While I am still not that old, and was only a small child when this movie was released, this song still invokes feelings of loss over a misspent youth. I regret not what did, but what I did not do: Deeds never done, risks never taken, dreams never chased, women never loved. Around new year's eve 1984, one of the major tv networks played a show called, Playback '84. My family didn't have cable, so anything that showed music videos was an absolute treat! I recorded the whole tv show on my fisher-price tape recorder. They played this video, and became OBSESSED over this song. Amazing! I wish they still made movies and music like this. Truly one of the most under rated films and songs of all time. The 80's left us this beautiful music, thanks.
Jim Steinman packs more lyrics in a short space, sung at an intensity matched by no other song writer. Pure magic. One of Meatloaf's interviews he was asked if he could keep up with the lyrics or told just keep going if he couldn't and pick up what he could. Meat had no problem, It takes a special singer to stand tall and not miss a word in a Steinman song, but when you get that match, you get an outstanding performance. Meatloaf and Holly Sherwood were born for Steinman's brand of music. Is Steinman's style recognizable? Yes. Is it all the same? Not in my mind, but I would be hard pressed to name a Jim Steinman song I don't like.
Mr.Rumph I agree Steinman is a great writer just look at Meat Loaf for that little fact , however the production of this song is what in my opinion makes it. I believe Holly Sherwood(the actual voice in case some don't know) said they used something like 72 vocal tracks for this song to create a wall of sound. Absolutely brilliant in my humble opinion.
Is fair to say that the composer behind this magical song is Jim Steinman, one of the most important and sadly unkown figures of modern Rock. From his pen and imagination full genders of Rock developed after years to come, as Gothic, Symphonic Metal and has been inspiration of may bands that admire his genious!!! Hurray for Jim!!!!

The music was so great in the mid 1980’s that songs as great as this one were passed over and forgotten. Keep searching the deep cuts of 83-85, not just the songs you remember, and you will find more great music.
@Tiddybeth, I couldn't agree more about your statement regarding Jim Steinman. It took me years to learn that the lead singers to this song was Holly Sherwood (Wondergap) and Laurie Sargent (Face to Face). The credit on the soundtrack was listed as "Fire Inc." only. Really? I wanted to know who the singer(s) with the powerful voice(s) on this song was/were... well, I finally did and I wasn't disappointed. These ladies can SANG!

Many people mistakenly believed that the bar dancer at 'Torchie's', Marine Jahan, was a man. However, I never shared that view, as I always found her too attractive to be a man. The Blasters, known for their song 'One Bad Stud', are indeed a genuine band. Marine Jahan is also recognized for her role as a dance double for Jennifer Beals in the 1983 movie 'Flashdance'. Nowhere Fast. The moment she dashes onto the stage always sends shivers down my spine. Ex ADF
I was a crewmember aboard USS Midway CV-41, homeported in Yokosuka Japan from 1980-1987. We were in port, I lived on base and went to A-33 for a VHS tape for our Hiachi VHS player recorder. A movie< Streets of Fire was playing on a projection TV in the building. 2 hours later I got home with the tape and my wife asks, where the hell were you? I told her and it has been one of my favorite movies ever since. Go visit Midway, she is a museum in San Diego.
The fact that this is considered a "Cult Classic" is beyond me. This is one of the most artistic, intersting, creative motion pictures EVER. I do agree that it is not a musical. Most of the singing takes place as performances within the music framework -- pure genius. Moreover, the rest of the soundtrack is unmatched (my favorite non-Steinman song is Laurie Sargent's take on Stevie Nicks song "Sorcerer", but all are excellent). This movie should be on the teaching list of every film school in the country!
I was an 80's kid, and I'm still so thankful to have been an early teen when THE best movies, music, and gadgets were introduced. I remember watching this on HBO back in the day when it first came out it seemed to remain a mainstay on that channel for a very long time, so therefore I would watch it over and again every few months and of course got burnt out, BUT...to this day I own it on DVD and will go back and watch it every couple of years and its always just as good, and the same goes with another HBO mainstay from the 80s..."King of the mountain" with Harry Hamlin and Dennis Hopper...BAD ASS movie!
