I ran in the 1960 to 1970's some GM 702 v12's on Natural gas for 10 years. There were perhaps several thousand running to pump irrigation water in the western great plains. GM also made a 637 v8 along with the 478 V6. The V12 produce 130 hp at 2200 rpm and ran very smooth.
I know where one of the Jimmie V-12 are, it's installed in a 65 GMC pickup with extended front hood. It's sitting in a shed in south west Kansas. The engines were used in that area to run well pumps for irrigation.
For the Lanz Bulldog, 55 hp doesn't seem like much, but considering the extremely low operating RPM, it'll put out enough torque to make Godzilla's head spin. Just a guess, but I'm thinking over 400 foot pounds.
+Icarusaresane Considering that in the 20's steam traction engines were still in use in farm & industry, the Lanz Bulldog must have had tough competition. Steam power has increadible torque, multi ton steam trucks accelerate like a sports car.
Another fact about the Lanz engine is that it can rotate in both directions. If you don't get it right at the startup you have to stop it and try again. Or drive backwards :-D
Hey Visio, I got one for you. The 01-06 GMC 3/4 and 1 ton trucks had an Option that wasn't purchased too often. It was a 496ci (8.1L) Big Block V8. It wasnt liked too much because the Duramax Diesel was the same price and had much better torque and gas mileage. But many drag racers have picked them up and turned them in 1/4 and 1/2 mile monsters. Take a look into it, it'd be cool to see it on one of these videos.
+Big Mike I have that in my truck :D I clicked on this video hoping to see the vortec 8100 in here but that's ok. I drove it today actually. It's quite the conversation starter. It was offered in a few Chevy vehicles. The suburban 2500, a few 2500HD trucks, and my chevy avalanche 2500.
My moms 3 tonne had a swap in it. It's a GMC with a Cleveland 4 barrel carburetor engine. It was bought out from my mom for the intentions of, "Putting it in my little, yellow Datsun truck and the transmission in it as well for drag racing. The body will be used as a flower hut."
I know where one of the gmc twin 6 is at. It sits in a shed in western Ks. it is mounted in a gmc truck with an extended hood. I was told that those engines were used in that area to pump water from wells for crops.
there is a good reason they keeped the large diesel powerplant engine in Copenhagen in running conditons even if today only used as tourist attraction... there was some years ago a huge electric black out in scandinavia ... this diesel powerplant played a major keyrule to get the grid back into running conditions... because it needs no electric power to start it is able restart a dead electric grid
So cool. Thanks much for putting these videos together. Really made my morning. And again, what's with the down votes? Little old ladies, lost on the interwebs? "I thought this was about sewing machines".
Hey people. If you know an engine or engines that are not so known between other people, share your knowledge with me. It looks you really like this video series and I am thinking of 4th part. It can be production or very interesting custom made engine, not necessarily car motor. Thank you!
+VisioRacer EMD 16-710 2 stroke turbo diesel, 3500hp, 710 cubes per cylinder, or the General Electric 7-FDL12 4 stroke turbo diesel, same sort of power levels, 2 completely different sounds
The Auto Union V16 with twin superchargers could, when tuned right up, produce 1000hp. Being as that was a racing car built before the second world war I can only imagine that it must have made for a car that was "interesting" to drive. By "interesting" I mean that the white cotton overalls often used by racing drivers at the time were probably not practical for drivers of them. To quote Jeremy Clarkson "some poo just came out..."
I never knew of the huge GMC V12. Sounds _good_. Like a WWII fighter. All the love for big V12s. Guessing it was some kind of truck engine in the pre-diesel era.
The Lanz Bulldog is a hilarious machine. With the hand throttle set as if it is driving equipment off the belt drive the front of the tractor will actually jump off the ground in time with the revolutions of the engine. Probably not the most comfortable tractor to drive though...
+Ian Thompson About 25 years ago I went to the store in New Haven,CT and there was this straight job sitting outside the store just idling and it sounded great. Well I noticed on the front fender it said V6. I popped the hood and low and behold there sat a freaking big block V6 with a big 4 barrel carb. It was the only one that I ever saw. The valve covers were ginormous!!! Days of old....
International Harvester gas start diesel engines. They were in the td series crawlers built before 1960. If you look on the right side of the engine, they look like a gas engine but the left looks like a diesel

