honestly i think you should make that cable tester standard when anything comes with a cable now
Agreed
I guess they do it already
Which is
yup I 2nd that motion
They'll just start shipping pre-tested cables to Linus, and the same old crap to everyone else.
Love that we are seeing the cable tester again! Cant wait to see it expose more cables in the future.
@JESSICA bad bot
We need a cable test video for all the Amazonian brands...

Damn that actually sounds pretty good for a right out of the box mic, I could barely tell when they switched to it.
Lmao i didnt realize they switched till the “bump” test
Well it was noticeable because the eq is slightly different
You should get a better pair of headphone, the NZXT is way worse than their regular mic and it's quite noticeable (but to be fair it's not in the same range of price either)
I could definitely tell, but I’m an audiophile so I notice a lot lol
it was very noticable to me, but compared to when they test phone and laptop mics you can say it's more "subtle" cause this sounds leagues better
They definitely made it simple! I need to get my hands on that cable tester
You should!
I think you replied to the wrong video
@@vijaykumar-gi8co ?
@@Anankin12 they had a seperate cable tester video on LTT i guess
@@vijaykumar-gi8co and they used that cable tester in this video, did they not?
Good to see that the cable tester is now a recurring part of LMG.
even though a fail is still a fail in the test, even if the cable is long, the resistance should not be too high. kind of a shame linus protects the sponsor here
@@zachso they are paying for the video man, it's already big that he got to show the cable tester at all in the video
@@zachso it's a good cable for the use
Theres literally no point in getting the highest grade cable to lower resistance when the resistance would never be a problem
Maybe you should stop attacking linus for his completely fair evaluation of the cable?
I love how happy Linus is with his cable tester lol.
When he said "Sponsors aren't safe", I took that to mean he was going to be giving a negative review of a sponsored product.
It's not a review. It's a first impression video. The full review probably won't be that good. RandomfrankP basically said it was overpriced and not good value
He wouldn't take money for an overall negative review. That would completely kill his revenue for showcases or unboxings.
@@HH-le1vi its $130 so its not that match overpriced the orginal razer seiren was overpriced at a price from €200 with extremly bad sound quality. When you buy a xlr mic, you can get a tbone xlr mic for €50 , €40 for interface and €20 for stand that is atround $130
@@PyroKalfje Sure you can compare anything to terrible razer products to make it look good. But the benchmark should never be the worst product you can get for your money.
Yeah, it's called clickbait.
"Bring me my cable tester!" King Linus exclaimed. Lol I love it. Its awesome it's mobile enough to just bring it in on set at a whim as well! Money well spent Linus.
If what's on yourube comes from the actual mic, then that is pretty damn close to your usual quality . .
Well, it sounds great. Good job NZXT, I'd say.
@JESSICA nice 👍
@JESSICA nice 👍
No. NZXT is trash. The Blue Yeti is better.
@@PlatinumEagleStudios have you had a bad experience with nzxt?
@@adamm6343 Yes. They make garbage. I hate them.
It actually sounds really good, even more so for the price
It sounds worse than a Behringer BX2020 which costs about 60$. Yes, you need phantom power for it but that still puts you at a significantly cheaper price and gives you more options. I dont understand how USB mics are getting away with worse performance at prices above 100$ when mic+interface combos are cheaper and better.
@@waterturtle2919 You sound like someone who could help me. Say I want to monitor the mic while I’m gaming in a game that uses voice chat. I will get worse audio output to my headphones (Sennheiser HD 650s) if I plug into one of these mic monitoring 3.5mm jacks right? Is there a simple way to monitor in Windows without lag?
I have an Audient EVO 4 Interface and can’t figure out live monitoring without lag for the life of me.
Mic is using Phantom Power + XLR into one of the XLR inputs on the Evo 4 interface. Headphones are plugged into the front ‘headphone’ port. Just seems a lot less simple than it should be lol…..
@@tiestofalljays I don't think you'll get more latency with the monitoring output than with a regular onboard sound chip. It's basically just a usb soundcard that gets some audio mixed on top. At least for me, I don't notice anything. Monitoring with software will always have some higher delay though, which can be irritating.
I would be happy to see a cable tester segment for any product review going forward. Also mic, looks easy enough to suggest to others
I love that you're already using the cable tester with pre-included cables! Hopefully this pushes manufacturers to provide better quality cables in the long run. In this case, I do agree that the extra resistance isn't the end of the world, and it should operate fine for the microphone at least.
