Hi Andrew and all. I ran this type of machines of the PTO of a tractor and best to put a cage across the front (and sides even) of the excavator. Protects against flying debris and when going through hedges it makes live easier. things come back from all angles and it only takes one bad one to hit you. You know how to install but worth doing. Danger doesn’t take a day off 👍. Great content as always. Cheers
I guess an asphalt driveway would be a dream there. Although, that will also make it easy for random strangers to take a 'wrong turn' and end up on his property. Would need a proper gate and fence then.
His own way with the trailer being unsafe to tow is not worth losing everything he's worked for if someone is injured or worse. He was concerned about the vehicle being damaged if the trailer came loose but takes it on the road.
@@krashdown102 If you have children or loved ones you would understand going over walking speed off of your own property is too far with that setup. Pretty interesting to see this as I operate excavators with this attachment daily. I would recommend getting a mulcher attachment, it cuts through brush and trees faster and easier then this will. This is perfect for grass, small saplings and branch overhangs, but really struggles to cut up anything bigger than that and can get bogged down. It will cut it if your patient enough though, just more wear and tear on the blades, drum and bearings. On some machines that struggle to track and cut at the same time, I find that if you put it in a rabbit mode you are able to track at a decent speed again, except uphill of course. Lastly if you intend to put a lot of use into this, I suggest welding another layer of flat bar on the bottom sides. They wear out very quickly and start to deform, at least on ours that we use daily it did, on every single one we have. Anyways, thanks for another awesome video, love all the entertainment and knowledge you bring to us all. Cheers!~ PS; Watch out for barbed wire with this, you have been warned, keep a roll around to replace the whole fence row when it sucks it all into the barrel lol
After running a skid steer with a forestry mulcher many a times I'm going to assume the same thing I'm about to say applies to an excavator with a mulchers. In my opinion a skid loader/excavator shouldn't be run with a mulcher, they are too abusive and tend to wear the machine out much much faster. Stick with dedicated equipment for mulching.
@@jaredc.3508 We mainly run the flail mowers and only use the mulchers when we have to clear a old path that hasn't been cleared in years, so that might be so long term. But from what I have seen there isn't any difference in the way it runs on the excavator as the flail mowers do.

Sometimes the timeline of Andrew's videos can be confusing. Some cover a whole year and all the sudden you see a clip of Blue when he was just a puppy and you know it was made 6 months ago. Very cool to see four seasons in one video

I have to agree that flail mowers are awesome. It was really cool to see what you can do if a flail mower is attached to an excavator arm. Last year we bought a 3 point hitch mounted offset flail mower for our small 1025R tractor. It is an incredibly versatile and incredibly useful attachment. Function wise, it includes the hydraulic offset (you can shift it all the way from centered to beside the rear of the tractor if desired), hydraulic tilt rotation (it can even mow vertically), 3 point hitch to raise and lower, hydraulic 3 point top link (which adjusts the mowing cut height when it is lowered so the rear roller rides on the ground), and the PTO to efficiently power it. One feature I like about ours is with the rear roller and top link to accurately adjust the mowing height, you can even use it to mow the lawn. For example, in this video, that area surrounding the pond would be mowed right down to say a 3" height, leaving all of the brush finely chopped and would look great. One big feature i wish it had was the ability to be raised more than 24" off the ground, like Andrew's can. We can't trim the top of trees and hedges for example. We can trim the sides up to about 60", just nothing higher than that. There is one thing I don't like about ours and that is the fact it is at the rear of the tractor. This means you have to twist your body around if you need to clearly see what your mowing.
The flail mower with be very useful for the snowmobile trail was well as the side of the road mowing when you can't get a brush hog in there. Good purchase!
The only downside to things like this on a mini-ex is the travel speed of the machine. I love my Deere 35G, but they travel like extremely heavy snails. For more than a few hundred yards of trail, you’d need to have your brush clearing device on a CTL before it was on a digger.(CTL means compact track loader, which is a tracked skidsteer.)
Indeed. A mower like this that's mounted on an excavator is probably the most flexible mower you can have since it can reach spots you that over machines either could never reach or only with great difficulty.
