The Director mentioned in an interview that the Cook had a magical anklet on his leg which protected his identity from the Chaathan, but the mention of it had to be removed from the final cut due to pacing issues i believe
Yakshi leads him to the mansion. Mammootty says "fate brought you here" but it was actually his influence. The cook had a amulet which helped him remember and also prevented mammootty from reading his past. The director said he had to cut that scene from the edit (bad decision).
The director deleted it probably because Mammootty knew he was going to be freed, implied by his line "Everything is predetermined." He knew but didn't know how.
Could you review Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar 4K ? Apart from Mammootty's acting, it's a great introduction to the Legendary Ambedkar , the father of Modern India. And a great take on Gandhi Ambedkar debates
The cook was learned in the magic arts from his father, the real Potteey. He was able to shield himself and his identity that way and also revive Thevan after he was near death after his failed escape. The Yakshi was drawn in by the Chatthan....two supernatural beings having some much needed cuddle time.
The movie is deeply connected to the book ' Aithihya Maala' ( trans. Garland of legends) which is a collection of folklore and Myths of Kerala. It also includes stories of various Yakshis , Sorcerers ( even one who is a Padre) , Elephants , and Gods
The clip at the beginning is pure sign that you guys really does watch the movie and enjoys it. I also suggest you guys to do more Malayalam movie reactions because we love watching it.keep going ❤
The best malayalam movie to come out this year alongside Aatam. Also, there is an interview I have seen with the director explaining 1.The cook has an inherited magical toe ring so the chathan cant read his mind. 2.He brought the Yakshi to setup the universe of the movie, more like to prepare audience for the coming supernatural elements. Maybe the yakshi is recruiting preys for the Chathan, or Thevan halucinates the second time he sees the Yakshi and chathan together (mixing both his fears) after he s drunk, its open to us. 3. Thevan refuses to leave the mansion early because he fears the dangers outside more that time like wilderness, Yakshi, starves, etc. But still it would have been nice if it was explained in the movie, still a great Movie for me!! The perfect blend of Thumbaad and Vidheyan as you guys said. 😍😍
While discussing the film, it is better to show some glimpses of the Movie would be better and It may.attract more audience, I think ur level of detailed discussion and the exposure we are getting great, You guys deserve more audience.
Great review guys! I would have loved it if you could have dwelled a little deeper into the master-slave dynamic underscoring the entire movie including the (spoiler) ending. But I guess you wanted to keep the review 'pure', which I understand. Keep them coming!

@@althafhussain6401@althafhussain6401 from what I know it's more of a malayalam movie with mostly malayalam dialogues. Tells the story of two malayalee nurses working in Mumbai. The director is also a malayalee. So why not
This movie is much more than a horror movie. It is a movie about human nature, societal hierarchy, exploitative political power/ autocracy which makes the victims (slaves) lose their right/habit to think and react and a lot more. All these are expressed through the horror folklore. If you miss these layers of meaning, you miss the core meaning. The theme is reinforced when the exploitative foreign ivader( the Portuguese soldier) appears towards the end.
This is my favourite movie of the year. Was walking down the road at night after and the ambient sounds were keeping me on alert. Genuine masterpiece. P.S. Save Buddy from the attic!

I couldn't agree more I loved this movie, one of the best of 2024 for me. Like you guys I also loved Tumbbad I think those two movies together are a great introduction to most Western people that Indian cinema isn't all music numbers and joy. It can be super dark and super serious. Great review!
Hi Jimmy and Deniz, awesome review as usual! I go with Deniz’ rating just because of the guts of throwing this entire film shot in black&white in this Age of Madness 😅 It’s box office run underlines the success as the audience enjoyed it without any boredom/awkwardness 👍
Adore these quality analyses of movies man. By the way I rewatched Kandukondein Kandukondein which was an 7 for me in 2000 (more like 7.2 but I dont do that) but after watching some insights over the years I rewatched it and it is a 7.6 hence 8 cos I dont do that.
The ending reminded me of apocalypto as well. It feels inspired and not copied. With the cook, he actually wears a bangle on his leg that helps him with mental defense, which was a deleted scene. Mammootty saying "everything is predestined" hints at how he knows he'll get freed and is playing along. Him knowing kind of explains everything in this movie. Like how the yakshi lured thevan over to him.
@@shanks17272 The movie gets weak when the cook and our protagonist starts their plan to defeat the goblin. The goblin has been portrayed so powerful during the early parts. Coz, The place keeps raining all the time. The bungalow is under its control. How can the cook so easily step into that room? The movie had great potential, but got in the wrong direction that we don't care about anything that happens in the later parts.

The cook had learned sorcery just like his father. He was able to shield his mind and true intentions from the goblin.
The cook is also a sorcerer which he learnt from his father. He has spells that helped him.

0:09 intro 😁💥😎
Once you should visit India, you can see same kind of mansions in many places.
It has a socio-political layer too.. power game and oppression
Manjummel Boys, Aavesham and Premalu. Hope you guys get to these soon :)
Intro was nice ❤️❤️
Its the current indian people trapped under hindutwa rule lost thier colours ,happinnes and memmories.
Why bring religion in everything......
6:37 Yes, I wanted more texture; and the nights were not dark enough.
If it is too dark you might miss the details of the night.
So dark that you can't see? Like the long night in GOT? The film is perfect as it is.