Long run, hehe
I don't think any extra resistance degrades digital signals though?
@@williamluong7743 The signal itself is fine, but more resistance = more heat. Plus if you have a power supply sending out a certain amount of power, there may be less than expected at the other end of it due to the resistance. Linus explained one of the possible issues with that. Fixing this issue is as simple as making the wires thicker. It's also possible that the electrical connections within are sub-par. Looking at the tests results, that seems like a possibility but I'm no expert.
@@williamluong7743 yes it can. If the signal arriving at the other end is too weak, it can't be interpreted reliably anymore, even if it's a digital signal.
However, this is likely not gonna be the issue with a 3 meter USB cable. What's more likely to cause issues here is thermal resistance when you connect a USB devices that draws max power from that USB port.
And as Linus said in this video, the rated power draw of this mic is actually quite close to the maximum power draw of USB 2.0, so if you run this mic hot* for prolonged time for some reason, it" might literally get hot and potentially cause damage.

@@LRM12o8 ah ok
Love how Linus implies he whispers when he gets excited.
It's what makes him such a great nabor :)
We need more cable testing, that was so satisfying
You almost can’t tell when he switches from his normal mic to the NZXT one
definitely a near-studio quality mic for sure
I was pleasantly shocked when he switched over and the drop off was barely noticeable.
@@myrkr_ I mean he switched from a lav mic which is not remotely close to a proper full sized dynamic, condenser, or ribbon mic
@@StarmanDX As far as I know, LMG does not use lav mics for Short Circuit videos. There is a fixed microphone mounted on an arm above the desk, just out of shot.
It's a pretty obvious change imo, maybe you need better headphones?
It sounds really quite good for how simple it is. Compared to the recording mic, the NZXT sounds more narrow, compressed, but still very good.
WE NEED! nay WE DEMAND a USB-A, USB-C, HDMI, DP cable roundup with metrics that rank ALL cables and extensions.
Including; long, short, thin, fat, braided, unbranded, cheap, and expensive variants.
Does the tester show what cables identify as when it comes to PD and other USB-C cables that include in-plug identification IC's?
It probably has to, to be able to test them appropriately. What is good for a normal short usb-c cable is NOT good for a 100w-rated USB-c cable
That sounded very good out of the box, for once solidity. It was very focused and specific as in sounded isolated, yet that can be what you want in a lot of cases. So probably much easier for someone than something like the Shure mv7 and have a cleaner pickup without much fuss
I noticed Audient EVO audio interfaces on your editing stations in another video, would be nice to see your take on it, possibly compared with other entry level interfaces (Focusrite, Audient iD line, Steinberg etc.).
You should compare this to the Blue Yeti microphone, considering they’re the exact same price and have the same exact features.
Don't forget the hyperx one, the version with rgb can be found for 150 and the version with red lds for 130
No they don't have the "exact same features" idiot. The Yeti has 3 capsules inside of it and 4 adjustable pickup patterns including full stereo recording from one mic. This junk only has a SINGLE capsule in it, making this thing junk. The Blue Yeti has MUCH better build quality and uses all metal construction. Blue's condenser capsules sound MUCH better and warmer than NZXT's junk caps they use. I can go on if you want me to, but I think I'll stop for now.
It sounds pretty good! I wish they went with a dynamic instead, just because they are usually more forgiving if your room isn't set up the best for audio.
that buzz at the beginning made me think of Welcome To The Machine, and Person of Interest. Boy do I miss that show.
Really nice sound! Works super well with your voice in particular!
I do wonder how it works with low voices.
I love the completely straightforward, honest introduction
To me, the mic sounds really good with a nice open, clear, and normal-sounding profile.
I didn't expect it to be this good, actually it wasn't a review though it sounds pretty decent even though it's price tag.
@@spritsfal5088 like 130ish
Remember NZXT did send it over so it could have been a cherry picked sample or the eq could have been modified
@@VengeanceLN I can see sending golden chips for like a cpu or gpu review but I doubt they are doing anything like that for a mic lol
a microphone of that quality with an included pop filter and boom arm goes for around 80$ not exactly a good deal when the reviewed mic is 130.
