I find it odd they didn't give Phoenix's heals to Carbuncle instead, and/or make Physick change to a Carbuncle heal that actually does something. They could have also just made Carby range attack like an offensive Scholar Fairy~ I mean they kinda already did that with Bahamut.

I feel like all white mage mains feel a bit salty we lost the druid-like aspects the further away from conjurer we got. Conjurer, itself, however, is a vestigial leftover from the original job system of 1.0 that was purpose built to be unique from the classic FF job systems. At this point, it feels like the same weird upgrade as Bard felt to Archer.

If they went more lore base. The Reaper Job should have been more of an offshoot of the Dark Knight. Even in the lore they made. Dark Knight used to use scythes and was more DPS base. It would have been an interesting story to play into the Dark Knight's story. Though no. They kept it separate.

Back when I started playing (2020) I actually stopped leveling White Mage when I learned they stopped using elemental magic at high level. Probably the worst designed job to me visually/logically because of that. IMO Holy shouldn't be spammable (also needs 1st effect toned down), Waterga should be their AoE spam and Stone/Aero should either remain at a high level or become Quake/Tornado. I would adore the job then. If they ever add Geomancer it'd basically be what WHM should have been. At this point it's among the 6 I haven't maxed yet.
At least Summoner has cool Wind and Earth magic now and is my main currently. Need someone to revive water magic attacks though other than BLU XD Unless they gimme Leviathan.

With the events of Endwalker, I’m still hoping for some more garlean magitech jobs down the line. Gunhammers and Garlean Gunblades are now up for learning (and could reference real life use of war time weapons converted to peace time tools, or in this case converting weapons of war to weapons of adventure). Continuing the path of adapting enemy stuff, learning to master Ascian magics could be a possibility.

at some point, adding new jobs like this won't be as exciting. i'm sure getting ninja as a tenth job in ARR was amazing, but imagine the job pool starts reaching 30. what kind of effect would having another two have? plus, how new jobs unlock is totally unlike how the base classes work, with level sync decreasing a job's cohesion and high unlock level decreasing its general accessibility. something will need to change eventually. not just with job design, but with much of the game's foundation in regards to leveling, quests, and job incorporation, in order to support ten more years of expansions. maybe this would even mean something similar to FFXI's subjob system, not adding new jobs, but compounding current ones in some way.

The one thing I’m missing most from Summoner of old was their abilities relating to DoTs. Mind you, I’m completely find with them being removed from Summoner for thematic purposes, but talking about reintroducing older job abilities into different/new jobs, I’m REALLY hoping they bring back that with a new DoT mage of some kind. I’ve seen people throw around Time Mage for that, but me being the FFT fan boy I am, I’d love if they brought in Arithmetician/Calculator for that. Consider it as the algebraic counterpart to Arcanist’s geometry. A hard lean into the concepts behind aetherical efficiency rather than giving shape and form to aether.

      Green Mage. :)
FFXIV can go just about anywhere with Jobs at this point considering SGE, but Green Magic is kind of the "status effect" magic, and would make sense for things like Poison, Miasma, and Bio. Enfeebling magics. Throw in a touch of FF13's Sabateur, but just realize that FFXIV doesn't allow status effects on bosses, so "enfeebling" magic envisioned as various DoTs (sapping the enemy's vitality different ways and weaving those magics together) would probably work well enough.
Not to mention it would leave Time Mage and Arithmetician for builds that actually more reflect their class fantasy. Or...well, never being implemented since FFXIV has a rigid trinity and doesn't really have room for things like buffing mages. :(

That sounds pretty interesting actually, though I can’t think of a separate new job for it. But I played FF11 for many years and it was never properly balanced in my opinion. Basically what started out as a support ability was discovered to make Ninja a full blown tank and thus that was exactly what happened to it. Casting a spell that created shadows that completely took a hit once instead of the player and thus negating the damage for several attacks. This was exploited by the players to turn it into a tank.
Red mages and Bards became the most important and valued for any kind of party because they had a couple of unique spells that were essential. It was never fair or balanced.

