David is a true genius, one can see that with his wife Polly and with his broad family he has reached very near true happiness and this has a fundamental influence on his music, this man has reached illumination. What an awesome performance!
Minds speak. Actions speak. Mouths speak. But how rare it seems for a soul to speak, and so clearly that another can "hear" it in his own soul, and be touched beyond words. That is the gift in David Gilmour; and so liberally does he give it away. His music creates a moment which cannot be described or transferred, only experienced.
Love the studio version, but, well, yeah. Tonnes more energy here, the studio album is almost laid back, in spite of the tune so obviously calling for something more
God this is a great song. I have fallen completely in love with the live versions, particularly the one with Crosby and Nash. I have listened to it dozens of times and I always think about the first girl I was ever intimate with. 'We lay side by side, between the moon and the tide, mapping the stars for a while. Let the night surround you. We're halfway to the stars. Ebb and flow, let it go. Feel her warmth beside you.....', Yes, I remember that night. Wonderful. Play this song at my Wake.
As a Musician Who Plays the Guitar it Really is a Wonder he is a The Only man to Produce a sound like that Every single time i watch him i'm a Child again with those starry Eyes in awe
This song, this venue, this date in Gdansk marks the best performance of "On an Island" by David Gilmour if we dare call any of them the best. Cudos to Jon Carin for his sweats and efforts and love for David's music! Jon is a superb MUSICIAN.
This is one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs of all time. Jon Carin and "El Terifico" really shine on this song. David Gilmour is in top form for this solo and more than rivals the studio version. "El Terifico" is just flat out of sight on this solo/dou! I adore the strings and this is one hell of an orchestra! Thank you David Gilmour for all of the happiness your music brings me. Great job Jon Carin in the production of this concert and I am so proud of you keeping Pink Floyd's music sounding live and well mixed!