I really liked the extend to which microphones capabilities were tested here. Considering this is a short circuit video i didn't expect them to test how loud a keyboard would be on the recording.
Im also positively surprised by the appearance of the cable tester.
I love how he's happy with his cable tester
Damn, I didn't know I needed a cable testing section until now. Love it!
Song playing during unboxing is 'real low low by Gloria tells' if anyone's wondering
Love the half assed box closure tab by Linus
Ooh the audio sounds really good there :O impressive. It sounds cleaner than I expected in all honesty 🤔
that's called "clipping" in audio, where the sine wave from the mic gets cut off ("clipped off") before the sine wave could peak. Great mic!
4:23 Im happy to see the laptop :)
Considering that there is 0 EQ or any kind of audio post processing, that is really impressive for that price and straight out of the box setup.
Im pretty sure it has some internal DSP stuff going on. A condenser mic usually has significantly more bass, especially that close to the source. It seems to have a roll off for the bass and a slight boost in the high end.
@@drkastenbrot The extra bass you're attributing to condenser microphones, is actually due the design of directional microphones. Additionally it's typically dynamic microphones in which this effect is even more pronounced.
And yeah, I wouldnt doubt for a second there is some sort of DSP happening internally in this microphone.
@@adrianhoehne6449 I am well aware of the nuances of the proximity effect, but it can be generalized as condenser microphones being a little bass heavy up close, since they have relatively large diaphragms and very good bass sensitivity.
would you test the JPS Labs cables that dms brought to demo his Abyss headphones?
At this rate I'm expecting to see that cable tester host an episode of Techquickie.
I loved the cable test. Do this with all your videos.
I straight up did NOT expect it to sound that good... Also one of the most attractive looking desk mics on the market in my opinion.
With your current OBS settings you actually want to peak at the top ot the red area (0db)
It sounds great and it really isolates other noises. Good job NZXT
This is the video that’s made company’s realise that yes, Linus will test every cable coming through
When is the first Linux video coming? Im really excited for it.
"Fetch me my cable tester!"
And so Linus crosses another bullet point off a ludicrously long bucket list.
I'm actually impressed with the audio quality!
I really like the sound of that mic! I remember the Elgato mic you guys tested a few weeks ago and that sounded way worse than this. Nice product and clean video.
A video testing various cables from Amazon and beyond would be very interesting! That thing is so cool!!
Thank you for doing pack in cables testing
With that Cable tester. I'd be super curious what "Oculus Quest 2" cables are good and what ones aren't. So many are on Amazon. It'd be cool to see the stats on the official 16ft long USB-C cable they have for 80$. Originally they say the cables had to be a certain spec but overtime they lowered the specs need and more cables be came usable. Resident Evil 4 VR just hit and is exclusive for Quest 2 and I expect more like it in the future.
yo I was just thinking about that, resistance would be a massive issue with 20ft~ cables
I always recommend the 'Samson Go Mic', for ~$40 it's great, USB condenser mic with a headphone jack so you can hear yourself without any delay. And the quality is good enough for recording music.
(sorry, just love that thing, had it for years and have way more expensive mics, but it holds up and is great for people starting out podcasting etc.)
2 things :
-I know this wasn't a review but thanks for mentioning the bass proximity effect. Too many people don't understand that dynamic mics aren't as sensitive as condensers so you have to be up on them for your full voice to come through. Jayztwocents recently found this out...
-This is not an audio interface since it will not record audio on its own, however the headphone jack is handy since there won't be any latency from your voice going through all the audio gear and pc and then back out to your headphones when you can just hear it right off the mic input instead
I love the cable tester - Linus is forcing the OEMs up their cable quality 👌
Not bad. I have an akg lyra and love it so I'm always curious how other USB mics compare.
It would be really interesting to see how it stacks up against elgato wave 3, since the latter has amazing software and this lacks that.
I didn't even realized they switched mics for a while. Really good for "out of the box"
NZXT didn’t actually expect Short Circuit to test the electronics. At least there wasn’t an actual short this time.
It'd be cool to have a quick fire cable test video with your new tester
Love the actual unboxing with Linus.
I just realized what video I need with that cable tester. Do magsafe adaptors effect signal integrity?
Awesome video man! Do you suggest copy trading as good approach for beginner to start with trading or should I just invest long term while I learn things on how day trading works?? Thank you!