The thought about jobs that has been aching me for the longest time is how underused the off-hand slot is - it feels like something that was only coded in for Paladin's shields. So I'd be fine with less jobs in the future if they could give more optional sidearms that reflect the jobs that do exist (whips for summoners, extra guns or even gadgets for machinist, short spears for Dragoons etc.). Lets say these weapons when equipped give access to combo continuation actions or maybe even utility, all of this once again depending on the type of job. It could even be a simple solution to increasing the skill ceiling of healers while still keeping the skill floor exactly where it is if they decide these actions are going to be universally in their case OGCDs. No risk of missing a window, just a bit of an enhancement to what your doing in terms of DPS action. I'd say even give those actions secondary and useful effects when done - positionals being the first thought but it could differ depending on what the devs think they should be able to mess with. Paladin would of course need to be given something new with it's shield and maybe something minor because sheltron spam is already pretty good - maybe do something new with shield bash or revert cover action to half it's former power. On a personal, and heads up uselessly hopeful, level I'd like to see something akin to a Templar (they can call it something else or treat it like "Sage"). Your a tank with a giant shield and greatspear. Your even more tanky than the Paladin. However, instead of a magic phase you gain points towards a "recompense" bar as you mitigate group or self damage that lets you do insane burst actions that are physical, pierce defense actions. Maybe you have a special group wide mitigation tool on a short OCGD called Rampart that helps fuel this. That's really just my attempt at creating something I'd like to play next because when I think tank my mind doesn't automatically go to Paladin as odd as it sounds, I think of old military battles where groups of men would form walls and ranks where the defense, and ultimately the victory, came to those who remained calm by their brother in arms - each man filling a segment of the line. Each soldier entrusting theirs and ensuring others safety through stalwart aggression. The job I envisioned is still far from that - and I don't think a bad*** normal archetype could exist in this game because it wouldn't be popular enough.

off hand used to be used for cnj and thm as well; they used to have shields off hand, and 1 handed wands in their main hand. Or, well, they can still do that, but the WHM and BLM job upgrades don't, so off hand is quickly obsolete for all but pld. • @mismismism

They have a lot set up that could be expanded on, Geomancy, time magic, the Azim Steppe sets up jobs like Psychic, Green Mage could easily come as a DPS off shoot of Scholar with their ties to disease and ailments that have been downplayed, Limsa has so much set up for something like Pirate or Corsair, the way Dancer works in lore could also set up Psychic or even something weird like Orator, Illusionist or Judge, influencing people's minds, feelings or dynamis to assert control over them or go the more Mesmer-y route with illusions and clones since Bard seems to be leaning into Archery more than the more mental influence route. There was even set up for Exorcist with both Gosetsu and the Chinese New Year event, or even a SMN/RPResque light aspected job since we've seen essentially, Sin Eaters be summoned in Amdapor much like the example or Voidsent being bound to statues, could be a cool set up for a kinda Puppetmaster job or something that leans fully into what they tried to half do with egis. I can't wait to see what new jobs they come up with because there is so much already set up to pull from to make very interesting jobs. I do hope for more difficult and/or weird jobs, not a fan of sub jobs or cross job abilities because I played back in the day when meta basically forced everyone to run the same things so it was more limiting ironically, because you never touched most of the stuff available if you did group content.

  • @PinkSkunkSleepy
    @PinkSkunkSleepy 2 роки тому +19

One of FFXIV's biggest limitations is its focus on DPS above all. Everything essentially being a DPS means less varied mechanics for other roles, and often ends up making those roles more boring. Once you know how to do it, maintaining enmity as a tank is extremely easy, and you almost never have to worry about positioning besides pointing whatever away from your party. Then it just turns into a DPS that faces backwards. Healing is something healers should try to do as little as possible, because the best healing is ending combat as quickly as possible. And while the ranged physical jobs do have some support utility, there can't ever be any dedicated support jobs(Time Mage, Green Mage, etc.) because it would disrupt raid composition. This limitation is extremely difficult to overcome because it's so integral to how the game is built, and would require probably several expansions of overhaul and tuning.

What I hope is that if we stop at level 99 next expansion, classic FF style, we then expand further into what we gain at lower levels since there's some gaps and growth concerns that are more prevalent than ever thanks to EW's job updates. Most of the new abilities we get have zero connection to the job quests that unlock them, anymore. Plenty of said abilities could easily be funneled into lower content to flesh out the experience for newcomers and veterans alike
Some more notable ones imo being (feel free to share your own):
NIN refreshing huton with its aoe combo before 52 and armor crush before 54
WHM with lilies and asylum before 52
DRK with dark missionary before 76 (great start with bringing stalwart soul down to 40 like the other tanks' aoe combos)
Which in turn opens up gaps in later leveling that now can be filled. A huge chunk of jobs have empty space at level 58 for no reason other than they lost something between SB and ShB's job changes. And now SMN has tons of free space to expand thanks to its huge rework. The sky's the limit, CBU3!