Curtiss V-4 V12 only 2 still exist one is in the Smithsonian museum and the only running one is in the replica of Miss Detroit III which was previously running the GMC V12 that was modified to look like the Curtis V-4. The Curtiss V-4 was what was in the original Miss Detroit III.
Which engine is at 6:20? At 6:00 the V12 Toyota Century is introduced. Then it goes to a twin turbo V12 with the red intake at 6:20; then to an older black Mercedes E-class on a dyno?
+theomnipresent1 If there is no other introduction, it means it is the same engine. However this one in that Mercedes is little bit tweaked and is turbocharged. Stock 1GZ is N/A
The twin turbo with different intake made me think it might be the wrong footage, which was escalated by the next clip of an old E-Class on a dyno with no engine bay shot (since this is about the engine). I know what it was supposed to be, but wanted someone who really knew for 'sure' to confirm having seen these clips/cars elsewhere; maybe with links?
+MrZappy101 yes it like a monster. they actually drive it around at a special day in the sinsheim museum. there is just grating dividing the feet from the engine, so you get oil everywhere and its hot. also only one person dared to drave 200 kmh with it :D
To Visioracer, could you find out more about a type of tractor called the field marshal, that had a 1 cylinder engine of quite large proportions, I think they were only available in the 1940s in England. The Lanz bulldog seems somewhat similer.
*This* *whole* *Devel* *Sixteen* *thing* *is* *not* *going* *to* *happen*. I happen to know a production and engine-development engineer who works for the Quattro GmbH associated to Audi Sport. He told me that 5000 (and even 3000) metric horsepower was a ridiculous claim and that such an engine could never sustain the stress of everyday use. It would need a maintenance after every 100 to 200 km and a complete rebuild after 500km. Those Saudi amateurs should leave making cars to the people with experience and know-how.
Look at who is from. ..the guy who built the engine, I'm not sure why they are but I'm sure there's a reason. Look up Nelson racing engines decal sixteen review. They have a prototype already but it will be an expensive limited model built per order I bet
The engine in the Lanz Bulldog is not a diesel engine. Compression ratio is just about 6 to 1. You can operate this engine with a wide range of flameable fuel because it has a cylinderhead that is glowing all the time. The fuel is directly injected in this glowing part of the head at round about 140 degrees before the piston is in top position. So the fuel , no matter what kind of, has enough time to get into a flameable gas. The piston does push fresh air into the glowing cylinderhead while it is going forward. Then the mixture of fuel and air starts to burn very softly. This engine burns diesel, petrol, kerosin, alcohol, pure oil and lots of more....
man the sound of that audi w12 is sick!!!. That a8l I know for a fact is close to a $100,000 car brand new cause its at or near top of the line for that class of vehicle for the audi brand i do believe if im not mistaken.
gosportjamie they fix it.But those run at 130-185 RPM. Can't see that beauty throwing a rod. There is one in Boston to power all the hospitals in black-out emergencies.
should include the Ford gaa and gac engines in your next video. the gaa was an all aluminum, dohc, 1200 cubic inch v8 tank engine. I know of at least one sitting in a mustang. the gac may be harder to find footage of. it was a massive 1600 cubic inch v12 based off the Merlin
The VW R50's Turbo Diesel V10 engine is quite a rare piece as well. Speaking of VW's, the Golf MK4 had a V5 engine. Not L5 like the MK5; an actual V5 (VR5 if you want to be more technical). Ford's Triton V10 is quite unique as well. Might be a piece of trash, but boy does it sound amazing. The Subaru Legacy was offered with a Boxer 6 engine; worth mentioning that because besides the Subie, only hyper-expensive Porsche 911's and Ruf's have that kind of engine. The Cizeta-Moroder V16T transverse mounted V16 engine is also worth mentioning. And lets not forget Saab's and Lancia's V4 engines.
Check out the triple turbo 376 cubic inch 2 cylinder in the John Deere 730 diesel. This guy built it and it's wicked. Or look at the 501 ci 2 cylinder in the model D
i have seen an mad engine swap on UA-cam. it was a bmw 2002 with m50 engine. probably open headers while he was recording (also the radiator wasn't connected) but brutal sound. You should check it out
+VisioRacer oh might be possible. I am dreaming of an bmw 2002 with an modern engine, I was searching UA-cam a lot. that's where i found the video, I have probably seen the Sr20det swap there
I have a 355 Buick Wildcat engine from 1964.Its the only year made. It's only 300cid ,cast block, aluminum heads. From what I have found out it was to try and get into racing but it made too much power at 355hp or 355tq
Are you sure that the world's biggest diesel engine is in Copehagen?? Chuck Norris' lawn mower has a bigger one and only he can pull start it with the started cord. It is made of high tensile steel cable overwise Chuck's awesomeness would break it.
Cool video. Way cool engines. However, the caption for the quad turbo v-16 says makes 3000 hp on pump gas and 5000 on higher octane. It doesn't work that way. You can't just put higher octane gas in and make more power. The higher the octane, the harder it is for the fuel to burn. This can make more power in an engine, but you have to first increase the compression ratio of the engine with different heads and or Pistons.
David Ouradnik in a turbo charged engine you certainly make more power with with higher octane fuel because you can turn the boost up more before you start having predetination problems.
+jinaro kabue The w12 engine is extremely rare in the UK, I believe Audi didn't even sell 100 A8 W12s in the UK over its entire production run. In other markets such as the US I believe they were much more successful due to lower fuel prices and such but they were never going to be high volume cars because they were massively expensive. The A8 w12 had a list price higher than the most expensive Mercedes S-class. They are also hugely expensive to maintain, a new exhaust system for one costs over £5000 and you can't just go to your local exhaust centre and get an aftermarket one because so few were made that it's just not worth the suppliers tooling up to make one. Somewhat bizarrely the same engine was also used in the Volkswagen Passat which must make for a rather amusing sleeper. Someone who lives near me has a W12 Passat estate/station wagon and you have to look really hard to tell that it's not a standard car, on the road you wouldn't know until it blew you into the weeds lol... They tend to eat transmissions which were never really a strong point on any A8, and they also tend to make a mess of the four-wheel drive system too which is less common on Audis, probably because of the fact that although they're not particularly tuned for power they produce a LOT of torque... In reality, the cars were really rolling testbeds for engine designs and developments that were being thought about for use in the much more expensive Bentleys and Lamborghinis which are also Volkswagen Group products though I don't think the W12 ever found a home in either due to tightening emission laws making turbocharged smaller capacity engines preferable...
+jinaro kabue Properly rare. You will most likely never even see one in real life, let alone be able to buy one. My dad works for Audi and he told me that they might have probably made and sold 10000 here in Germany (only about 5% of all produced A8 are the full-size sedan version and only some of them have the 6.3 Liter W12 FSI engine) and there are only a handfull in the US because of the enormous import taxes. The S8 on the other hand is much less rare.
***** And to be fair the S8 is probably faster and a lot more fun to drive, the W12 is designed to be a big luxury saloon for people who have chauffeurs whereas the S8 is a real hooligans car and can be driven like a sportscar if you want. The W12, however, is a sublime motorway mile muncher, apparently you can drive stupid numbers of miles in a day and get out feeling like you've just got out of a nice hot bath...
I ran in the 1960 to 1970's some GM 702 v12's on Natural gas for 10 years. There were perhaps several thousand running to pump irrigation water in the western great plains. GM also made a 637 v8 along with the 478 V6.

