PLEASE COVER VITAL ESSENTIALS & MORE RAW FOOD!!! I have been loving Vital Essentials freeze-dried cat food and treats. You showed pictures of them at the beginning of your video, but you haven't covered it? Would love more content on Vital Essentials Raw & Instinct Raw. I know Vital Essentials makes frozen raw, but I haven't seen it available anywhere yet. Also, Tiki Cat came out with a Raw frozen but I haven't seen it anywhere but a picture on their website.
Hi I’m new here, great video, I’d love to see a UK/ European brands version as I don’t recognise any of these brands. Just putting it out there in hope :)
I have to feed my cat Hills Science CD, prescription food because of his renal dysfunction. Do you have any of these high-quality foods that he could consume? Please let me know I would much rather give him healthy food instead of this stuff
Depends on the cat❤ Some have various food allergies that can mess them up. Some need specialty foods. But most importantly, the most natural the better❤

Most cat food on the market (especially dry) is full of fillers, carbohydrates and crap your cat shouldn't even ever eat. Cats are obligated carnivores. They aren't even supposed to eat grains, legumes or vegetables.
Unfortunately it is.. I switched my cats to an all wet food diet and it’s stressful. I’m considering getting a raw subscription since I’m spending more than twice on my monthly budget
Good for you to do your homework first. I cant tell you how hard I find it to educate my neighbors friends and family on pet nutrition and how to read labels THEY ALWAYS RESIST and want FAST AND CHEAP AND EASY and really don't want to know how toxic most all today's commercial pet foods really are . Especially brands like PURINA . I wouldn't feed that garbage to a RAT
Nulo literally has saved so many cats here at my rescue. I can't even begin to count them. When a kiddo doesn't want to eat, I reach for nulo. We are a rescue of about 60, And we absolutely make sure we budget in to make sure Nulo is our main go to. We also have to supplement with dry, because we are a rescue and it's a shoestring budget, but another contender that I would like to add would be the mosse, amazing!
You have helped me more than you know! Thank you. I have been making myself crazy looking for the best food that I can afford. I finally found a food I could afford and hits all the good buttons including him loving the food, which was Nulo. Seeing your assessment of the foods couldn't have made me happier. Thank you for investigating and being so thoroughly. I appreciate it! Linda
I would love to see a video like this one for kittens! I’m getting two new kittens in a few weeks and I’m so overwhelmed trying to make sure I pick the best foods for them to grow and develop.
Thank you for making this video. There is a lot of negativity in the comments about these prices, or the prices in general. I don't know why they are taking it out on you. You are showing us nutrition levels in food and I appreciate it.
Thanks! I get the complaints about pricing; it's incredible how costly everything is, and sometimes, it might feel like recommending expensive food is out of touch and not sensitive to the real concerns most of us have about affording the best for our cats.
@@AllAboutCatsYT Ironically, home made human food is much cheaper than most commercial cat food. Chicken thighs $1.69 lb. Ground beef $5.99 lb. Purina One $6.40 lb. Hill's Adult 1-6 $7.04 lb.
Thank you very much for these reviews, including sending the samples for independent lab tests! I am not sure if I am using the best link to view the lab reports - for example, I am not sure if you ever have repeated measurements (after getting reports that include things like cyanide for the Kirkland Signature Maintenance report), or if the different years in one printed report mean that the same result can appear in multiple rows if re-tested?
Good thoughts. We're working on finding some new labs to work with and do want to update some of these older reports, and I would ultimately like to transfer all of the data to a more well-interpreted, interactive custom report, perhaps with updates from multiple rounds of testing over time. It's just a matter of coordinating with the team and prioritizing the task, so I appreciate your encouragement to move in that direction. Thank you so much for the donation as well; it means a lot.
My cat is so picky and changes his mind every day. We tried smalls, he wouldn't eat it. He won't eat Tiki cat anymore. Nothing shredded. No pate's. He was eating Darwin's raw but decided he was sick of it. All he wants is kibble, and I really would prefer him to have a diet with more variety. I'm going to try some of your other recommendations and hopefully get him on a healthy path.