The balance between melee and ranged is one thing, but I'm surprised you didn't discuss the balance between each role to the other roles
    Tank - 4
    Healer - 4
Melee - 5 (split across 3 gear types)
    Ranged - 3
    Caster - 3
Looking at the numbers, it's clear that we're missing a fourth ranged, a fourth caster, and a sixth melee. To even better support this, their reasoning behind adding Reaper was that DRG has been the only job with maiming gear since ARR. But that also applies to Ninja with scouting, even though it shares accessories with ranged. They've never repeated a role through expansions, that cuts out melee and healer for 7.0. Now look back to previous expansions. ShB added a tank and a ranged. SB added a melee and a caster. Ranged and caster have three jobs in them. 7.0 will have been approximately four years since a ranged, six years since a caster. I'm putting my money on those roles if we get two jobs in 7.0. And then our sixth melee with scouting after that. No damn clue what will come beyond, since that'd break the lineup once more

We're already really melee heavy. A 6th melee would have it as a role having 50% more Jobs than any other role.
I know people want to break things down by armor types (e.g. scouting), though for the life of me, I've no idea why they haven't combined either Scouting and Striking or Scouting and Aiming at this point. If all the Ranged used Scouting - which makes sense for archers and machinists, honestly (and neither "Scouting" nor "Aiming" really makes sense for dancers) - the problem would go away. They already share right side gear.

I'll always have a candle lit for Beastmaster. As a full job, I could see it as a ranged physical job using throwing axes as primary, with a sort of Tamers' Bell accessory akin to the RDM's focus or the MCH's aetherotransformer. Since pet entities seem like a nightmare for game design, instead the BST might have a 'ranged' phase where they focus on weapon skills, and a 'command' phase where the pet is mechanically a tether between the player and the target represented by whatever companion is glam'd to facilitate other abilities. The pet doesn't 'exist' on the battlefield outside of appearance.
As a limited overworld job, Beastmaster would probably be the first step towards a fellowship/adventuring fellow system to sunset FFXIV down the line as it wanes in popularity. Charming is out of the question, but a jug pet system might let them take another crack at the Chocobo companion AI to make it more competent or customizable. Though, to what end I don't know, probably for another Eureka/Bozja realm where things just work differently. Or maybe even just fun options for Duty Trusts.
As a minigame/sidequest chain, I can see the New World or some other continent having an arena system where you assume control of a monster in a series of challenges like the Masked Carnivale.
I'll take just about anything so long as it means some version of the FFXI artifact armor makes it into the game. That's all I really want.

I’m hoping Necromancer gets in. Based on lore Necromancy itself is horrible BUT we know our friends spirits came to help us in our trip to Hydaelyn. So I was thinking possibly Meracydia may have a culture around rightfully laying the dead to rest by channeling the spirits of former good hearted warriors. Combine with other spells naturally shaped by their culture over there we would have MANY options to choose from depending on what it’s considered role-wise. It could channel shades from our memories and be a Necromancer in name only as well 🤔

Much more likely would be some sort of Voidmancer, seeing as Reaper already taps into a pact with a voidsent. A minion-based (at least in animation, sending out claws from voidgates or a gaping maw below a bunch of enemies?) caster, perhaps - or even a mix of that and Puppeteer, making a magical physical caster of sorts that attacks at range with their voidsent-inhabited puppets.

I think when I say I want new jobs, what I really mean is that I want new lvl 1-90+ questlines/experiences. In a game so rigorously gated by story, the jobs added in each expansion starting at higher and higher base levels made them feel more and more shallow, regardless of abilities. There just isn't enough of the job woven into the lore of the world, no NPCs to follow us through the game, or philosophies that change as the regions and scope of power changes. And I know for certain I won't get anything close to that from this game anymore, they made that abundantly clear with the workflow of developing the role quests in Shadowbringers and Endwalker. I'm mostly fine with that.