2:44 "only makes aroung 55hp.. " . 55hp is more than enough for that tractor.
Yeah thats true!
That BMW 47L V12 startup sound is so RAW.
For the Lanz Bulldog, 55 hp doesn't seem like much, but considering the extremely low operating RPM, it'll put out enough torque to make Godzilla's head spin. Just a guess, but I'm thinking over 400 foot pounds.
+DrFruikenstein The operating rpm of the 55hp Bulldog was 750rpm, now do the maths.
+DrFruikenstein You have to take into account that in the 1920's a 55hp tractor was one big goddamn tractor.
+Medokai oddly, I was wondering how big that number was going to be!
+Icarusaresane Considering that in the 20's steam traction engines were still in use in farm & industry, the Lanz Bulldog must have had tough competition.

Moving up quick to 15k subs, congrats bro!
+EdwardAlcala It is ridiculously fast. Just before Christmas I had 3K subs, thank you all so much!
+VisioRacer You do deserve your subs! Great videos, keep them coming!
+VisioRacer it shows that your videos are awesome man keep it up, just remember the few that were here first ;) haha much love man!
+EdwardAlcala 15000!
+VisioRacer hype hype hype!!! Congrats bro!! :) you deserve it man! Just wait until you hit 150,00! Haha
like always nice video! and thank you for putting BRUTUS into the video :)
Why would anyone "dislike" this video? There's little to no opinion and he properly sourced his information/UA-cam users.
I'm loving the new look. Great video too.
That 6.0 L V16 sounds incredibly good

The Audi I was like holy shit, then I realized it was KPH lol
There is a shop in Blaine, Minnesota that has a lot of experience and parts for those Twin Six GMC engines.
Imagine what 22500HP sounds like! Also, that rotary engine is badass!
First off, Great video! My only issue is the Bulldog tractor engine. It's a hot bulb engine, not quite a diesel. Close but technically not quite.
in the 60s I worked for a CO. that had a hole fleet of GMC 7000 with V12
A fleet of holes?

cool
But will it fit in my Honda?

+Ian Thompson A 1966 478 bored over .060 and the heads deck milled and ports opened on exhaust & intake
love how big the tac is on the audi v-16. i want one of those gmc v-12s, damn what a monster. that last engine is a hell of an apu.
That A8 W12 is a beast....