My kitty was the same she didn’t like smalls as well wouldn’t eat it. Was such a kibble addict. We are now only on kibble for her morning meal and then she is on wet food the rest of the day. We are using Weruva Cats in the Kitchen or their Rainbow a GoGo variety packs. If i ever find she is being a little picky I put a few bits of kibble on the wet food and she eats it all up including the wet food
I tried the small food on the expensive side in my cat hated it would not eat it I ended up giving it to a neighbor's cat to eat I have a very picky cat
Our cats would not eat Smalls either. Tried a bunch of flavors as well. And frankly I hate subscriptions like this, I don’t care about the price, I just want to buy what we want when we want it.
@@dcm703I rescue cats, TNR, personally have 7 cats and is cat specialist at Pet store. I have people coming in daily with pancreatic, UT, and kidney issues. I ask what food they are feeding the kitty and every person is feed crap not quality foods. Many on dry only. Please do not get an animal if you are going to feed them dangerous foods putting your cat in pain and shortening their lives
My Savannah has eaten Orijen for a couple of years, and she suddenly started throwing it up. The vet can’t find anything wrong w/ her, so she suspects a sensitivity. (She also gets wet.) Quality cat food is expensive, but owning any pet is, if you’re concerned about their health. I understand there are people who can’t afford these, but Nulo is a good option. Even if that’s the cat’s wet food, it’s a good option for those who love their cat, but are on a tight budget. It shouldn’t be this difficult to find good food for your pet!! Thank you for going down this rabbit hole!
i can't explain how grateful i am for you and the love, dedication and hard work you put into researching and compiling information like this. i am such a neurotic and anxious cat mom (and have a poultry-allergy cat which is DIFFICULTtttt) and i'm CONSTANTLY trying to make sure my boys are getting the healthiest and safest food, treats, toys, litter-- everything! and the internet is soooo fraught with not only useless but wrong (or mysteriously funded by definitely not sketchy huge corporate pet food distributors) information, so it's SUCH a relief to have your well-researched, lab-tested and articulated videos to take some of the burden of that endless investigation off of my plate.
I have been feeding my cat Rawz for the past three years and anyone that wants to feed this brand should know that all pate recipes include ground bone. This is roughly ground bone so you may have to pick out the larger bone shards from the food before you feed. Nulo, Tiki, CORE, and KOHA also have bone as well. Cat with CKD may have a problem with this food as they are higher in Phosphorus.
It would be nice to see the analysis done on foods that contain fish. I worry about the mercury levels in cat food with fish in it and it's hard to find affordable cat foods that my cats like that don't contain fish.
Seconding this! One of my cat's is apparently sensitive to fish. We avoid all fish protein (and xanthan gum) in his food. Fish oil seems to be fine. He is also very picky! The cat foods he eats are: Nulo Freestyle Silky Mousse Chicken & Duck Recipe, and Vital Essentials Vital Cat Freeze-Dried Grain-Free Chicken Mini Nibs Cat Food.
Spoiler alert (because I agree): Open Farm may be a good quality food, but it is extremely "fishy" even though the flavor is Turkey & Chicken. I try to limit the amount of fish for my two.
Fish flavor is addictive to cats. That is why a lot of cat food, and almost all dry food, has some fish in it. Otherwise, the cats would not eat it. Menhaden fish oil sound familiar? Fish has Omega 3 fatty acids that cats need. Sardines, trout, mackerel and wild caught salmon are all safe choices for cats. I never give my cats any farm raised fish. Too many bad things about it and they are full of antibiotics. Fish should be no more than 5% of a cat's diet.
@@MichelleW One of my cats could not eat chicken for awhile. She outgrew it and now eats fresh chicken thigh meat all the time. Fish or fish oil is in most cat food. It is good that you found some that your cat will eat. Have you found a source for omega 3 fatty acids? Fish is the most common source for cats. But there are other foods and supplements. Glad your cats are being well taken care of.
For whatever reason my rescue cat only eats wet food (teeth are fine - vet checked) . But now I add fresh cat grass cut in tiny pieces on top for his fiber, and he loves it. Cats intuitively know what they need

JUST FYI: My Daughter's cat had severe tummy issues. They were rx'd by their Vet to give canned Pumpkin (not the pie mix that has the seasonings, etc..), but simply the 100% solid canned pumpkin and the diarrhea/messy litter box finally was corrected!!! YAY.