Pirates and pistols are in the game for a long time. A pirate/privateer job could be a melee version of redmage where you would be melee first to build up some resource, then go ranged before jumping back in to melee. The ranged phase could be pistol shots for single target and bombs for aoe. Basically a non magical reverse red mage. Weapons would be scimitar/saber and pistol.

I have to say I'm worried about the oversimplification of jobs. If they want every job to look, play and feel unique, then removing the flavor of those jobs seems like a really damaging move.
I recently started to play healers and tried out the different options. How disappointed I was when I found out that astrologian's cards all had the same effect, or when I found out that Eos and Selene don't do anything different from one another, but that they kept the two buttons anyway. If they're both still in the game for visual preference only, make it a /petglamour.
I know that players have optimized the fun out of those creative choices and that the dev team prefers not to waste time and resources on things people won't ever use, but I really don't want FFXIV to become like WoW : a cold numbers obsessed MMO, balanced for the sake of balance, with a fun police here to patch every fun and emergent mechanic out of existence. Not saying that it is that, but I've seen it happen once, and it was enough.

One thing that would have been an interesting tidbit to mention is that in the beginning, people needed to get to a certain level in 2 basic jobs (I think it was 30 primary and 15 secondary) in order to unlock advanced jobs. For instance, you needed Conjurer 15 and Gladiator 30 to unlock Paladin (if I remember correctly) and Black Mage required Thaumaturge 30 and Archer 15. They got rid of that requirement a long time ago, but I always thought it was an interesting mechanic.

As far as I know, it only came up as an FF job in the now defunct Mobius FF, so it's relation to FF is thin at best. Seeing as Summoner lost its DoT tools in EW and how you referenced newer jobs receiving the removed skills of old jobs, I was thinking Occultist could be a DoT/Debuff oriented job, whose playstyle revolved around debuffing enemies and then capitalizing on damage multipliers related to the number of debuffs on the enemy. Doesn't really have much to do with how the job originally worked on Mobius, its really grasping at straws to even consider that YoshiP will allow DoTs to be that relevant again, but hey, one can dream.

Imagine a MNK playing with a DRG’s staff, or a SAM using a gunblade with Sen cartridges. And this is just using the system in place with no additional weapon assets being made. I feel like a lot of jobs could get some new alternate weapons that change some of what the job focuses on. Give AST a bell and let them be Geomancers. • @mattp994
    @mattp994 2 роки тому +1

I don't think that keeping ranged and melee only one job apart was a specific, conscious choice. I think they have various paradigms of job classification to work around, in order to justify adding a certain role at any given time. There's the Ranged/Melee classification for sure, then there's the Tank/Healer/Melee/Ranged classification, then the Tank/Healer/Melee/Phys.Ranged/Magic.Ranged classification, then there's the Fending/Healing/Striking/Slaying/Scouting/Aiming/Casting classification. When the added Reaper for example, it wasn't just to balance out melee/ranged, but to add another role to the Slaying category.
There's also the 'how long since a given role last got a new job' question, and that puts Magical Ranged squarely in the crosshairs. There's also a Scouting melee job, but we've just had a melee dps in EW...
So I'm expecting one job at a time form now on, 7.0 gives us a magic ranged, while 8.0 gives us our scouting melee.

Thank you for an interesting and informative presentation. There is one additional pattern in the game's job evolution which I was surprised you didn't cover. Specifically, no expansion has ever included a new job in the same slot as the one just before it. For shorthand I'm going to use T, H, M, C and R for Tank, Healer, Melee, Caster and Ranged Physical jobs. Now look at the releases by expansion: Heavensward-T, H, P; Stormblood- C, M; Shadowbringers-T, R; Endwalker-H, M. No repeats, which means the available slots for 7.0 are T, C and R. Given the melee/ranged balance pointed out in the video C+R is out, leaving T+C or T+R. Since the last caster was in Stormblood I'd put my money on T+C. Both slots have huge opportunities for innovation. Consider shape shifting as a theme, similar to the Reaper's shroud ability. I don't expect FF14 to have bear tanks, but Vauthry's transformation into Innocence might work. Perhaps a gift from one of the twelve? Something like the Messmer tank in Guild Wars 2, or the Sons of St. Coinach discovering allagan secrets of power suits would be interesting. For casters magic can do whatever you want it to do. A missing theme in FF14 is the dark magic user, such as Necromancer or Warlock. The Black Mage back story leans that way but the job is an elementalist using fire and ice, not death magic, void magic or demon magic. Just ideas to dream about. Happy dreaming all!

