      I think your reacting to the input you wanna do after the low maybe you’re thinking 2-4 steps ahead and doing the actions out order like trying to punish before the low actually comes out and getting clipped for it

      Well, it is kinda goated, since I try to do that myself, but in reality it's a lot better to parry lows in strings, like, Jin's 1,3,4, rather than every low. Any low that has a HUGE minus on block is a godsend if you properly punish that.
      Also I am a victim of low parries myself, because the backbone of my Shaheen gameplay (F2,4,4) is being low parried my brain just halts for like a whole round. Man, I should work on it.

    Is there a different logic when you're fighting characters with a good low game? Chars like Mishimas who get a combo off an unreactable low, or chars like Hwoarang who will keep harassing you with strings that incorporate lows, you can't really go with the logic of just taking the low until it gets predictable, esp past low level where people's mixups aren't so obvious anymore

    • @PhiDX
      @PhiDX  6 місяців тому +12

      It depends! If people really are willing to do the low 50 times, then yeah answering it matters. But a lot of low-mid level players also have anxiety of their lows being blocked and decide to go mid eventually

    One thing I had to learn about Tekken coming from 2D games, and Tekken vets can correct me if I’m wrong:
    Fast lows in Tekken feel like the equivalent of universal overheads in 2D games, and stand blocking is like the crouch blocking of 2D games except even stronger because there’s not really a Tekken equivalent to eating a big combo that starts with a jump-in (UNLESS you’re mashing).
    Like, do universal overheads in games like DBFZ and MK11 do damage? Sure. Do they give your opponent frame advantage? Sure. Do they change the status quo that against most characters you’re probably going to want to default to crouch blocking? I wouldn’t say so, and in my limited experience lows and stand blocking in Tekken seem to be the equivalent. If you come from an NRS game where canned overhead/low mix means you’re going to want to practice against certain strings, or DBFZ where IADs are a major mixup tool, you might think you need to make a strong effort to block every low, the same as you need to block every overhead combo starter string, or every IAD combo starter in DBFZ, but you really don’t… I mean, not at first, anyway. The reactable lows, yes, definitely make an effort to block those.
    Of course that’s just like… complete beginner advice. Anyone who knows anything about Tekken will probably either not need to hear that or even disagree with me, but that’s what helped me, anyway.

  • @berkaykilic5883
    @berkaykilic5883 5 місяців тому

    Its really simple. In tekken you have side stepping options, which eliminate MULTIPLE options of the enemy. For example: you can step kazuyas hellsweep to the left, and at the same time his electrics too, devilman too, etc. So if u can constantly step to the side, u force him to use his homing move, which is -12 on block. He takes a risk, while ur just sidesteppin and blocking. If he use homing, u punish it and utilize ur + frames. Now mix him up. Ofc this works for every character in differenty patterns but its the same principle

    of course, "reactable" in tekken means "possible to react to about 50% of the time if you spend several hours in training for that specific character".

    • @Blood-Talon
      @Blood-Talon 5 місяців тому

      Yeah call me a scrub if you want but there are way too many matchup specific things in this game. “Just sidestep” sidesteps only work if you have a good read on a stepable move and you know which way specifically you have to step for that move for that character it’s to much. And on top of that almost every move tracks even if it’s not homing so what’s the point. Like they made throws “stepable” but exempted almost all of drags throws and a lot of kings. They were the problem. The generic 1+2 isn’t giving me that much trouble it’s drag and king endlessly throwing I have an A in throw breaks but you can’t break them all and they’re all still tracking and they have throw mixups on top of everything else. I just wish there was a little more general application for things like ducking and stepping and preventing throw spamming

    • @Aldrenean
      @Aldrenean 5 місяців тому

      @@Blood-Talon a general tip that might help is just to step a little later. The reason that some non-tracking moves feel like they're tracking is likely because you're stepping before the move actually comes out, so when it does it realigns to your new position.

    PhiDX, I have a request for the community. If possible, could you compile all the reactable lows? There's not a video on YT for it for Tekken 8. We know most the cast has them, but having one visual compendium would be highly useful for a lot of players. Right now, it's kind of the wild west on this topic. There's general advice, and there's character by character guides, but having one visual guide would help newer players recognize the visual cues better, or even open their eyes to it being reactable.

  • @Prog242
    @Prog242 6 місяців тому

    You don't "deal" with lows, it's the maths of chance.
    e.g. Howarang Slap-Kick flow chart: RFS f4(H) > f4(H) > f4(H) > df4(M)
    mix (H) w/ (M) and then (M) w/ (L)
    opp duck first=0% success(you'll get launched everytime)
    opp duck second: 50/50, third ~75% (you can reasonably predict opp's def)
    fourth should be ~85-95% (if you always M on 4th / mix with lows)
    You can't reasonably predict opps defense past that 4th moment.
    you can replace any of the (H)igh with (L)ows to make opp duck
    then hit the (M)id.
    Remember the rule of 3: most opponents will only block wrong twice at maximum.
    You can play that same flowchart with (M) to make opp standing guard, then hit them with a Low.

    Example ->
    Kazuya wave dash at me on Oki. I have 40 hp % and he also have 40 % hp. We can both die in 1 combo.
    In this situation, should i pick standing still, coz mid will lauch me, and i can take 2-3 lows, or should i risk it and block low, beacuse if i guess correctly i can win there?
    Is there any good anserw for that?
    And also as Kazuya, what is the correct desiosion in this situation?

    • @odkgame693
      @odkgame693 6 місяців тому

      There is no answer for your question. It's 50/50 so the decision making depends on player. This is a mind game. Game 1 it's impossible to make a correct read in this situation. But you must be able to read your opponents mindset. For example if during the match your opponent used powercrush/ra or mashed in minus frames there is a bigger chance that he would do double hellsweep without fear. You can find a video on "friendly koala" channel about reading your opponent mood "hwoarang with 100% strategy"

I somewhat adapted to Tekken's gameplay, but sidestepping is still a mystery to me, and I feel like that's why I'm stuck demoting and promoting from Bushin/Tekken King. That Dragonov at the start was cheating. They were definitely using macros. Just pay attention to the rollback numbers and signal colors. Especially at the very end of the set when it goes yellow. Not the color specifically. But the signal drop. That's a tell for cheaters.