@TJ Rogers Found her website online! I will connect with her. Thanks
@TJ Rogers Found her website online! I will connect with her. Thanks
definitely not bad but the wave 3 does have that nice clipguard which helps a lot. but as for simplicity this does stricke everything. shock mount would need a bit of work it seems
Per USB 2 specification maximum length is 2 meters and I have experience with that being actual issue with a USB fast device (not slow like HID)
Thanks for the buzzer at the beginning. It made my cat freak out.
Also, with cable. Usually when you get audio interface, you can power 2 microphones like this one, by using only one USB-C cable, also you power whole processing, headphones and speakers. So its not bad that this cable is a little bit too long, because it will deliver required voltages and it should be USB 2.0 which should be fine at 3 meters
This looks like a really solid and easy microphone. Sounds great too.
To be fair, it sounds really good. Many people talking about the cables, not mich tall about the audio quality
The sound from the mic is actually nice
sound pretty good. comfortable sound. although found it a bit lifeless sounding on my pro monitoring setup. other devices/setups it was good. I think they might have a low pass filter and maybe even a small eq cut to de-ess. smart move for streaming and online calls if they do have that and would explain the dullness/lifelessness in the high frequencies.
Not running any post processing it sounds awesome out the box.
"All dead cables lying in the darkness of a drawer somewhere shall be exposed to the light."
Linus 42:69b
One test it would be nice to see on something like this is the audio if you are talking and typing on a mechanical keyboard whilst the mic is on the desk, I would like to see how intrusive that sort of sound is.
I love how it looks omigod i need this at some point
Does anyone know the studio mic they used for recording the first half of the video?
Will probably need some air on the highs. Might be the correction built into the dsp.
The peaking issue is typically windows mic settings are automatically cranked to 100% so you have to turn down the windows microphone setting to around 50 or 60%
The sound quality must be quite good....I didn't catch the studio to mic audio switch
I really really really love NZXT's design for all of their stuff. components, cases, etc... It's all very simplistic and isn't bulky or has useless features/things on their products.
As an audio engineer and musician, that sounds shockingly close to the "industry standard" Shure SM7B that most streamers use, and for a fraction of the cost (not even including a high quality XLR cable and audio interface!)
Looks like a fantastic product. I'd consider getting one if I didn't already have the aforementioned setup.
at 1.5 A the voltage drop across the cable is .105 V. its lower limit is probably quite a ways lower than 4.9 V, so it's fine
Well done on being willing to point out the cable is a bit ordinary!
i was looking to buy a microphone and this video came at the right time, it sounds really good out of the box i’m rather sold, it has that podcast feel to it
That bit of the top of the box sticking out at the beginning triggered me
Does the "return" jack also play the sound from the computer?
Need more packaging reviews
glad to see the Cable tester getting good use
Not sure on the appeal or how "on brand" it would be but I could happy watch a butt ton of short videos validating different cables.
I really liked testing the cable and not taking the manufacturers word for it
Good to know it has a cable that you should label with the device so you don’t use it for general USB duties. Non compliant cables are a pain.
considering price im really dissapointed there isn't an xlr port on it to be able to upgrade to a proper xlr setup later on, lots of mices from around that price point have it as aditional audio out
I would like to know how it would compare to something like the Blue Yeti
Impressed by how it sounds.
I would love an in-depth mic tutorial for OBS from you all. It always sounds so nice. Like, what VST-plugins do you use, if any? You always state get it in that yellow and near red but that doesn't really account for when you get louder than normal. For LPs, I always edit it after but with OBS, how exactly do you get it sounding so good in the moment?
I believe Alpha Gaming has a great tutorial for general microphone settings, including OBS settings and plugins
Setup a gate and compression. With a gate you avoid any low volume background noise from constantly humming and with compression you can avoid bursting ear drums when you get louder than normal. Compression is made exactly to keep your volume normalized whether you are louder or quieter than normal.
I think the cable tester should have its own cameo/intro when it's brought in for testing
For some reason I thought you had found a listening device concealed in the packaging in addition to the product.
is it just me or did the nzxt mic sound slightly rounder like it had the higher frequency toned down a bit compared to the mics in the studio
I love how he didn't bang the table because he knew it would pick up a lot in the mic because it doesn't even have a shockmount
1:25 he sounds like a king, ordering his knights.
Already putting that cable tester to good use.
