Fully Enclosed Badland Winch Install on Utility Trailer…..Keeping it out of the weather

  • Installing a 9500lb ‪@harborfreight‬ Badland Winch. Customer wanted everything in the dry to keep it out of the weather. We also added some lights just in case its used at night.

    That cutter sure cuts the channel Iron well. The install is very professional done. I am going to do something similar to my trailer that I use to haul my Motorcar, railroad (speeder) 1969 Fairmont.
    I am going to build the winch/box platform and bolt it to the trailer frame using U bolts. I have always felt welding to a frame can cause hard spots which can cause the frame to crack, especially the tung area. also it will be much easier to re-mount on to another trailer in the future if need be.
    IF you are going to weld to tung, I would sugest Skip welding.

    I notice most people put “power disconnect” switches rather than “battery disconnect” on the ground side, That would cut power from the positive cable entirely.
