Hey everyone, We understand we did mistake in the video, and here are those mistakes 👉 1) India went to 1987 world cup's semi final, we forgot to mention this. 2) Ajay jadeja in bowling unit part, that was actually meant to be mentioned properly in editing but we forgot to. 3) jayasuriya had 3 wickets instead of 4 (we mentioned 4 wickets) apart from these, we don't think there was any particular mistake from our end. We accept our mistake and will try best to improve in the future videos and make our videos more better! Thanks.
1) Sri Lanka didn't beat Australia during the group stage. Australia refused to travel to Sri Lanka due to political turmoil, that's why Sri Lanka was awarded the match. While making a video on such a big issue, you should be more careful about the information & data you are sharing. 2) Another thing is the way you put India's performance in the group stage it looked like a juggernaut. The truth is India only beat Kenya, Zimbabwe & West Indies in the group stage, the same West Indies who got beaten by Kenya & that too with the help of Sachin's catch being dropped by WI keeper at very early stage of the innings. So in reality, the Indian Campaign was never too good in that World Cup. Yes, beating arch rival Pakistan in the quarter finals ( especially which was a least expected win keeping in mind India's record against Pakistan in ODIs during 80s & early 90s ) at Bangalore made everyone's expectations higher. Even during the group stage the match against Australia was mostly played by Sachin who scored 90 out of team total of 143 before being stumped while chasing wide delivery from Mark Waugh. There are more missing analyses like India was never a good chaser prior to Greg Chappell's era & very poor during the 90s often even squandering chases from good position.
i think azhar was one of the revolutionary captains of india.in 90s india continuously won in odi matches ,random series ,asia cups,only World cup dissapointment nd big mistakes made ajju a fixer or haters but ajju was lethal batsman those times

2:17 Sri Lanka ne group stage me Australia aur West Indies ko haraya nahi tha. It was a walkover. They got points for those matches because Australia and WI refused to travel to Sri Lanka due to security concerns.
But SL captain wanted to beat Australia in the final and they have done that. SL deserves that world cup. India was just focusing on 2 or 3 dangerous players. They didn't recognise aravinda, arjuna, mahanama and gurusinha

Cant forget the night i was 9 years old and watching it with my family and not only kambli cried but every Indian too, i didnt knew what was fixing back then but when i recently watched the full match again it looked very evident that except few players most of them are looking obvious to loose their wicket easily and it not a good watch even now 😢

Exactly, I watched that game live with entire family and friends. We all knew it was fixed. The way Mongia , Jadeja , and Azar got out, Anyone could tell, they weren’t even trying and had already give. Up. All three could have Finnished the game by themselves. They were all good finishers. I still can’t wrap my head around Jadeja, who coming from a rich royal family was by no means poor.

In my whole life I don’t remember a day I cried like when India got knocked out by Sri Lankans at Eden Gardens on that day. It was a Wednesday and as long as Sachin was there India had hope. But eventually the inevitable happened. Kambli cried and the whole India cried. I was only 8 years old but the pain was so real. There were so many news reports which criticised Azhar for taking bowling despite winning the toss. It was a poetic justice that we won the final in 2011 against Sri Lankans though I got nothing against them now. It took 15 years and four World Cups to heal the wound cut deep down in the hearts of many Indians. ❤

As a 13y old I was perplexed why we chose to field - it had a universal reputation of favouring teams bowling second. Given what transpired with Azhar thereafter I can’t give him the benefit of doubt on this one…
On the Kapil Sharma show , Ajay Jadeja informed that Navjot Sidhu was the only person suggesting to bat first , every one else wanted to bat second . The reason behind this was that in the previous India Sri Lanka match , Jayasuriya and Kaluwitharna had blown away the Indian bowlers . So in the semi-final , Indian team decided to bowl first , take out the Sri Lankan top order and restrict them to an achievable score . The plan was working Jayasuriya 1 Kaluwitharna 0 Gurusinha 1 Final score Sri Lanka 251 Until Tendulkar got out on 65 And everything just fell apart . How can we blame the pitch when it is a Home ground ? it hurts because it was the World Cup semifinal , but sometimes things happen beyond your control .
Azharuddin purely and surely apne liye khelta tha aur sochta tha. Woh ab tak ka ik lota captain hai jisne 3 world cups mein captaincy kari par World Cup fir bhi na jeet saka.
Do not forget India was thrashed by SL in the league stage and hence they went defensive. If the whole world believes Sachin they go by his book (autobiography) where he clearly mentions that the team misread the wicket. Also in one of the recent interviews even people like V Prasad, Sanjay Manjrekar said it was unanimous decision to chase only Sidhu in the team meeting opined to bat first. But the team went with opinion on the basis of majority. Blunders do happen. This was one of those! End of the story. That match wasn't fixed. One can see the spin vision of the second innings example Sanjay Manjrekar getting bowled to a widishly pitched delivery took a sharp turn and came in to knock the stumps. I think even Jadeja got out similarly. It was a pathetic wicket. Not a world cup wicket at all. If Kolkata crowd was angry that night, they should have been angry with the curator. Not the players.