@@pwood6532health science diet microbiome dry food was a problem because my cat would never get full and always beg for food. So I switched her to wet food and she's doing much better.
I tried different canned foods. However, the litter box smell was horrible. I did some research and came across Smalls, I gave it a try. I am happy to say all 3 of my babies love it, and there is absolutely no litter box smell. I highly recommend Small. The only thing is there is no phone call. Everything is handled via email, hoping this changes in the future
I'm glad you showed Nulo, as I just switched to that, although I got Indoor Dry. My cat loves it! I feed dry with a little wet each day & I monitor her weight. She used to like Blue Buffalo dry, but not anymore - they got taken over by General Mills & it's not the same. I was giving a frozen raw (forgot which kind) as a treat, but they changed the ingredients & she rejected it. The vet said if I give her just pate all the time that I would have to have her teeth cleaned regularly - I don't like that idea & that's why I give both. :)
We have two senior cats that have to eat completely opposite foods. One has renal failure and the other has diabetes. Both have issues with IBS too. Please do a video recommending foods for these three senior ailments!
I don’t even care about the price so much as long as it’s the healthiest option I can afford and my cat likes her food. I’ve been feeding my cat a mix of different dry foods, including Taste of the Wild brand, with Tiki Cat broth toppers and Merrick Purrfect Bistro pate cans. She’s not too picky and likes her food currently but I want to switch up her dry food to something healthier with freeze-dried bits. Thanks for your thorough research!
I was feeding my cat the expensive Royal Canin PR diet for inflammatory bowel disease and for some reason the fur fell out on her ears. The vet said it could be genetic pattern balding but once we switched to Nulo, her hair grew back. We now feed her the wet food with a little hard food on top and she can't get enough! She refuses to eat anything else. We fed it to her on out vet's recommendation because she quit eating her royal canin food for a while. Nulo is amazing!
Don't fall for these vet recommendations! Those foods are the WORST! And meant to line their pockets. Those are FULL of GMO's, fillers and inflammatory ingredients. Check out Jackson galaxy's videos on cat diets. Doctors do not know best when it comes to nutrition. This is no different than for people!
Just a heads up Dr. Elsey's clean protein has almost doubled since Jan 2023. In Jan I purchased a 6.6lb bag for $37 but now in Aug the same 6.6lb bag is $62. I think I'll try making my own cat food.
I’ve heard viva raw is a good raw food brand if that’s what you’re into, they sell complete diets or just the meat where you can add your own supplements
I didn’t even notice this. I’m so pissed off now but Thankyou either way for letting people know. Has to check my Amazon history because I knew I used to he r it for $37 and when you said that it stuck out to me, but I didn’t even notice it had changed so fast, I got my last bag or $37 in April and then was only getting the small bags while they were in sale after that. But either way the price has spiked so much it’s not okay. I’m so sick and fucking tired of price gouging multi millionaires and billionaires.
Just a psa, i was going to buy nulo based on this cideo and there have been a LOT of negative reviews on chewy and petsmart for them. A lot of people's cats have been refusing the food or getting sick from it recently. Based on the reviews i would not be surprised to see a recall on them soon.
My two cents? My cats eat Nulo and like most of the wet food offerings, but when I found out Petsmart carried it at a discount (the dark labels) and bought casepacks? Cat's wouldnt eat any of it. Returned everything I could and went back to the white labelled Nulo. They say there is no difference between the two Nulos, but my cats beg to differ and I trust them more than I trust corporations.
