I am still using the same 2016 original WIndows 10 installation seven years later - and I've upgraded several video cards, two motherboards/CPUs, memory, and pretty much everything else. No issues whatsoever.
I believe that it depends on whether you are having retail version (with transferable key) or OEM version. One thing for sure , you don't have to re-install your home window in your house and black out curtain.
So I see mixed comments on this subject, to be specific I’m going from a 450 series motherboard to a 550 series motherboard. They are both Asrock and both are Steel Legend Series. If I swap out the 450 for the 550 then I shouldn’t see any issues?
So I did it this weekend and everything seems to be running ok. The only issue I have is activating windows since I switched hardware and the troubleshooting through windows didn’t work to reactivate.
should be fine, switched from b350 whatever to a asrock x670e, and downloaded the new bios without the need for a windows flash, only had to unplug the linux partition of my dual booth.
Question I’m thinking of doing a motherboard upgrade, even though mines is in this date I jus want more features that’s all, so if I were to swap out my former with the new one I jus have to put everything back inside, my ssd with windows or HDD, gpu etc, I won’t have to reinstall windows and stuff, like after the swap I just have to start up my pc to check everything is working but as long my ssd or hdd with windows 10/11 is fine, I won’t have to reinstall it’ll jus do the work putting in the OS? Also will swapping wipe out my downloads, files games etc?
Word of advice to those on oem software your system might have identity issues afterwards if you switch and reactivate it still thinks it’s the original system that was licensed not sure if this will cause issues down the road but worth considering before you switch.