Once again amazed at the variety of attachments for skidsteers and excavators that this guy has. Eventually he's going to get one that does his taxes for him.
I envy you. Live and work in an area that's not traveled very much and no nosy neighbors. The multitude of jobs that you do. AND all those great toys. Keep up with the great videos.
Once I see installments like that flail mower rotating, I always have to remember the brush-mincer-scene in the snow from the first "Fargo" movie. That flail mower could definitely make for some nice memorable scenes with the right directors, that's for sure.

Love how you can see the previous attempt to get up the hill by the tire tracks. You can almost see the lightbulb that went off in his head to say: “I should film this bs!” The dude is brilliant!
This is one of the attachments I thought you could really use, though I think I would want to use a Mini with a cab because digging splints out of my body would suck. The other I have seen is an attachment that converts excavator quick attach to skid steer quick attach which saves you buying things twice.

Andrew is definitely winning the game "He who dies with the most toys, wins!" Not sure if you said what the plans were for that area, but since you already have a castle, now you need a FORTRESS!
That mountain road sure could use some widening and smoothing. The flail mower works good for brush and small saplings. You should consider some type of chipper for mulching some of the smaller tree branches.

You are so super AMAZING!!!!! I watched all your vids, they are editing perfectly, as soon as I think the vid is getting boring you fast forward. Your timing is perfect.
Andrew is extremely good at making 45 minute videos that feel like they’re 10 minutes long. A great contrast to the “how to” videos where they stretch 30 seconds of information into 20 minutes where the guy keeps repeating himself as he begs you to subscribe.
20:33 , When i used to run mini hoe, this was how i always unloaded my machine out of the dump trailer we used to have. The ramps were unbelievably heavy and we moved it alot, so this method was much easier on the back. Only thing i would suggest, use the blade as a way to perch yourself up on the unloading side. Push the blade all the way to the ground so you sit a little more even, it made it feel alot less sketchy when you would swing around. Love the vids
Yes but on a deckover if you go over the side blade first it will hit ground and you can't track unless you stick down out front and depending on the geometry and the machine you can get stuck or drop hard. Not hating on anyone here it all depends on deck height and machine but great advice regardless it is for sure a time and space saver when you get it figured out .
@@stevec4011 Good point, I actually never thought of that. The machine i used was smaller than this, but the trailer i used was fairly tall, almost the same as most deck heights. Because this machine has the 2 way blade, i believe it wont lift up as high, leading me to believe that your scenario you mentioned might happen.

Hi Andrew, for the most mulchers / flail mowers are Hammerknifes/blades instead of Y-knifes/blades availiable. These are much heavier and way more suitable for chopping treebranches and stuff like you cut in the Video. Y-blades are meant more for high grass and thinner stuff. Maybe think about it, when the first set of blades is worn out and you need new ones. best regards from germany and thank you for all your efforts, David
Most generally a good quality hammer drum is thicker and thus heavier requiring larger end bearings to handle greater shock loads. Y-blade drums and bearings are much lighter and any reputable drum manufacturer will warn against installing hammers on a y-blade drum.
Great video as always Andrew. Dump those tyre pressures prior to that muddy hill climb. 12 -15 psi all round will help. If you going to continue driving 4wd's up this hill, diff locks will also help.
Im really liking this recent string of videos, youve obviously been putting in a lot of hard work making these videos look as good as they do, 5k 60fps really high bit rate, cant beat it.
That high bit rate makes all the difference! I've seen 1080p footage looking better than 4K ones. Andrew is giving us the best, highbitrate and 4k+ resolution!!!
@@satchell78 it will auto select resolution based on your internet connection. ive got Cox which is horrible so my setting are always getting bumped down from 1080 to 480. constantly have to change it back.
Had a bloke do my property last year with an 8ft one he had on a 90HP tractor. Absolutely terrifying to watch how long it kept spinning for after he cut the PTO and opened the guard panel on it. Certainly did an amazing job of mowing down all the weeds and pulverising them into mulch though!
Great tool when used properly. Some of our beautiful state highways are desecrated by flail mowing, Ditches, and shrub clearing is great but what I hate is when they use them to prune trees. Broken shattered branches look like storm damage.
