff that melts it. now you have a hollow wax sculpture to cast that has a very unique look.

    Damn Lucas, Nice job! I'd have added small vents on the horns. I have a similar vacuum set up, |What was that gasket material you had on? I use a high temp copper based gasket paste. Also- your vac pulls nicely- which one is it?

    We always used a spinner in metal class in middle school for rings and small stuff to get everything filled out. Is that practice used anymore?

    • @lundgrenbronzestudios
      @lundgrenbronzestudios  4 місяці тому

      It still is. Jewelers use it a lot. I use a vacuum pull that pulls the metal into the space instead.

    Just to prove your wife wrong, I would at least bid on it up to a certain amount. I don't think I would have a purpose to wear it, but I could see this being something worn at a Renaissance Fair or larping.
