  • This tip applies to Honda Civic and other Honda or Acura manual transmission vehicles (probably other brands too). This car is my 1993 Civic DX Hatchback.
I was doing a clutch job and learned this new trick from VHB Engines on UA-cam - so I thought I'd do a condensed version to help you get the job quick.
Here's the video I learned this from:

My pin fell off while driving 2 years ago. I lifted the car on the side of the road and noticed that the shift linkage had disconnected. I was able to put it 4th gear without the pin in, and drove back home in that same gear all the way. Once I got home, your video helped me assess the situation, understand the problem and fix it. Since then, I inspect the pin every oil change, making sure it stays in place. Thanks a bunch man.

    • @unclechunky4615

@@Fentfiend12 Yes. The mechanism that manages the shifter positions is within the transmission, so once the shifter shaft is linked to the transmission thanks to the pin, the shifter will move according to what the mechanism within the transmission allows it to. Hope this helped.

I used a Phillips head screwdriver and it did the trick but it was a lot of pounding before it broke loose, I’m putting it back in now; decided to try and stick it in the freezer and see if it’ll shrink and make going back in a little easier lol, we shall see... It worked out amazingly, I’m having a harder time with the clamp now than I did with the roll pin lol.

mine wont even start in the hole really thought about just swapping it for a bolt and nut and calling it quits but ive thought about the freezer trick going to go ahead and throw it in the freezer hopefully it works

It’s worth a shot it’s just such a tight space and awkward angle to work if you don’t have a lift but it’ll eventually go back in, good luck.

Well just got mine out. I used a 6mm bolt from a lawn chair. Bought a 2.5 lb mini sledgehammer. I braced the black bar with small piece of 2x4 wood, to frame of the car. Less chance of damage/ vibration well.

If anyone is looking for a bolt to use to knock it out, take out one of the 4 bolts for the ac compressor and use it. Just did it at the junk yard and didn't ruin the bolt
