Yes, I Live 2 miles from Louisville❣️This year me and my husband were invited to Champions Day, which is the Wednesday before Derby 🌹 We also have 502’sday, Thurby, and Oakes Day 🌸 the week of Derby 🐎 🏆 You looked gorgeous on the red carpet❣️And you had on the traditional color palette, black and white 👍🏼 with your beautiful Derby Hat to match❣️👒
Yes, been to Millionnaires row on Derby Day. I got a free pass. I go every year in the Spring or Fall to Millionaires row with my retiree group. Not expensive at all when not Derby week. The buffet is great and spending the day watching the races is fun.
Eddie, please tell Aunt Peggy that we think she is absolutely gorgeous! She is always beautiful, but I've never seen her look so good as she does here! :)
I live two miles from Louisville, Kentucky! (I'm a southern Hoosier!) 😃 Here are FACTS: A Hot Brown is a hot open-faced sandwich originally created at the Brown Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, by Fred K. Schmidt in 1926. The legendary, open-face sandwich, which is made from Texas toast, thick-sliced turkey, cheesy Mornay sauce, crisp bacon & tomatoes, all baked until bubbling hot, was born here. There's NO 🚫 replacement!
I went on a business trip with a few of my fellow Nurses. Our Co. Kindred was based right across the street from the Brown Hotel where they put us up. The historic hotel was absolutely beautiful and this was years ago, but all I can picture is that delicious hot brown. I had never had anything like it. Paula you have to try it!! There is no substitute! The sliced tomatoes are also cooked in the sandwich. My trip was years ago. I would like to go back just for the Hot Brown. @mddell58 is so on point.🥰
I have never had this. Looks amazing. Gotta add those ingredients to my shopping list and give this a try. Really enjoyed being in the kitchen with all of the ladies! Hope you and Michael have a great trip to the derby!
so happy to see you connecting with family! how beautiful the two of them are! at first i thought aunt peggy was in albany NY...i was like wow thats far lol. glad to see she isnt too too far! my grandfather passed last year at 95-he was such a beautiful soul and really was so important to our family. im glad to see you guys still cherishing time together ❤
There's nothing else like this dish. I've eaten it at The Brown Hotel in Louisville. Unfortunately, it was at one of their restaurant buffet's and I made a pig of myself going for more. Indescribably delicious! Add their Bread Pudding and you'll think you've gone to Heaven. And, it is an open sandwich, not something you pick up
Paula, I was born and raised in Danville, Kentucky. We welcome you to the Bluegrass state and hope you enjoy your time here. We met in 2005 when my family and I were visiting Tybee Island for my 13th birthday - you, Michael and Michelle were at Walmart buying tomato plants. I still have a picture of us.
Aunt Peggy looks so elegant. Always a treat to see her watching Paula cook! That looks yummy. Would love to see video footage of Paula and Michael at the Kentucky Derby this year-all dressed up…
Hi Paula love your videos and your recipes look so yummy I'm new watching your videos love love them I'm from Kansas and I love to cook and garden and love me some JUCKEN. Do you garden? Do you go to vintage shops! Love your cooking videos!!!!Have A Great Day!!!!
My limited experience is with roast beef, mashed taters, and brown beef gravy. There is a local restaurant in my area that does this with meatloaf, or liver, or portabella mushroom "steaks". Best dishes 🍽️
Since we ain't gamblers and that's mostly what the derby is known for besides their treatment of the horses, and the fact that we didn't want to be associated with anybody at that hotel, we've always called them "Kenturkey Hot Bakes", but some call them "Kentucky Hot Bakes". When I lived in Louisville there was several folks that adopted those names for them in order to veer away from those associations as well. They've always used turkey as far as I know, but it's your food, so use what you like. I've known folks that done up several varieties of these at the same get together, including: Turkey, chicken, roast beef, beef brisket, pulled pork and ham, and some have done a combination of those meats on the same sandwich. And the cheese sauce can be made with your choice of cheeses, and I'm fond of a really good pepper jack and provolone, and usually grate the pepper jack and add some grated parmesan cheese on top, but will use a good white cheddar for those that don't like anything spicy. And folks associated with Kentucky Downs are mostly opposed to the use of orange cheddar cheese in this dish. I'd rather not have orange cheese either, but it's your food, so use what you want or what you have. But I have to say, the use of smoked cheeses, smoked meats and smoked paprika will make this a lot better than you could imagine.
Have you ever made Benedictine sandwiches Paula? Delicious! Another Kentucky tradition. Also, you need to come back when we have Thunder over Louisville. It always takes place on the Saturday, two weeks before the Derby. During the day, is about an eight hour airshow and then the Thunder starts at 9:30 and last for ½ hour. Biggest fireworks and drone show in the United States!

Hello 👋 ❤❤
As a Kentuckian, no, you can't just use any meat in a Hot Brown. It's turkey and bacon. Period.
Paula! Good milk gravy can make a shoe taste good!!!! 😉
Horse racing needs to be banned.
Can you make pigs in a blanket? Or something piggy?
Iliketheshowpauladeenfromdouglasshaffer❤
I think you are scraping up the teflon on the pan ? That’s what on your whisk ? I can hear the scratching sound .
You also could be scraping off the silicon coating on your whisk?
Girl, those glasses have GOT to go!
This is like sh** on a shingle. but you use hamburger.