It is the one real fault that I have with the game and that is that they are so focused on balance between the jobs that every person that plays a certain job has to play the same basic way. this is why they will never make blue mage a normal job as it has these freedoms that I love so much, and it sucks so much as blur mage is my all time favorite FF job.

You know... I feel like at one point our WoL should be able to create their own job, with all the experience, skill and power they have.
So... I kinda want a limited job based on that concept. Not sure what concept exactly we could use since Onion Knight is already taken by the Allagans though.
Other than that, I think having more limited Jobs tied to the lore would be really cool.

    Things I'd like to see:
A non-MP using healer, much similar to Sage where it's a combat focused healer, but for a Mad Chemist you'd be cooking up different potions to bolster buffs and debuffs and healing but having longer cooldowns.
A reverse Red Mage style job, in which you'd be doing melee combat to then have a ranged dps burst. Something like a Corsair or Adventurer to have a whip, buckler sword, and a small pistol. This would also be a scouting gear job so that Ninja wouldn't be alone.
Green Mage or Sorcerer/Sorceress magic dps that applies tons of debuffs for support but can handle themselves. Could have a unique LB to bring in Rinoa's Angel Wings to boost the parties attacks into a beserk state.
Berserker tank, using dual hand axes, this tank would be a high risk/reward job that would inflict debuffs or damage to self to gain others. It'd have less mitigation than other tanks, but at the bonus of dealing more damage.
Lastly, a melee dps Spellblade/Rune Knight, much like the Tyrant job in Stranger of Paradise, they'd imbue their sword or weapon with magic that would change the moveset and animations. Fira adds more damage, Thundara adds speed to everything, etc.

    Mainly spit balling ideas:
I think im in the; "Stick with and expand on the current system camp."
Honestly would love if they brought subclasses or a variant to the game. It was there early on, but dropped.
Bring it to 14, and really flesh out the jobs.
    Like;
Warrior could embrace more of the inner beast and gain Berserker traits
Ninja could double down on its more Rougish traits and become Thief
White Mage or Astrolgian could focus on earth magic and Geomancer
Something akin to D&D, the main class and its variants. Introduce spins and new ideas for the same role
    Give the player customization.
    Almost all the NPCs we interact with show this;
Thancred is a Rouge and retains high level sneak skills, along with his Fighter/Gladiator style tanking
Yshtola is able to use geomancy of early Conjurer and mix in high level Black Mage skills
Urianger is able to use unique almost time mage like skills (and animations) as Astrologian
If nothing else it could be a new limited job, that lets you mix and match skills. Be the Melee to Blue Mages range.
Along with; a lot of 1.0 was thrown out, when i think some of it could still work if edited. Party buffs, utility between jobs, etc. Have fun again, because it is starting to become apparent how... robotic(?) it all is.
    I agree on the digs at the meta scene. It worries me. When i see people discuss my mind wanders to;
"the jobs are losing their unique qualities"
well yes, cuz otherwise everyone would focus on what its lacking and you get a needlessly hostile comp/meta scene, like so many games before an after. AST lost their cards due to the higher dps
Bard and Dragoon use to share a buff, that would make them just stronger than the other options.
Summoner lost their pet due to everyone complaining about the pets ai.
I think i agree with others that a new engine would be a good choice, just on the premise of how action focused the devs are pushing the game. Along with a lot of the choices that result in some jobs losing their main gimmicks

I’d love to see a FFXIV version of combat trees. It’s an old consent so I’d hope they make it fresh somehow but I want more complex RPG decisions to make. I would love for there to be a noticeable difference in people who play the same job. That would give them at least one explanation where they don’t have to make a new job.