Oh nice I’ve been waiting for a long video to watch. They are my favorite Dont get me wrong I watch what ever you put out but long videos just hit different lol. Thank you for the content keep it up
Something that might mitigate some of the chips and chunks from becoming missiles is a piece of conveyor belt bolted to the left side to deflect them down. You could use the bolts that are already there that are holding the black metal strip on.
I’ve been considering one of these but I haven’t seen many with the flail type only the knifes. I’m worried my machine doesn’t have enough flow even though the specs say it does.
Which size / model machine are you mounting it to? Something in the 3-4 metric ton range (Deere 35G or his KX-040) seems like a really good match for this particular implement.
Have you ever considered those solar battery maintainers to keep all your batteries fully charged throught the year especially on your equipment that isn't used very often?
I am told to only use flail mowers, forestry mulchers, and other fast rotating implements that fling debris far and fast on equipment with a closed cab (preferably with a reinforced windshield).
What a machine!! You have a super brush wacker now. Noticed the big Cat dump truck. What you will find to do with it I am wondering. Looking forward to seeing that video. Keep up the good work, we love your videos.
I still have a 97 Isuzu Rodeo 5spd 4x4 (310k miles) .. and I've taken that thing everywhere offroad, and nothing has ever broken on it. Not even the U-joints on the driveshaft. It finally needs a new timing belt-- but man that thing was my favorite thing to drive for many years... 3.2L V6
When I see you having to jump your equipment that been sitting for awhile I wonder about those solar panel trickle chargers... have you ever tried them? It might be interesting to try? It would seem like Kobota, Deere, Cat would have come up with a way to keep the batteries charged on the seldom used equipment.

I have been putting tomato cages around all of our conifers on the property in North Minnesota. Too precious around us, most of our conifer stands in the state are being turned into mulch and replaced with worthless aspen regrowth.
I’ve been waiting for this since I saw a sneak peak in the past video on the skidsteer grapple. Great work!

I like how he honestly assesses the equipment.
Love how you can see the previous attempt to get up the hill by the tire tracks.
You can almost see the lightbulb that went off in his head to say: “I should film this bs!”
The dude is brilliant!
Keep them coming Andrew! I love these videos.
Thank you again Andrew that was a Great picture there at the end of the video I can’t wait till you come out with the next on Thank you so much
This is one of the attachments I thought you could really use, though I think I would want to use a Mini with a cab because digging splints out of my body would suck. The other I have seen is an attachment that converts excavator quick attach to skid steer quick attach which saves you buying things twice.
I would think a big chipper would be better.
I love your adventures spirit and the affect on those who support you.
Andrew, your videoing skills have gone crazy lately ! I know nothing about filming but the rendering is awesome in terms of angles, movements, and the colors are just WOW ! Just can't wait for the next one !!!
Any big projects ahead, with lots of episodes, like that lady that you had dug the driveway for, and the foundations, installed the leach field and all ???
absolutely, my thoughts exactly, impeccable camera work.
Rendering is just producing the final video file, but you're right... His production quality is so good! Definitely deserves his own Discovery show or something, but then I'd be less likely to watch tbh.
He has started to either color correct his videos, or he got a new camera that has much more accurate colors.
5K resolution really helps but I agree his filming is off the charts.
lately? Its been high quality stuff since at least three years.
been watching your vids for years now, and that burning and u throwing more wood on there was one of the most satisfying things since the first mini drainage ditch/culvert digging vids.
please take every job you can that involves burning and vid it for me/us XD
fun watching all fire smolder, then flare, then smolder as you clean up all the sticks and wood. oh and your blowing up that small hill side on your property vid was crazy too hahaha
The episode of the trailer "broken for no reason" is absolutely delirious, and then 3 videos in 3 days there we are approaching ecstasy, it's great! 🤣
Another great way to end my day - thanks AC, that was very interesting to watch, and I love the whole earth being green there at the end too!
May you find joy in the little things and happiness in the big moments of life. Have a great time watching the video!