Sri Lanka was a way better side than India in that world cup. I understand the collapse of Indian batting was very out of the normal, but lets face it the pressure and unstable batting along with tough wicket may have caused. Sri Lanka were the best and deserved to win with us. We cannot blame the decision of fielding or batting first. Sri Lanka had a way horrible start than us.

I was actually wondering, India was 120/8 and the batters were still batting. Even Kambli was batting, even though only 10 runs not out. What if the match continued? Would Kambli have scored a good knock and carried the team?
Let us agree on one thing. Sri Lanka was the best team in 96. They defeated australia and india and every other team they played against. Azhar was no where near Arjuna. Sachin was at his best but was easily countered by Desilva. Sri lankan strategy of using spinners on every indian and srilankan pitches is used till date. Kalu and Jayasuriya aggression was helping srilankan cruise in every chase. If india would have played first it would have been a more interesting match, may be india would have won semis (which i highly doubt), still india was no where near australia. Only answer to them was Sri Lanka. 27 years now i was a young kid then, i remember crying whole night. I watched finals and supported australia just because india lost to sri lanka. Today when i look back i am satisfied that india lost to a better side. Every player of that sri lankan team was a gem.
@@venusdweller Sachin scored 523 runs in 7 innings in that world cup at 87.6 average while DeSilva scored 448 runs in 6 innings at 89.6 average. DeSilva scored with a much better strike rate than Sachin, but most importantly DeSilva gave performances in the biggest games of that WC, semifinals & finals, being the man of the match in both. In semi came to bat when team was at 1 run for 2 wkts down vs India, smashed 47 ball 66 runs, changed the game. In the final scored a century in chase & took 3 wkts as well. So yes DeSilva countered Sachin in that world Cup as well as everyone else.
@@elamcyril I agree DeSilva had a dream tournament - especially the strike rate trumping Sachin's. But SL had multiple match winners in 1996 and was probably the strongest team in that tournament. India was solely dependent on Sachin. Look at the semi final - after Sachin's departure, India lost all their wickets for less than 30 runs. Sachin couldn't afford to play faster - he had to stay and ensure India succeeds. You look at overall strike rate and average of Sachin and DeSilva in their overall ODIs - you will see who has the edge here.

One of the all time great ODI performance. If you think it's easy performing in a World Cup final, even the great Sachin failed miserably in both world cup finals he played in. Sachin is much better ODI batter than DeSliva was, that's not a point of debate here, in this tournament however DeSilva was by far the best player of the tournament, better than Sachin & everybody else.
The pitch was dug up for the opening Ceremony of the world cup and laid fresh. It wasn't tested and India's bad luck, we had to bat second one that pitch.

Few points worth mentioning for the present generation who might be not well versed what happened in that match. 1. Sri Lanka was attiiwas unstoppable. And they were really chasing well against all teams with new stretegies. This again got proved in final against Australia. 2. India successfully taken 2 most crucial wickets of Jayasurya and Kaliwith'na by fast bowlers but mysteriously Anil Kumble introduced in front of Arvinda D'Silva who is better player of spin. 3. Sudden fall of wickets after a good partnerships also raise suspicion. 4. India was not as big team in 90s as it is today so with advent of TV telecast a team like srilanka can give bookies uncountable profit against the India at home turf. These are solely my views . So nobody should get hurt.