I am and always have been a Summoner main. We have suffered many atrocities: the loss of Egi-Tanking (the entire purpose of Titan-Egi), of our many DoT's, of Shadow Flare; the lack of additional summons (besides Bahamut and Phoenix; I'm meaning Leviathan, Ramuh--whose Egi has been around in his boss fight forever--and Shiva); the unreceived glamours for our Carbuncles besides replacing with existing Egis and vice versa, etc. But I think we still have room to grow (both mechanically and in lore). Personally, I'd like to see us finally unlock the other three of the original summons; it'd be nice to have a non-limited ranged class that has access to all six elements (Ninja has all six; I've checked), and as of Endwalker and the revelations about both our nature and of Primal Summoning, I'd say we no longer need to be limited to just the three.
As for new classes, I'd love it if we got a Tank that was linked to Arcanist as well, just to complete the set. Perhaps we could follow in Ysayle's footsteps and learn to channel Primals through ourselves to borrow their power on the front lines? Also, as you pointed out, they like to take old job mechanics and give them to new ones, so perhaps a new physical damage dealer that is a DoT specialist (they could get around the issue of "too many DoT's" by having it be that there's only one DoT on the target, but it gains stacks for each unique DoT attack used, and then a different attack "detonates" the stacks for high damage in exchange for DoT removal); it could be a melee who does it, but I think a physical ranged with--for instance--a Blowgun and various toxins would be cool. Lastly, it'd be nice if they added a physical class that uses a Hammer as their weapon, since as far as I know there is no (non-crafter) job in the game that uses Hammers at all, nor any glamours that are hammers. It could be a job that is opposite to Monk in that it has a slower GCD in exchange for higher potencies.
But these are simply my personal thoughts; there are tons of viable concepts still left to explore!
    Signed, a SMN main.

God what I would give to see the FFV Necromancer appear again in FF. It'd perfectly fit right into the game as well; it's NOT a pet class, but a dot, drain and debuff class, like a reverse casting Bard, who essentially give inverse buffs to the enemies and can stack and juggle tons of terrifying effects. We also don't have a class with a Knife, though we do have daggers, which was the Necro's main weapon, and would definitely fit into class fantasy with our journeys into the void as of 6.2 and onwards.

You know, I would love a Tank class that uses a Mech. Maybe its gameplay could be like revving an engine, slow start but gets faster over time. Also would be more on the mitigation side.
The story of this mech class could be about the difference between the Mechs and the Monks. A nice little opposition between strength in machinery and strength in the body.
Whatever the new classes maybe, I hope it's at least cool and fun to play.

I would actually welcome the idea of introducing sub-jobs to the game like FFXI. I once played as a Dragoon/Monk (Don't judge me). Some FF jobs I would love to see in XIV include Green Mage, Beastmaster, Puppet Master, and Corsair. I'm open to the idea of brand new jobs, but I wonder, after coming out with Gunbreaker, where FFVIII fans can be their version of Squall, Will these new ideas, these new jobs, be nothing more than taking a character concept from a previous FF game and warping it to be a job class? Will Terra's Esper transformation from FFVI morph into an Esper job? Tidus and Wakka Blitzball playing turn into a Blitzball job? (I'm still waiting for Blitzball to be introduced in XIV)! Or Cid's use of a mop in FFVII lead to a Janitor job? I have a suspicion that these new created jobs will be nothing more than taking specific character tropes from previous FF games and morphing them to Jobs like they did with Gunbreaker. FANSERVICE!! But that's just my thought on the matter.

    • @silvergrove8517

I think they did a good job with GNB. Of course the base idea came from Squall but I believe they integrated it enough. Since DRK already exist, I doubt they would try the same with Cloud for example, since we already have a job with greatswords.
I also doubt that they would do something as silly as some of the examples given.
I don't see a problem if they created something like an Ink Mage based on FF6 Rem since it's a pretty unique set of skills, but at the same time I doubt they would try to create a job entirely based on Terra's Trance since it's just a powered-up mage after all, or Celes' Runic ability.
What I can see them do with Trance is add it as a temporary buff for one of the Mages as a burst phase for example. And for Runic, add it as a oGCD tank role ability for mitigation. Those are just ideas that allows to make little winks to the classic titles without going all-out and making jobs out pretty simple but memorable abilities.

@@silvergrove8517 Yoshi P and his team did do a good job with GNB. They made it it's own thing, but still, at least for me, whenever I see a Gunbreaker in the game, all I can think is Squall. Not necessarily a bad thing, just my personal take. Funny thing was when I was typing out my comment, I thought about Cloud and whether or not if they would do a Soldier class, but I agree with you DRK with it's greatsword, it would be very redundant.
Granted the examples I gave about Terra's Esper form or Cid's mop use Was an exaggeration just to get my point across. (Blitzball however I still see as a legitimate future Ranged DPS option). I'll agree with you that Rem's Ink Mage abilities from VI would make for a very awesome job class concept in future expansions!
And your suggestion of using Runic, adding it as an oGCD tank role ability for mitigation, As a Paladin main in game, I LOVE the concept!