Is there a more unmistakable songwriter in the world than Jim Steinman? This song (while awesome) is a 99% rewrite of Bonnie Tyler's "Holding On For A Hero" and "Total Eclipse of the Heart," and about a half-dozen Meat Loaf songs. Want melodrama? Want to flick your Bic in the night? Get you some Jim Steinman. :)
When I first heard it, and Nowwhere Fast, I knew it was Jim's handiwork - unmistakable, as you said - I didn't even need to read the cover. I just knew it had to be Jim.
crooked degenerate society like America was and is serve propaganda to eastern countries who was without any crimes in those time how Molotov cocktails , hammer in to head , knife in the stomach is the way to be young and free . lol that was 80s. in those times USA have and had something to rob and today there is no more countries to rob without stepping on " Russian foot " so they are so nostalgic about long lost times when they live good on misery of robbed nations . pathetic
Rode my motorcycle in to town on a summer night in Halmstad on the Swedish west coast, to see it in the movie theatre. Still one of my favourite films of all time. ❤
In winter of '85 I took four days off from the army to come home to watch this masterpiece in real old cinema. After all those years I am sitting in front of tv, waiting for the same unique and incomparable last song. So naive, so funny, Michael Pare is really... but it' s the first Dafoe's role and Ellen is so beautiful, and crazy Sorrels...And above all this SPEEDFIRE is the anthem of our generation, which is just about to start and it's GONNA BE OVER BEFORE YOU KNOW IT'S BEGAN! ETERNAL!
The evolution- the modern musical... back then. What it Meant to be Young- is what IT WILL BE to those for whom it will Always mean, no matter their age ... to be Young.

Mr Steinman's masterpiece....He should be proud
Diane Lane was so beautiful and talented in this movie, it's been so long since I watched, I need to watch it again.
Diane Lane...To this day, beautiful as ever...
Eternal Beauty 💘

Me: Age 62
멋진음악
80’s music was the best. I remember watching all these movies with my mom.😢God rest her soul.
Yup...one of the great songs of the 80s!
best song
One of my favorite movies ever, partly for the soundtrack
I was obsessed with the soundtrack as a kid. Brings back memories of blasting this on my walkman
18-year-old Diane Lane was a gem. Too fucking gorgeous for mere words, man.
Yes, she really is.. My first thought at seeing this video was "Jesus, Holly Sherwood was hot." Come to find out it was a young Diane Lane lol.
Here here.
Query her name her Nate, she hasn't lost it, hardly aged a day!!
True. I was so in love with her. And now, she's Superman's mom.
Nate Broadus love that
Jim Steinman can write man. All of his stuff is not just good. Really really good. Filled with feeling.
jim steinman is awesome. used to compile all his songs into one CD and listened to them on road trips
Fire Inc. should have been SO much bigger. This is so good and so unbelievably 80s
one of thegreatist movies of the 80's
Is fair to say that the composer behind this magical song is Jim Steinman, one of the most important and sadly unkown figures of modern Rock. From his pen and imagination full genders of Rock developed after years to come, as Gothic, Symphonic Metal and has been inspiration of may bands that admire his genious!!! Hurray for Jim!!!!
I've got a dream 'bout an angel on the beach
And the perfect waves are starting to come
His hair is flying out in ribbons of gold
And his touch has got the power to stun
I've got a dream 'bout an angel in the forest
Enchanted by the edge of a lake
His body's flowing in the jewels of light
And the earth below him's starting to shake
But I don't see any angels in the city
I don't hear any holy choirs sing
And if I can't get an angel
I can still get a boy
And a boy'd be the next best thing
The next best thing to an angel
A boy'd be the next best thing
I've got a dream 'bout a boy in a castle
And he's dancing like a cat on the stairs
He's got the fire of a prince in his eyes
And the thunder of a drum in his ears
I've got a dream 'bout a boy on a star
Looking down upon the realm of the world
He's there all alone and dreaming of someone like me
I'm not an angel but at least I'm a girl
I've got a dream when the darkness is over
We'll be lying in the rays of the sun
But it's only a dream and tonight is for real
You'll never know what it means
But you'll know how it feels
It's gonna be over (over)
Before you know it's begun
(Before you know it's begun)
It's all we really got tonight
Stop your crying hold on (tonight)
Before you know it it's gone (tonight)
Tonight is what it means to be young
Tonight is what it means to be young
Let the rebels begin
Let the fire be started
We're dancing for the restless and the broken-hearted
Let the rebels begin
Let the fire be started
We're dancing for the desperate and the broken-hearted
Let the rebels begin (Tonight is what it means to be young)
Let the fire be started (Before you know it it's gone)
We're dancing for the restless and the broken-hearted
Let the rebels begin
Let the fire be started
We're dancing for the desperate and the broken-hearted
Say a prayer in the darkness for the magic to come
No matter what it seams
Tonight is what it means to be young
Before you know it it's gone
Tonight is what it means to be young
Before you know it it's gone
I've got a dream when the darkness is over
We'll be lying in the rays of the sun
But it's only a dream and tonight is for real
You'll never know what it means
But you'll know how it feels
It's gonna be over (over)
Before you know it's begun
It's all we really got tonight
Stop your cryin' hold on (tonight)
Before you know it it's gone (tonight)
Tonight is what it means to be young
Tonight is what it means to be young
The things they say
And then the things they do
Nothin's gonna stop us if our dream is true
Jules Love Let the “revels” begin, not rebels
I saw this movie at the age of 18, now i am 58 and i love it so much, also the vhs, cd and mc and vinyl is mine. I miss this time sooo hard. Thanks for the memories
this movie and this song and other songs of this movie is my childhood...... great movie incredible soundtrack let me back 30 years ago to my child time.......