You are the man no one can put a candle to you, I remember watching you almost 10 years ago and wondering what you were up to, and wondering if you had what it takes. and now I'm addicted to your Channel I love the way you figure things out, you have a lot of great ideas and aren't afraid to tackle any job that comes your way and you have to admit you are a workaholic which results in a lot of stuff getting done all the time. I drive up and down the Hudson Valley between Millbrook and Oneonta and drive through your playground very often I love the mountains you are very lucky be a little more careful stay safe and keep having fun love the dogs, keep up the hard work:-)
Thanks. How were you watching me 10 years ago?
@@AndrewCamarata hey Andrew I know one thing you're an interesting guy with a lot going on and I definitely am addicted to the channel, something that's never happened before on UA-cam for me. I have a bunch of tractors and equipment and tools and I love all that stuff to, I even used to work on small engines just like you when I started out and still do. I broke my neck several years ago and can only drive my smaller tractors now but kind of live virtually through you because it's like sitting on the driver's seat of a lot of this equipment and these jobs and it really does bring a lot of joy to my life so thank you thank you thank you. I even love the snowmobile rides the RZR rides which I used to go RZR riding with my buddy up in Oneonta New York and up on top of those mountains it is beautiful, I still can do that thank God but yeah it's the first time I realized we've come a long ways in virtual reality so again thank you.
Jim quick
@@AndrewCamarata I did start watching you several years ago it might have been seven you had just bought your second dump truck and maybe a dozer but it was way back in the beginning your first video on UA-cam I would have never thought then what you've accomplished now believe me you have a lot to be thankful and proud of.
Andrew is definitely winning the game "He who dies with the most toys, wins!" Not sure if you said what the plans were for that area, but since you already have a castle, now you need a FORTRESS!
Nice job Andrew , I love your Videos especially when you go into Warp Speed .
Great control on the Kubota getting it off the trailer without damaging anything.
That mountain road sure could use some widening and smoothing. The flail mower works good for brush and small saplings. You should consider some type of chipper for mulching some of the smaller tree branches.
Great video of the "Yard Barber" at work. From trims to full scalpings!
Thank you for the consistent uploads, these long videos are like therapy treatment for me. I love all the angles, the machines, the dogs and most important the operator with that cool New York accent. Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
If its ever been made at some point in history, Andrew has one of them!!!!!!!
You make the best content on UA-cam
With all the gear you have gotten over the last few years, its difficult to imagine what you don't have. I especially loved the mower that you made your castle residence look like a country manor. Another piece of enjoyable excellence Andrew, thanks :)
Hi Andrew, I really like your channel! I always tease my husband and say” that’s not how Andrew would do it” and we chuckle a little 🤣 I found you during lockdown, when you where welding the castle. You are so super AMAZING!!!!!
I watched all your vids, they are editing perfectly, as soon as I think the vid is getting boring you fast forward. Your timing is perfect.
that's funny!!! awesome, thanks for that one. peace
Самый тупое изобретение
Castle welding was more then 2 years ago. Your channel is 9 months old....
Andrew is extremely good at making 45 minute videos that feel like they’re 10 minutes long. A great contrast to the “how to” videos where they stretch 30 seconds of information into 20 minutes where the guy keeps repeating himself as he begs you to subscribe.
I always love watching a good quality fire 🔥 nothing like it
20:33 , When i used to run mini hoe, this was how i always unloaded my machine out of the dump trailer we used to have.
Good idea
Old school Isuzu Troopers always impressive how well they were at off roading.
Yes.
It’s amazing how those labs immediately form a pack and work all together!
they're incredibly untrained! I've noticed that.