0:57 dat sound tho :3
I've actually seen the Kawasaki it's in a motorcycle garage in Hatfield England... One hell of a beast
GMC also had a 637 cid v8 based on this design. Witch shared alot of parts with the diesel engines! The 305v6 to the 702v12.
Am I the only one that like that massive powerplant engine, and the big thumper tractors, more than the rest of the lot here?
dropped a tweet to you just found your twitter, keep up the awesome content bro!
That GMC v12 sounds like a pissed off v-twin when idling.
The Auto Union and the Lanz are very popular in Germany. Maybe you should mention the Red Porsche Killer.
2 stroke sound awesome.... screaming jimmy!
omfg the v12 in that Q7 is yanking tf out that truck
man the sound of that audi w12 is sick!!!. That a8l I know for a fact is close to a $100,000 car brand new cause its at or near top of the line for that class of vehicle for the audi brand i do believe if im not mistaken.
6:43 That engine is in the HE111 bomber.
That became bombers used in the London bombings.
In the World War 2
The Auto Union Type C dominated European racing at the time of its introduction, winning just about every Gran Prix in which it was raced.
You kind of have to wonder what happens if that last engine decides to throw a rod through the side of the block...
You run like hell!
GreenJeep1998 In search of some clean underwear I suspect...
Go to the hospital if you are still alive.
next stop would be hospital and hearing aid store lol

how about the 427 cammer? after all, it's the reason why ohc engines aren't allowed in NASCAR.
+Joshua Black shoc is the cammer, witch should be on there
+David 123 sorry, I read it wrong. my bad. nothing like mopar throwing a fit because something was out performing their precious hemi.
No Honda owners, that last engine won't fit in your car. lol
Napier Deltic is an interesting engine too. Check it out.
3:14 'dat turbo sound... orgasmic
Brutus from top gear , bad ass car.
My Austin 7 sound like the car at 29 seconds (In my head) But its more like the sound at 2 min 54 seconds

The Lanz Bulldog looks similar to a Field Marshall tractor, they have a very drawn out starting procedure involving a shotgun shell.
that auto union sounds so damn good
@VisioRacer
Check out Hondas old motorbikes.

Tankred Zrn How do you know? I haven't used that swap yet :D
+VisioRacer oh might be possible. I am dreaming of an bmw 2002 with an modern engine, I was searching UA-cam a lot. that's where i found the video, I have probably seen the Sr20det swap there
holy crap a 47l v12 if something like that were build now how much power would it have?
GMC 702 V12 is one of the best, I'm American Muscle guy.
You cant forget the Honda cbx 1000 6 cyl engine!
Jonatan Andersson I had the pleasure of riding a customers turbocharged CBX. IT WAS AN ABSOLUTE BEAST!
hahaha that w12 audi and check engine light is on ofcourse :D
Granddaddy of them all, a 1785 Boulton & Watt steam engine
2:43 I really want to be a farmer...like....right now!
I have a 355 Buick Wildcat engine from 1964.Its the only year made. It's only 300cid ,cast block, aluminum heads. From what I have found out it was to try and get into racing but it made too much power at 355hp or 355tq
holy shit that A6L surprised me
Are you sure that the world's biggest diesel engine is in Copehagen??
First one Audi union, its factory engine or tuned?
Our family has a Lanz Bulldog tractor ( one cylinder) fully restored to factory and it is a beut
The Auto Union GP car was probably too powerful for the tires of the thirties.
in old GMC they put all kinds of odd size V 6 engines.
What's the sound track from can't think of the game
These sound so weird now without your voiceover describing the motors.
6:43 wrong!! brutus was an experimental car of the car- and technicsmuseum sinsheim and was built between 1998 an 2006
+Markus Martin Little misunderstanding, 'Brutus' was meant for the engine in the video, not the car.
08:03 will it fit in my Smart Fortwo?
I'm curious about the audi sedan's engine, how rare is it?
+gosportjamie The W12 engine is still in production and fitted in the A8. The Passat 3B had "only" a W8 engine.
+black0utm1rage I'm based in Australia, I am guessing I'll probably have to import one, or are there engine swaps that can match this?
The Devel-16's heads look allot like a small-block Chevy's at their ends... Makes you think for a moment.
quad turbo 2jz, or a twin supercharged v8, take your pick.
Lanz bulldog was the most interesting, 10.3 ltr 1 cylinder.
would it fit on my honda ?
That Giant diesel in the end must be what Hillary Clinton uses to power her Vibrator.
Would have liked hp and ft lbs rating on the GMC twin six
at 2:35 it has a check engine light on lol
7:30 will it fit in my honda?
Where can I find a GMC v12?