The music was so great in the mid 1980’s that songs as great as this one were passed over and forgotten. Keep searching the deep cuts of 83-85, not just the songs you remember, and you will find more great music.
Uma nostalgia incrível essa explosão ❤😢 outubro de 2024 alguém mais???
Very stylish 80's cinema. Stunning visuals. Powerful... inspiring lyrics. Epic and blissful times.
Diane Lane is probably one of the most beautiful actresses of all time. So goddamn beautiful in her prime.
Michael Paré, Diane Lane, Amy Madigan and Rick Moranis. What a cast. What an adventure. Still one of my all-time favorites. Thanks, Walter Hill.
These ladies can SANG!
when i saw the movie i saw laurie sargent (face to face) when i bought the soundtrack i did see another name probably holly sherwood.
Great job on the video!! just got done watching the movie for about the one hundredth time it never gets old, neither do the songs..what a classic movie. thanks for making this video
This the movie that turned many boys and man into the beautiful and inimitable Diane Lane.
What a great movie this is. I can't believe it didn't do well at the theaters. Michael Pare deserves to be right up there with the Brad Pitts, Tom Cruise's and so forth.
I dont know here but in my country I think did well in the teather
Adam's Co. remember .. it was a time before irony >= )
After I watched MP in this I was sure he was the next big thing! I wonder what happened…
My daughter and I loved this movie. She was wild about this song. Nice to see HD and the song and all the scenes. Thanks!!
nice..
Nowhere Fast - Streets of Fire
I loved too
Call me creepy but I have been watching and listening to this video every night before I go to bed, it inspires me so much & it brings me so much memories, it makes me feel young! Btw there are no words to describe Diane Lane she's just awesome!!!
***** and gorgeous
Juan Colón So true bro!
***** your not creepy i to long for the past best times of our lives, i have a habit of listening to the song alphaville_ forever young official video call me sentimental but we all have a missing of the past ,but your right makes us feel young again .
James mullin sr Thanks, I also love that song!
***** She was gorgeous and Michael Pare was the perfect hunk. I loved this movie in '84 after graduating college, and still watch it today. I'm glad I'm not the only one. It's sweet and nostalgic.
The ultimate date movie, action music romance and a freaking pick-axe fight.
Excellent point!
Sledgehammers. Definitely sledgehammers. But you are so right! This is drive-thru gold.
I can get all the picture of the story just by watching this PV… So simple and straight to the point of our stereotype image of ideal hero!!!
yes indeed, after >30yrs and many more coming with horrendus graphics effects..... and still nothing near or even beat this epic musical, entertaining Streets Of Fire!
its an Epic..... the sets, costumes, and even dialogues were so 'into' the "streets"
I always thought there could be a part 2 or even a remake..... its truly a memorable piece from Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young..............
80's was a Good Times much simpler times it was all about having fun.
We were young!!!
_Ladies and Gentlemen, Fabulous Diane Lane._
+trha2222 was that really her singing? That is impressive--I didn't know she sang, too.
... it isn't her singing. I am just a big fan of her, and my comment above was a play on the title of an earlier film she also lip-synced in.
+Rand Sollie Holly Sherwood on vocals
+Rand Sollie The song is by Fire Inc. ;-)
+ᒍᗩᗰᕮᔕ ᑭᗩᗯᔕOᑎ
Ladies & Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains!
Diane Lane is eternally beautiful...we began together early ...today we walk among legend...
