great to watch this, again. Pink Floyd have kept me going for a long time, now. in 2006 i was diagnosed with end stage emphysema and was given just a few months to live, at most. during most of that time, i've been somewhat housebound, completely so, over the past 5 years. this year, everyone has had a taste of what it's been like for me. music has kept me going. no-one knows why i'm still alive. for the 3 months, from mid December onward, i was so ill, with a chest infection that wouldn't go, no-one expected me to survive it. i had 2 stays in hospital, one for pneumonia. youtube, with all the great music on it, has really kept me going. Pink Floyd, especially. i listen to them every day. without all the music i have at my fingertips, i doubt i would still be here. i think, now, that a lot of people will now understand just a little of what it's been like, for me. the isolation [i live alone] the fear of dying. i keep hearing of how it's the low paid workers who are the real heroes, not the musicians and sportsmen/women, and i agree, up to a point, but without our music idols, our social isolation would drive us all mad. it's our emotional equivalent of pain killers, anti-bacterials and anti-septic. it's as vital as the air we breath, the food we eat and the homes we live in. i don't have the words to express my thanks and appreciation to all of those musicians and performers who give their all to us. so many are just in it for the money and fame and the quality of what they do is pretty poor. those who give their all, so we can have the best they can possibly give us, are real heroes. thanks to all of them

Rob I hear you. Music cuts through the fear and the pain and the sheer boredom of being sick. It gives you that chance to experience joy, to relive the thrill of your youth and to touch the Divine (if you believe). I still slog through this cancer nonsense and understand the monotony and monastic existence. I keep the music on all the time and I guess my Floyd obsession is my escape. Translating it to my piano is my therapy - still trying to keep me cognitively sharp and to lift my spirits. Hugs.

It's greatness like this that reminds me of just how lucky I was to have grown up in the 60's & 70's. From Major Tom to Money to Suite:Judy Blue Eyes, all of the Beatles and Cream, the Doors and early Stones through Purple, Zeppelin & Sabbath, Bad Co, Elton John, the Airplane, the Allman Bros and on and on forever ... the best music in history was written by giants such as these. To still listen today is just proof that they created the soundtracks of our lives. From the golden age of rock and roll to our golden years, this music that we call ours can never be duplicated. From the cradle to the grave, music has been the one constant in my life. To those that have gone before, and to those still here today, I thank you all for every word, every note, every riff and backbeat that shaped our lives, warmed our hearts and souls and made each day on this earth much better than we ever dreamed possible.

Think about those of us who are old enough to have seen them! It hurts more than to have loved and lost than never have loved at all! It breaks my heart to know I'll never be able to see that again. Those concerts are the only shows I've ever seen that memory NEVER fades! I remember each and every one like it was just last night. Because it wasn't just a concert. It was an environment that you walked into. It enveloped the entire building! There was no such thing as a bad seat either. Sometimes, I deliberately got mid section up off the floor because you had to be back far enough to take it all in! It's nice to see that they continue to live on from generation to generation. I loved all three of the post Waters albums too. M. L. O. R. was during a time when legalities were still being hammered out..but, by The Division Bell, Rick Wright was fully reinstated and it was the first time since Dark Side that the band ALL worked as one collective unit. Each of the three remaining members have contributions that are distinct and stand out in all of the songs. Sometimes, I wonder what it would have been like if Division Bell and Endless River were released as a double like The Wall was. It's very clear that they belong together. I'm in the middle of mixing that double right now! It's a bit difficult because they always overlap from one song into the next, but there are areas that fit perfectly. When you listen to them, you can easily tell that they both came from the Division Bell recordings. And, like W. Y. W. H. and On an Island, they are about personal conflict and disagreement. Poles Apart and Lost for Words are direct references to Roger Waters. "... So, I open my door to my enemies and I ask: 'could we wipe the slate clean?' But, they tell me to please go and fuck myself. Ya know, you just can't win."

I can't listen to The Final Cut. It is awful and I hate to say that about a Pink Floyd album. Roger offered it to Dave and Nick as a Pink Floyd album which they agreed to. But he would have done the same album as a solo if they had said no. He dictated everything on that album then quit the band because no one was contributing.
I did however like Rogers 1st two solo efforts, Pros & Cons and Radio Chaos, not so much Amused to Death. Once he got all rights to The Wall in a settlement that allowed Dave, Nick and Rick to use the Pink Floyd name (in a lawsuit he, to his credit, admits was wrong) and proceeded to tour The Wall for the next 3 decades, one of which I saw and loved. My problem with Roger is not his talent or his ability, but his insistence on interjecting his political opinions into everything he does. Many of which I agree with. But I listen to music as an escape. If I can't get that escape with his music, I go to music I can get it. I think overall both Pink Floyd and Roger Waters suffered creatively and musically when Roger left the band.
I liked both of Ricks solo efforts, Wet Dreams and Broken China. I have not heard any of his duo effort called Zee and indeed just learned of it, I will have to look that up.