You can clean your snowmobile trails with that thing brother, those overhanging tree limbs and branches! 👌🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻 You know, it’s so cool but weird seeing the weather change going up the mountain to your new camp and property! Seeing the snow at the top of the mountain after being at a different elevation and seeing no snow and calmer temperature! It’s cool brother! 👌🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻 Thanks for sharing Andrew, stay safe and healthy my friend and I love your kids, Cody and Blue! Keep them babies safe and healthy too brother! 👌🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hi Andrew,
for the most mulchers / flail mowers are Hammerknifes/blades instead of Y-knifes/blades availiable. These are much heavier and way more suitable for chopping treebranches and stuff like you cut in the Video. Y-blades are meant more for high grass and thinner stuff. Maybe think about it, when the first set of blades is worn out and you need new ones.
best regards from germany and thank you for all your efforts,
David
They use the y type or cranked blade to cut down on the weight of the mulcher especially on small diggers
Be careful before changing all flails
Most generally a good quality hammer drum is thicker and thus heavier requiring larger end bearings to handle greater shock loads. Y-blade drums and bearings are much lighter and any reputable drum manufacturer will warn against installing hammers on a y-blade drum.
tanta pulizia bravissimi, complimenti. luigi da verona veneto italy go go go🤟🤘🤘🤘🤘✌
The man of many attachments!
Good to know a friend that has the right tool for EVERY job!
Great video as always Andrew. Dump those tyre pressures prior to that muddy hill climb. 12 -15 psi all round will help. If you going to continue driving 4wd's up this hill, diff locks will also help.
Thanks for the video. You dont know how much I appreciate them.
The man is an artist.
Thanks for the heads up, mine auto set to 480p. I thought Blue was a cat.
@@satchell78 it will auto select resolution based on your internet connection. ive got Cox which is horrible so my setting are always getting bumped down from 1080 to 480. constantly have to change it back.
That flail mower works great andrew, job looks great
Had a bloke do my property last year with an 8ft one he had on a 90HP tractor.
Absolutely terrifying to watch how long it kept spinning for after he cut the PTO and opened the guard panel on it. Certainly did an amazing job of mowing down all the weeds and pulverising them into mulch though!
I have one of these excavator mounted flail mowers since two years now it's pretty good to do work on difficult areas
Awesome piece of machinery
Great tool when used properly. Some of our beautiful state highways are desecrated by flail mowing, Ditches, and shrub clearing is great but what I hate is when they use them to prune trees. Broken shattered branches look like storm damage.
It’s called a mower, not a chipper. For clearing brush, not shredding branches.
Much respect Andrew! Thanks for not being a sellout!
Oh nice I’ve been waiting for a long video to watch. They are my favorite Dont get me wrong I watch what ever you put out but long videos just hit different lol. Thank you for the content keep it up
Neat tool. I'm not sure who's having a better time, you or the dogs.
Your comments are a testament to your knowledge and expertise on the subject.
Great video, thank you! Do you think you will ever lay in a road that a regular sedan could drive up? I love what you’re doing with it all.
Glad to see you putting content out again! I like your work and the pups:)
Something that might mitigate some of the chips and chunks from becoming missiles is a piece of conveyor belt bolted to the left side to deflect them down. You could use the bolts that are already there that are holding the black metal strip on.
Or chain's bolted there that seems to be the go here in Australia and it slows a lot of stuff down.
@@mulishapatrol Yes, a lot of brush hogs have those.
Holy Schinke's, two videos this week. It's a good day! Thanks AC!!
I saw one of these personal and close up. Great for fields and between trees, and steep grades.
Blue Cody & you....Star of the show = Awesome....Thanks Andrew and friends....Shoe🇺🇸
I’ve been considering one of these but I haven’t seen many with the flail type only the knifes. I’m worried my machine doesn’t have enough flow even though the specs say it does.
idk much about them, but isn't a mulcher a better tool for the job ?
Which size / model machine are you mounting it to? Something in the 3-4 metric ton range (Deere 35G or his KX-040) seems like a really good match for this particular implement.
Out of all the channels I subscribe to, this one is by far the best one. Great stuff!
Is blue gonna get his own video?! Can't wait to watch him grow up
Yes
@@AndrewCamarata awesome.
That view off the side of the cliff! That's a million dollar view my friends!
Nice. These Isuzu’s are very tough.
When I see you having to jump your equipment that been sitting for awhile I wonder about those solar panel trickle chargers... have you ever tried them? It might be interesting to try? It would seem like Kobota, Deere, Cat would have come up with a way to keep the batteries charged on the seldom used equipment.
or even a portable jump start like triple A.
I thought that as well.