I use Smalls as something they get at night. I have two Scottish Folds, turning one in Oct. for now they have access to Science Diet Indoor Kitten dry food. One pack of Smalls lasts three days. I can’t afford to only feed Smalls. I’ve been looking into making my own. Not sure it’ll be their only food because I’m worried they may not get all the nutrients they require
You should know that Hills is owned by the company that makes Colgate toothpaste and Palmolive soap... I doubt they know what cats need. Be careful. And an interesting fact: this is the food recommended by veterinarians, not only in the US, but also in Europe (I live there and there). It's weird 🤔 I think this company pays a percentage to veterinary clinics so that they recommend their food. Maybe I'm paranoid 🤷🏽♀️ but I doubt Colgate knows the diet of cats... I used to love Hills, but switched to Rawz... and now I'm thinking of getting Smalls... it's expensive, but cheaper than suffer and cry later, paying a lot of money to fight for the lives of my old pets
Hi Mallory, thanks for the thorough review! I know you mentioned Wellness Core, but I was wondering how you feel about the Wellness Complete Health grain free paté line? I've been thinking about switching to that one, specifically the chicken and turkey flavors (I want my cat to have at least two flavor options). The ingredients seem decent and I don't see anything in the nutritional label that feels iffy. Not sure if you'll see this comment, but thanks in advance if you decide to answer! 😊

@@davids.1420Why do you want them to eat kibble? Dry food is not ideal for them. As you know, cats are obligate carnivores. They get most of their hydration from their prey. They don't have the drive to drink a lot of water. A cat that eats a lot of kibble will be dehydrated. Over time this is one of the causes of kidney disease in cats. In addition to lacking moisture dry cat food is generally much higher in carbohydrates than is healthy for cats. Cats need meat and fat, they don't need corn or peas or starches. There are good quality dry foods, freeze-dried foods and other foods with more meat but even the best dry food should not not make up their entire diet. A little bit of good quality dry food is generally fine in a healthy cat but it is so much better for them to eat wet food if at all possible.
@@Kyarrixsometimes dry is the best option. I’ll feed dry rather to see my cat starve. To give you a palpable example: last moth my cat was diagnosed with CKD. Bought the food, did my best to adapt her, but she didn’t like it or she’ll vomit. After very stressful days, I had enough. Went to offer her dry food from wholehearted. She ate!!! We now do use the treatments and considerations for her CKD and a pate that’s appropriate, but I’ll complement her diet with a bit of dry food and supplements.
@@4SunnyinMiami2 mine, because it isn't a particularly good food. I would probably not feed my cats fancy feast. I feed them Feline Natural which is a high quality food. They also get Nulo pouch food because it's very hydrating and they seem to like it. Generally speaking supermarket cat food is not ideal. It's convenient but not the best.
Thank you so much for this video. I am not a Cat mom yet but will be getting a Kitten in about 3 months or so. I have started to do the research so that I am well prepared. I will surly subscribe to your channel as soon as I become a Cat mom!!
Great video! From what I know about cat food, which is a lot but not as much as you, this all lines up for me. I've tried a lot of these foods. My favorite is Nulo because even my pickiest cats love it, and I feel good feeding it.
Please talk about freeze dry cat food choices. I recently switched from Nulo kibble to Stella and Chewy freeze dry because mu cat refused to eat it. He is 2 and loves the freeze dry. Tried Dr. Marty's also. He only enjoyed the chicken and chicken topper. Saying this, he will eat Purina Naturals kibble in green package. My feral will also eat this. Please advise and I appreciate your advice. ❤ Oh, he likes Sheba and Fancy Feast for the wet food. My feral likes Friskies wet. I know Friskies has faults. Im retired and on a budget. Can't even get a collar on her. ❤
My two female cats (1 year old Ragdoll sisters) are used to dry food. Initially I wanted to try Dr Elsey's cat food but I too read a lot of negative remarks ever since they made changes to cut costs so I went to Open Farms Raw mix but they don't really seem to like it that much so I tried there regular formula and had the same reaction. Is there any other top grade dry cat food you can recommend for I am at my wits end and now they are now both starting to loose weight. Thanks!
Thank you this helps so much. I have a senior cat with kidney disease and putting her on a prescription diet is way out of my budget these days. I suppose like humans one shoe doesn’t fit all sizes. You have to take into account their age, genetics, personal tastes and overall health.
My boy is 7 and he'll be 8 years old next year! I'm guilty of feeding him mostly 9 Lives Complete dry food. I want him to have the best nutrition to keep him healthy. I need to try some of these foods with him.
