Barry was the leader when the twins were young but he actually needed them even then because the public thought, three brothers, two of them twins, were cute and a novelty BUT the twins grew up to be equally as talented as songwriters, Mo as a far better musician and musical arranger, and Rob as an amazing songwriter and vocalist who was eccentric, awkwardly cute and had a lot of fans. How dare they do that, LOL! He still treated them as little kids and didn't seem to respect them as much as they deserved. Barry was used to getting all the attention, being the oldest, leader of his younger brothers, a confident public relations guy and best looking. He did not want to relinquish that position. Unfortunately for Barry, it was Robin whose voice made many of their early songs their biggest hits, I can't see nobody, World, 1941 NY Mining Disaster, Holiday, I can't see nobody, and their major 60's hits, Massachusetts, I started a joke and I've Got to get a message to you. The last three were also written primarily by Rob. On most other songs they shared the lead. As a result there was fighting between Barry who saw himself as the boss and Robin who wanted some recognition he felt due to him. Barry failed to concede that he wasn't the only one with talent and should remain leader by his looks and age. Looks don't determine talent! Finally, when the songs "Lamplight" and "First of May" were to be released, Robin understood his song, "Lamplight" was to be the "A" side but it was the "B" side. That was the tipping point for him and he felt disrespected and left. There were also outsiders always telling both Barry and Robin they could be solo stars. Robin had his own hit with "Saved by the Bell" but their father, Stigwood and the record execs tried to stop DJ's from playing Robin's songs. How nasty! Their father even tried to make Robin a "ward of the court" (sounds like Brittney Spears!) because he was still a teenager, although he was also already married! Barry and Mo didn't exactly soar like eagles without Robin and their movie "Cucumber Castle" was a flop. They realized The Bee Gees were three and could not likely succeed alone. Finally after 18 months Robin went to Barry and tried to reconcile. That night they wrote "How can you mend a broken heart" and "Lonely Days", two songs as much about missing each other as they were love songs. Regardless, Barry still lead the group. There was a definite family pecking order and that never changed. During the "disco" era (my least favorite) Barry's falsetto became center stage. Robin went along with it because it sold records. Even Barry admitted to Robin "No one sings like you" in a later interview and said Robin's voice was "killer, better than my own". Many have called Robin the best white soul voice ever. Even in an interview last year with Al Roker on the Today Show, Barry said Robin should have sung lead more often. Who made him the boss? What a useless concession to make after his brother was already dead!

At the singles Peace of Mind and Don't Say Goodbye, that was released at this time (february or march '64), his voice singing the high harmony changed a bit, comparing with the Bee Gees aparision performing "Da-Doo Ron-Ron" and "Sweets For My Sweet" their last 1963 registred performance on UA-cam, was on air in october '63 at Brian Henderson Bandstand. Barry was the lead singer, Robin did the high harmony and Maurice did the low harmony at the early songs from the sixties. His voice changed so fast in the years 1964/65/66. 😂😂

@@brcfan9That’s been my observation. And the reason it has to be “fact” is because they’re trying really hard to give Robin something, because he’s so, let’s just say, quirky. But at the end of the day what one considers a great voice, or the best voice, is never fact. Everyone has different tastes, and you can’t force your opinions on others. So I get why they do it. It is, however, obnoxious, to say the least. And saying “sorry Barry”, or “sorry Barry fans” is just being passive-aggressive. Born of jealousy and anger. I really like Robin’s song. It’s a really cool song. But I also really like Spicks and Specks. It’s one of my favorite Bee Gees songs.

Oh wow, that's one song I liked from the Rolling Stones, not a big fan, but my brother was, I was and still am a Bee Gees fan. Must say I do like Robin's version a lot.
To whoever kept this and put it up, thank you. I have watched it now about half a dozen times, I am fascinated by this performance. What a gem! Is it at a faster beat than the Stone's original? I wish there would be albums with their not so well known works. I know Barry is a perfectionist and he may think some are not good enough, but BG's fans would love it, they are always perfect to us.

wow. god I love youtube. I stumbled upon this. I LOVE the Bee Gees...but when I saw this I thought it would be a hollow cover of the Stones and Chris Marlowe's version. it's very good. I actually think it speaks to the SONG. lots of ways to sing it,,,,kind of like the American Standards like cole porter. LOTS of ways to sing it. damm that was good
