    Such a beautiful woman. A little 80s breakdance move in her routine. The 80s. What an amazing decade to be alive. I was in high school from 80 to 84. Big hair, video game parlors, Van Halen, and Flashdance! And, no mobile phones! Hellz yeah! 😎🤟

      I'm a 80s/90s kid that was quick on both the Internet and mobilephones... These days being middle aged looking back on my live and the world, both was/are a scourge.
      On another 80s video someone said UA-cam is a timemachine because we can all go back to a time when it was really good by watching/listening to these videos. Sounds like a sound advise😄

    This scene, no matter how many times I watch, always brings tears to my eyes. Talk about making someone feel something. To me, this scene is about coming alive. At one point I believe she forgets she's even auditioning. She's doing it for her, because she loves it, it's inside of her. The break down part cracks me up but her moves right after that is this energy of "I'm going to dance whether I get in this or not! This is who I am, this is ME!" Tears every single time. What a masterpiece.

The leap through the air was actually done by a gymnast and the rest of it was done by the same dancer who did most of the moves in the Maniac scene, Marine Jahan. For those of us who remember those times, break dancing was not yet a national thing. This film kind of put it in front of the nation at large - just that little spin she did was something most had never seen before and it blew people's minds. People began asking, "What was that thing she did? How did she do that?" It was the film everyone was recommending back then as a must see.

      To be fair, Michael Jackson introduced break dancing to the world when he moonwalked on national television around the same time in 1983. I was 13, living in a very white suburb outside of Toronto and by the end of the summer kids were dragging around ghetto blasters and carboard to have dance offs all over the place - it was hilarious. As young teenage boys in the pre-internet age, we went to see this movie for something else entirely!

Sure, the story and the acting wasn't all that great, especially by Jennifer Beals but I don't think it was meant to be. Besides, it her first acting gig.
      Adrian Lyne I thought did a good job with the directing considering what he had with the script. But it was the dancing and the music that made the movie.

    Everyone talking about Irene Cara, yes, beautiful music, but let’s no forget about this spectacular performance by Jennifer Beals and Marine Jahan 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😍

      But without the perfect soundtrack there would have been no movie. Actresses and dancers are dime a dozen. The perfect song is rare.

      How can you be 82 if you saw this movie when you were 18?

    • @sthomaschannel
      @sthomaschannel 7 місяців тому +3

      I can sympathize with your feeling. But it doesn't add up. This movie came out in 1984. Even if you saw this in 1984 at 18, you would be 58, not 82. Your children might have gone to this movie with their dates.
      Are you sure that was this Movie? It must be a movie that came out in 1960.
      Closest to this is the West Side story that came out in 1961

    I can watch this over and over and never gets old. This is the panicle of youth, and dreams come true. Even though my dreams didn’t come true, I still am cheering - for everyone else who still, and don’t know, that they can do do it🎉!!!!

    Lucy Lee Flippin contributed more to this scene than she gets credit for. Her reactions added so many layers of emotion. 💜

    You do know that the young woman in that still is not Jennifer Beals. She is the French double they hired to do the difficult dance steps and jumps. She never received any credit, whatsoever. Not a happy camper over that.