Hi, I have a senior cat that almost 14. Im looking for the best senior cat wet food, do you have any recommendation? Im currently feeding him fancy feast seniors but he don't seem to like it much. Thanks
Good video. Thanks! I use dry cat food as dog food + whole raw eggs. I have 3 large breed outdoor mountain dogs. I mix kibble with 1:1 water for hydration. Do you have a list of best high protein (38% or higher) dry cat kibble that's available in grocery, farm/ranch, and discount stores? I want to have a list ready. We only have Walmart, Target, Natural Grocers, Petco, City Market (Kroger), and Tractor Supply Company stores available to us. I would also order it online if available for about the same price as in local stores with not much mark-up due to shipping. Maybe you've found some of these deals also? I'm looking to stay at or below $4 per dry pound. Thanks for any product information you may have! Peace
Great video, thank you! Have you tried the Wholehearted brand? We switched from Nulo- which our 5 cats still love- to this brand which they also seem to enjoy cause it's cheaper and was more readily available (we shop online). If you've tried it, how did its nutrition stack up?
Thanks for the excellent info. Have been considering going to try Smalls, and now I will. Also always watch your videos, easy to understand, informative. Easy on this old mans eyes as well.
My 15yo buff went from 20 to 10lbs in a 2-year period. Recently found out he’s battling extremely high thyroid levels. I’m so grateful for this video. Do you (or anyone here) have diet recommendations as I try to nurse him back to a tolerable level of health. He’s now on twice a day methimazole as well. Thank you, again. 🙏🙏🙏
My 17 yr old has been battling hyperthyroidism for about 5 years now, so good news they can live happily for quite awhile if you can keep it under control. The meds are obviously the biggest help & then making sure you follow up with routine bloodwork with the vet to monitor their levels, I had to up his dose last year. To help get some extra calories in his food I will get the Gerber meat only baby food & mix in with his regular food. To fatten him back up I was doing that daily but after he gained some weight back I cut it back to just 2-3 times a week. He really likes it & it is easy on their elderly bellies. Ham is his favorite. There are higher calorie cat foods too you can try to help him fatten back up, the non prescription foods I have used are Instinct Original & Wellness Core, both are canned. Tiki cat makes some high calorie treats called Comfort & some pretty good foods for seniors in their Silver line. Other than that I just try to keep him happy & appreciate the time I have with him.
Hey there. Sorry your kitty has been sick. Here are our recommendations for the best cat food for hyperthyroid cats: cats.com/best-cat-food-for-hyperthyroidism
Mallory, I need help! I learned that Wellness Core was bought by Petco so I felt less good about it and i've been TRYING to find another that my cats like, and I CAN'T....!!! I never thought they were picky but they really haven't eaten much in the last couple of days, not Nulu, Tiki, not Open Nature and maybe one or two others! They'll eat Dr. Elsey's kibble but I only give them that after they've eaten wet food. It's so frustrating. But they're running around and playing a LOT, so they feel ok. It's stressful when your stubborn babies don't eat. PS: I even tried Rawz and they didnt eat it. I guess it's a battle of wills lol
Rawz is a great and healthier alternative to friskies. And thank you for not feeding your cat just dry kibble! Especially fixed males- they need all the moisture they can get not to build up the crystallization in their urinary tract.
Hi i know u mentioned Nulo ... ... I bought it one time.. I want to know is this cat wet food is actually good for my cat he's a year old and 2 months.... I been giving him ZiWI grass fed beef wet food.... But it's been a little too expensive .... For a 6 oz can that has 12 can food in one case box. I buy this twice a month is 60$ which total up to 120$ plus tax a month...... With Nulo is 12 oz a can for 24 cans .. which is pretty good for about 40$ plus tax. Is it ok to buy Nulo for him .... ? ..
I love how informative these video's are and how mucu efford is being put into testing the foods. I just clicked the link to the website as i wanted to see the top 10 dry foods update. Unfortunatly nothing but the brand orijen is available in the netherland from that list. And i was wondering, is Orijen Regional Red a good one? Or is onky the six fish version a good one?