One cool way to use that would be in the next expansion since we'll likely cap at 99, you'd have a limited number of special soul stones (like the specialist crafter soul stones) that allows you to reach the symbolic 100.
Example: in 7.0 you get your White Mage to lvl 99 and get a special quest that once completed "replaces" your WHM soul stone with a Devout one and once equipped, you are now a lvl 100 Devout.

I'm still in my own weirdo corner hoping that level 100 (or 99) will be forever the max level in XIV, and instead of continually trying to tack on new things to existing jobs that already feel "complete" (outside of smaller adjustments or reworks if deemed absolutely necessary), they move that dev time to introducing 3 or more new jobs per expansion instead. I really don't feel like we need the obligatory 10 levels to get through every expansion release, and obviously the more jobs that are added to the game, the more effort is required to "update" a class to the new max level.

I think while it is good to completely make new jobs for the franchise as a whole, it would be stupid to neglect jobs that so many people want that previously existed in other games of the series. While I don't think Geomancer will be added to the game (for likely lore reasons aka, potential tempering) I do think something like the beast master could be added, even if it's a limited job like the BLU is. And I do think there is still MUCH more room to fill, for instance a Rune Knight could be the most magically based tank in the game, sure it doesn't have a huge history. But a lack of history makes it all the more flexible to create

They did mention they might add Beastmaster as a Limited Job (probably stealing a lot from old Summoner, and going crazy with it). They mentioned this a good while ago in a Live Letter or two, before they released Bozja Southern Front with a nod that there might be a hint at a future limited job in that area (which there are plenty, a few bosses in there are Beastmasters). I'm up for them making jobs they would have problems balancing as Limited Jobs which gives them way more freedom with it.
To me Limited Jobs are more like content anyway, you do it for the challenge (attempting to do the Morbol Mount or get all the BLU Achieves and Spells) , the uniqueness (learning spells of enemies and picking the right ones), and the content designed for it (Masked Carnivale, BLU Log).
Granted I wish BLU had more love, being able to solo PoTD/HoH with it would be fun(even if its not ranked or counted on leaderboards), maybe them having PvP skills (balanced obviously, all BLUs would have same PVP skills, maybe common/unique spells are picked), something people want to come back to if they don't do the weeklies.
Having Beatmaster have its own challenges (taming all the beasts), uniqueness (needing to tame beasts) and content (dunno, maybe an arena to fight or train your beasts?) makes it feel more like a content "limited" job to me.

Blitzer being based of Wakka is one I see alot of but you could also do Soldier and base it off Cloud, Zack, Sephiroth, Genesis and Angeal. An idea I had was a boomerang class called "Synergist" focused on party buffs with references to Hope and other elements from the FNC series.
Also I don't think they hate pet classes, I think they hate balancing pets. Which is probably why if they ever do BST it'll be a limited job, that way they can go crazy and not care about balancing.

Interesting thing they could do would be to add another Pysical Range DPS like puppetmaster, and give it scouting gear.
Overall honestly, I think Pysical Range DPS is kinda in a weird spot ,where they kinda are support ,but not really. So we could might as well get new Support genre where we could add future jobs that solely focus on support roles and dont have to try to keep up with other DPSs and give them more unique spells/skills.

I would love subjobs to be a thing. Playing through Octopath Traveler has made me really enjoy the sub job mechanic in the game and I would enjoy trying to see what worked best with my Monk or Ninja jobs. I would also like the job abilities to play more like they do in lore and for that to have more of an importance to how we play, if that makes sense. I think it would be great for immersion if the lore and history behind a job played a larger part in how jobs can be played and experienced, if there were more in game actions or implications for players based on what job they choose and make a bigger difference in things like interactions and how other characters see you, based on your job. Maybe that's too much of an ask, because it would be too much to program NPCs in this sprawling world to have different reactions and such to different jobs. It's just something I think would be cool. I think if they ever did add Beast Master or something akin to it, I'd love to try it.