Streets of Fire, Eddie & the Cruisers and The Outsiders. That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!
+dizzotizzo69 the three greatest movies EVER :)
+Jaki Gardiner dont forget about "point of impact".
+Maritzah Siarvanaux That woman who's singing on stage I feel very very bad for her because this past March 25th on a good Friday easter she just lost her kryptonian alien son who sacrificed his life defeating Doomsday just for humanity's sake
+Jeahav Valentin neva saw da movie u fuckin a. rab
Jeahav Valentin what a dummy
behold what used to be the power of music.
Love this movie, the soundtrack and Michael Pare back then, meow!
IMO the most underrated movie of the 1980's.
Amazing soundtrack, a good film, beautiful Diane Lane starting to be a great star and singing like Bonnie Tyler or even better, and Michael Pare more handsome than ever.....
The best rock musical there is, shivers going down my spine everytime I watch this!
Diane Lane was a stone-cold, drop-dead knock out ! and Holly Sherwood's voice was perfect. this film is a gem, way ahead of it's time. -------------Wolfsky9, 69 y/o
According to Wikipedia, Holly Sherwood did vocal backing and Face to Face's Laurie Sargent was lead singer for both songs.
Ex ADF
When I tried to explain to my kids how smoking hot Superman's mom used to be i showed them this video.
😅
Boa guerreiro 😂
Diane Lane is absolute perfection in that red dress!!! And that movie is just fantastic!!!
One of the best unknown movies ever.
Every time I recommend this movie to someone who has never seen it they come back and say” how have I never seen this before”?
I was a crewmember aboard USS Midway CV-41, homeported in Yokosuka Japan from 1980-1987. We were in port, I lived on base and went to A-33 for a VHS tape for our Hiachi VHS player recorder. A movie< Streets of Fire was playing on a projection TV in the building. 2 hours later I got home with the tape and my wife asks, where the hell were you? I told her and it has been one of my favorite movies ever since. Go visit Midway, she is a museum in San Diego.
不朽の名作
This movie was produced in 1984 and I was born in 1985 😁 amazing effect and good story ❤❤ Golden memories ❤❤
My youth! Diane Lane is beautiful! Amazing! ゾクゾクする!
Amo essa musica
The fact that this is considered a "Cult Classic" is beyond me. This is one of the most artistic, intersting, creative motion pictures EVER.
I do agree that it is not a musical. Most of the singing takes place as performances within the music framework -- pure genius. Moreover,
the rest of the soundtrack is unmatched (my favorite non-Steinman song is Laurie Sargent's take on Stevie Nicks song "Sorcerer", but all are
excellent).
This movie should be on the teaching list of every film school in the country!
October 2024?
9th Nov
Benjamin Duffy don't forget "It's All Coming Back to me Now"
Casey Strapp Yes! Great example. No matter who is singing, it's so obviously Jim. :)
When I first heard it, and Nowwhere Fast, I knew it was Jim's handiwork - unmistakable, as you said - I didn't even need to read the cover. I just knew it had to be Jim.
***** Before you go any further do ya love me?
I would do anything for you....but I won't do that. I mean c'mon. Jasus.
I had a crush on Diane lane when I saw that movie 40 years ago. One of my favorites movies, hope dont make a remake on this one.
Another Time Another Place - Streets of Fire
+Andy Cruise Classic Andy Classic...
Yeah... A simpler time and a better place.
crooked degenerate society like America was and is serve propaganda to eastern countries who was without any crimes in those time how Molotov cocktails , hammer in to head , knife in the stomach is the way to be young and free . lol that was 80s. in those times USA have and had something to rob and today there is no more countries to rob without stepping on " Russian foot " so they are so nostalgic about long lost times when they live good on misery of robbed nations . pathetic
Rode my motorcycle in to town on a summer night in Halmstad on the Swedish west coast, to see it in the movie theatre. Still one of my favourite films of all time. ❤
Man....I'd give my soul to be young again....
Beautiful! I dont see any angels in the city. Me too. Got the soundtrack just for this song. Great memories.
32 years later I still love you, Diane!
She's got a beautiful voice. Still love this after all these years ❤
カッコイイー!映画も最高だったけど曲は史上最強の名曲!素晴らしい!アップ蟻10!
I was just a kid when i saw this movie for the first time, but still today it's one of my top 10 movies ever...and the soundtrack is my no.1.... Great video
a wonderful song, love it. Never gets old.