We lost 1996 WC, 2003 WC, 2017 CT, 2023 WC just because of misreading the wicket is ridiculous. 1996 and 2023 WC were just not acceptable given that they were in our home turf and opponent read conditions better than the Indian Team.

I think this match was heavily influenced by the India - Srilanka league match and some of the other matches where Srilanka was literally chasing down anything by those days standards . Decision to bat first on the turning wicket backfired . However couldn't blame the team management as that was the impact Srilankans created with Run chases in the that tournament . We all knew India were to bat if we would have won the toss . So no surprise decision there .
If toss can be a reason to call match fixed, same will go to 2013. All expected India to bat first. T20 World Cup we won, had bowling decision of dhoni failed, all would have called it fixed.
Suspicious decisions by team India fuels the rumor of match fixing. Till then, more matches were won defending a score than chasing, batting second was not a thing in those era. The way Azhar got out was strange, as the ball went straight out of the face of the bat, as if it was intentional.

The truth is a mediocre Indian team got smashed in semifinals as they did in group stage by SL as well. It wasn't EG wicket but Sri Lanka was in peak form from beginning of the World Cup. batting first would not have made much difference as India batting was exposed multiple times with Sachin wicket fall. Don't forget Sri Lanka won World Cup batting second in final. In the end We lost to the best team of the World Cup. In fact India had much better chance of winning World Cup in 1987 . Gooch batting against our spin attack took the game away from us. We did bat well but in the end fell short by few runs as we kept losing wickets for bad deliveries.

Only thing which gave India after kambli and that humiliating loss of 1996 semifinal was The Bengal Tiger and the Wall of India. I started watching cricket with my father because there's no options left when you had only 1 tv in family 😂😂😂 My father was a big cricket fan and Azhar fan because he was from poor family but achieved greatness with his hardwork hence he felt close to him and told stories of his struggles to us. But after Azhar was convicted of match fixing he hated Indian cricket team and specially Azharuddin because he felt cheated but I had chosen my Hero and become a die hard fan of Dada. A leader like Ranatunga deserved a World Cup because of how he lead Sri Lanka and from where he took them. Also I don’t feel bad that india missed out because I am fairly certain india would have lost to Australia in the final if they went

Whenever India won it was a great victory, whenever India lost the match was fixed. For instance no one will ever say that India vs Pakistan Q/F in 1996 was fixed.
This was definitely NOT Match fixing! The Sri Lankan team played magnificently under Arjuna. Remember Sri Lanka scored a world record 952/6d against the same Indian team in Sri Lanka in 1997 August 2nd. Jayasuriya scored a 300 plus. Sangakkara's batting average for more than 12,000 runs was 57.4. Higher than ANY Indian batsman, with 11 double centuries , only next to Bradman with 12. We also had the world's greatest bowler Murali with 800 wickets. Dont underrate Sri Lanka. We entered THREE ODI World cup finals, 2011, 2007, and won in 1996. We beat South Africa in South Africa 2-0 , Feb 2019. NO Asian team has ever beaten South Africa in test cricket on their turf. In my whole life I don’t remember a day I cried like when India got knocked out by Sri Lankans at Eden Gardens on that day. It was a Wednesday and as long as Sachin was there India had hope. But eventually the inevitable happened. Kambli cried and the whole India cried. I was only 8 years old but the pain was so real. There were so many news reports which criticised Azhar for taking bowling despite winning the toss.
It was a poetic justice that we won the final in 2011 against Sri Lankans though I got nothing against them now. It took 15 years and four World Cups to heal the wound cut deep down in the hearts of many Indians.

Do not forget India was thrashed by SL in the league stage and hence they went defensive. If the whole world believes Sachin they go by his book (autobiography) where he clearly mentions that the team misread the wicket. Also in one of the recent interviews even people like V Prasad, Sanjay Manjrekar said it was unanimous decision to chase only Sidhu in the team meeting opined to bat first. But the team went with opinion on the basis of majority. Blunders do happen. This was one of those! End of the story. That match wasn't fixed. One can see the spin vision of the second innings example Sanjay Manjrekar getting bowled to a widishly pitched delivery took a sharp turn and came in to knock the stumps. Sachin scored 523 runs in 7 innings in that world cup at 87.6 average while DeSilva scored 448 runs in 6 innings at 89.6 average.
DeSilva scored with a much better strike rate than Sachin, but most importantly DeSilva gave performances in the biggest games of that WC, semifinals & finals, being the man of the match in both.
In semi came to bat when team was at 1 run for 2 wkts down vs India, smashed 47 ball 66 runs, changed the game.
In the final scored a century in chase & took 3 wkts as well.
So yes DeSilva countered Sachin in that world Cup as well as everyone else.

