BOSS DR-660 Drum Machine Not Working

My fantastic BOSS DR-660 drum machine has stopped working. I replace the internal cmos battery in hopes that will restore the drum machine to operation. That leads to a shoot-in-the-dark troubleshooting session with surprising results.