Have never seen Waters and never want to. Saw Gilmour this year and it was a 15 on a scale of 1/10. His solo stuff is incredible. Just sad that he never plays anything from his first solo album which I think was probably some of his best songs. On an Island from a musical standpoint was top notch, it just doesn't get much better than this. He is a musical genius and his tone on the guitar is as good as it gets.
Agreed. Would love to have heard him do There's No Way Out Of Here, or even Murder from his second album. I hope I'm wrong, but last year's tour may be the last we'll see of him live given that he's now in his 70s, and it would have been nice to just sneak in a couple of the old ones. But I'm glad I got to see him twice on his RTL tour. I saw him in September 2015 and again in September 2016, and the latter one was about twice as good as the former, with an absolutely belting final Comfortably Numb.
I've seen Roger Waters. Best night of my life. I do suspect that seeing Gilmour would be even more best, though. If only he'd tour again... fingers crossed!
I have seen David twice(during this 2006/2007 tour for OAI and as a girl for my HS Graduation) and Roger twice also. All four shows at Radio City Music Hall/MSG/Nassau Veterans/Beacon Theatre or Barclays for the last one. Anyway, David was epic and had guest vocals from Graham Nash @ Dave Crosby among others. Roger just played the 1979 album The Wall for the umpteenth time with some good special effects and pyrotechnic work at MSG. As a die hard fan of The Glimmer Twins and British Rock and Roll, the Gilmour shows are just of superior quality and intimacy than his band mate, maybe Syd would agree.
Probably he is the best or (for somone) one of the best because he play simply and straight to the heart. No joke, no trick. Nothing. Clean notes stright to the heart.
[Verse 1] Remember that night White steps in the moonlight They walked here too Through empty playground, this ghosts town Children again, on rusting swings getting higher Sharing a dream, on an island, it felt right [Pre-Chorus] We lay side by side Between the moon and the tide Mapping the stars for a while [Chorus] Let the night surround you We're halfway to the stars Ebb and flow Let it go Feel her warmth beside you [Verse 2] Remember that night The warmth and the laughter Candles burned Though the church was deserted At dawn we went down Through empty streets to the harbour Dreamers may leave, but they're here ever after
David Gilmour guitar artist extraordinaire !! The guitar , the music , the lyrics, just a sensation thru a song transport you to "on an Island " state of soul and mind . best guitar player ever ... my modest opinion. best regards jch
+Juan Carlos Henao Hurtado Gilmour has often been unfairly overlooked in the discussion of "greatest guitarists", since he lacks the speed and flash that some are judged by. I'm in agreement with you, his solos have incredible intelligence, depth, gravity, and SOUL.
I am not entirely sure in my mind as to what is David's finest guitar solo? However, this must surely rank right up there with his best ever and may even eclipse Comfortably Numb. A truly superb solo performance from the maestro.
I am sorry to say, but this solo should have some top honors from David Gilmour himself. "El Terifico" is just flat off the hook in this solo/duo!!!! I love and cherish your music David! Thank you for your tireless efforts to produce the finest grade of music that has ever existed! Thank you to Jon Carin for producing this masterpiece of a concert which in my opinion is Hall of Fame quality production. Thanks Jon for your tireless efforts with both David Gilmour and Roger Waters in concert! I am proud of you Jon!!!!!
The first time I listened to this live in Gdansk version of this great song, well it moved me to tears. The soul, the feeling, the emotion that Sir David so effortlessly exudes is special. I am not sure if there has ever lived a more talented rock musician than this man. His vocals are like velvet, his lyrical collaboration with Polly is a match made in heaven, and on top of his incredible guitar playing he can pick up other instruments and make them sing as well. He is absolutely a treasure and seeing him live before I die is definitely on my bucket list.
Wow ! I will take it to heaven with me It propels you beyond imagination Awesome experience that is where it takes you !! Love love love ! Thank you for playing on this planet !!
Just magnificent .. I could watch this video a thousand times...great musicians and guitarist are always overlooked because they are pure music and nothing else...and they always seem to not care about any other crap in the music industry ...so many great guitarist overlooked Gilmour, Gary moore, Ritchie blackmore !
David----- is the legend of all guitarist ! He is a natural --- unbelievable --- i am in shock !!! God blessed him, with this one of a kind of talent !
love this concert! Gdansk! bad ass! 😊💓but I tell you what! love all of this music! but when the strings happenes, an i wasn't expecting the strings! all i can say all of the music, his voice, the lyrics! combined? chills! lol! awesome! 😊💓

The master of the "less is more" philosophy

Envious guitarists unite!
David Gilmour's guitar playing is next to none. unbelievable. I can listen to this track only, at least for 24 hours nonstop.
David Gilmour Is One of the best guitarrists, amazing.
Mrpintias your spot on
This song is insane
David Gilmour is THE Guitarist!
I'm an old Santana's fan,but..
Gilmour is the GOAT!
I can listen him hours
i can't help but feel that his guitar skill normally overshadows his equally good singing
sundar mann Yeah, he's such a mind-blowing guitarist, people tend to forget that his voice is as gorgeous as his playing.

Hey just to inform, this is actually David Gilmour's song from his solo album ' On an Island'.
Gimour, Wright and Pratt together is almost Pink Floyd. 😊

Goosebumps...beautiful song!
Dave’s 2 minute solo at the end is on another level!
Waaaaaaa!!!! I love that melancholy and sublime guitar. Wonderful.
the sound....that solo is too wonderfull, but that agressive sound is the key...
his mind becomes one with his Axe,tripping through the universe
R.I.P Rick
Choking up a little seeing and hearing him here. He seems happy.
been listening to the Endless River the last few days....RIP Rick indeed
[Verse 1]
Remember that night
White steps in the moonlight
They walked here too
Through empty playground, this ghosts town
Children again, on rusting swings getting higher
Sharing a dream, on an island, it felt right

[Verse 2]
Remember that night
The warmth and the laughter
Candles burned
Though the church was deserted
At dawn we went down
Through empty streets to the harbour
Dreamers may leave, but they're here ever after
This is really great. The song has come alive, live.