DeSilva other than his Semifinals heroics, put a ridiculous performance in the final against a strong Aussie team, a World Cup final century in chasing as well as 3 wkts with the ball. One of the all time great ODI performance. If you think it's easy performing in a World Cup final, even the great Sachin failed miserably in both world cup finals he played in.
Sachin is much better ODI batter than DeSliva was, that's not a point of debate here, in this tournament however DeSilva was by far the best player of the tournament, better than Sachin & everybody else.

I think this match was heavily influenced by the India - Srilanka league match and some of the other matches where Srilanka was literally chasing down anything by those days standards . Decision to bat first on the turning wicket backfired . However couldn't blame the team management as that was the impact Srilankans created with Run chases in the that tournament . We all knew India were to bat if we would have won the toss . So no surprise decision there .
India did well just to reach semi finals in 1996. No way they could have won. SA, AUS, SL and PAK were all better teams at that point.
If toss can be a reason to call match fixed, same will go to 2013. All expected India to bat first. T20 World Cup we won, had bowling decision of dhoni failed, all would have called it fixed.

The truth is a mediocre Indian team got smashed in semifinals as they did in group stage by SL as well. We were simply not good enough, fixing excuse is usually given because we can't accept being bested by a better team.

Yes, Srilanka was a better team throughout the tournament, but in the semifinal team India was leading till Tendulkar got out stumped and I don't believe Jadeja, Azar and kamble were incapable of getting 150 runs in less than run a ball.

India was playing like an unbeatable team in 1987 which was being played in India around Deepawali festival, Chetan Sharma had taken first hat trick of 1 day cricket and Gavaskar’s only 1 day century came But if u look at semi final, clearly it was deliberate on the part of Shastri n Gavaskar to make India lose. Just look at the video of the match and any cricket lover will make out what actually had happened. But no probe, no media cry. Nothing.

It wasn't EG wicket but Sri Lanka was in peak form from beginning of the World Cup. batting first would not have made much difference as India batting was exposed multiple times with Sachin wicket fall. Don't forget Sri Lanka won World Cup batting second in final. In the end We lost to the best team of the World Cup.
In fact India had much better chance of winning World Cup in 1987 . Gooch batting against our spin attack took the game away from us. We did bat well but in the end fell short by few runs as we kept losing wickets for bad deliveries.

My father was a big cricket fan and Azhar fan because he was from poor family but achieved greatness with his hardwork hence he felt close to him and told stories of his struggles to us. But after Azhar was convicted of match fixing he hated Indian cricket team and specially Azharuddin because he felt cheated but I had chosen my Hero and become a die hard fan of Dada. He never watched Cricket match because of Azhar....Hence I had never got any respect for Nayan Mongia, Manoj Prabhakar, Ajay Jadeja and specially for Azharuddin... Because he broke my father's trust on him.

Whenever India won it was a great victory, whenever India lost the match was fixed. For instance no one will ever say that India vs Pakistan Q/F in 1996 was fixed.

This was definitely NOT Match fixing! The Sri Lankan team played magnificently under Arjuna. Remember Sri Lanka scored a world record 952/6d against the same Indian team in Sri Lanka in 1997 August 2nd. Jayasuriya scored a 300 plus. Sangakkara's batting average for more than 12,000 runs was 57.4. Higher than ANY Indian batsman, with 11 double centuries , only next to Bradman with 12. We also had the world's greatest bowler Murali with 800 wickets. Dont underrate Sri Lanka. We entered THREE ODI World cup finals, 2011, 2007, and won in 1996. We beat South Africa in South Africa 2-0 , Feb 2019. NO Asian team has ever beaten South Africa in test cricket on their turf.