This was a really good video! I always see the brands but get nervous about my cats I have 2 heavy eaters, 1 Is ocd about their food, and the other just loves eating the other 2 of 4 are normal and eat like normal cats. Then I have 4 dogs so I have budgeted well but yet try and feed quality as best can afford
I pretty much only use dry kibble as a "treat". I pay a bit more for one that is grain free and seems to have some better ingredients than others. My cat walks up to the draw where she knows I keep the pack, looks at the drawer, looks at me, repeat! It's hard to say no, but it's winter here and I don't want her to put too much weight on (I'm sure she'd say that's rich coming from me!😄)
@@nana-iy4kj I'm in Australia, I don't think I mentioned this, so I'm sorry if this ends up being another dead end! The brand is "Fussy Cat", the bag with the kibble has "Grain Free" written right across the front so you can't really miss it. Having an allergy in a pet would be really frustrating. Especially because the ingredient lists can be hard to decipher, so you can't always be sure exactly where a particular ingredient came from 🧐 Wherever you are, all the best trying to find something that works that your little friend likes (and that doesn't break the budget!☺️)
My four plus the two fosters loved the Rawz canned food they were getting last year. Unfortunately, I had to discontinue it when my local pet supply store could no longer obtain it. They were apparently having problems obtaining canstock for packaging. As I now by a year's supply at a time, I had to switch back to Advantage. Hopefully I can go back to Rawz for next year. I buy flats of the little 3 ounce cans of the Nulo cat food and use them as caloric supplements for one of mine who is underweight, as well as for ferret treats.
My kitty has been mostly eating Wellness Core wet food and Ziwi Peak dry food. Jackson Galaxy posted a video about cat food and apparently the shredded wet food that I usually buy has starch to “mold” meat-like strips - which turned me off. I am going to look for a new wet food after I get through my auto-shipped orders that just arrived last week
this video is really helpful! I do have a few questions if you could answer them? 1 is is it okay to feed a cat only wet food? i heard that they need things to crunch on for their teeth? 2 is how much do you feed your cat of wet/dry food? Is there charts on the can/bag? and is it per pound? thank you!!
I have been buying Nulo for a while but am going to stop as I have noticed that there are a lot of big sharp bone chunks in the food. I told Chewy about it and they sent me a replacement order and every batch is the same.
I subscribed to Smalls and got specifically the chicken since my vet recommended my cats not eat anything with fish products in them (even tho they love them) since it was apparently affecting their teeth and stuff. The chicken flavor I ordered had no fish products so since then it's been a journey to find cat foods with no fish or fish relates products. Regardless, Smalls is worth it my cats LOVE them
Hi I’m new here, great video, I’d love to see a UK/ European brands version as I don’t recognise any of these brands. Just putting it out there in hope :)
Hey! I'm not sure when we'll be able to do that on the channel here, but we do have an article on the best cat food in the UK here: cats.com/best-cat-food-uk
A lot of people buy fancy feast but I never liked the animal byproduct ingredients but they came out with a new one gourmet naturals. Have you ever done a test on that? I don’t know if it’s basically the same thing and they’re just not saying buy product sometimes makes you wonder, or if it’s any more that much better than the original stuff?
Very informative, thanks, I want to give my senior rescue tuxedo kitty the best , he's not a picky eater but he has the occasional vomit with dry food , he still acts like a younger cat including jumping on me at 4am , he's hungry
Thank you. I have multiple cats and one cat has a fish allergy. I have to go through the ingredients on everything that come into the house. With your recommendations I don't have to worry about overall nutrition, just the fish. It really helps.

I need low carb, low phosphorus cat food. Is there such a thing that’s not going to break my budget? So far my 14 year old cat loves Dr Elsey’s dry cat food but it’s hit or miss with canned foods.
Thank you for one more incredible video with very high quality suggestions! I always use your feedback on any product I shop for. One thing I wanted to ask you, does "natural flavor" not concern you on the ingredients? If not, can you please elaborate what you know about it? I typically try to buy higher quality canned food for my kitties, but even the more expensive ones have that in them. Thank you in advance!
MALLORY I want to thank you from the bottom of my ❤️ heart. You may be asking why? Well while back. You came on youtube and talked about a food called “YOUNG AGAIN” and how it helps with diabetic cats. Well, as you probably don’t know, I have a diabetic cat that I was giving insulin to twice a day and every time I took him to the vet his numbers were high, even with the insulin and by the way, we were on the last insulin that we could try. His numbers were usually around 400 even getting up to 600s and he never seemed like he felt good. So when you talked about the food, I knew that I had to at least give it a shot. And I’m so happy that I did I spoke with the president of the company his name is Michael as you probably well know great guy very knowledgeable helped me in every way. He’s been on the zero mature formula which I believe has one carb if I’m not mistaken. He’s been on it for four weeks. I took him to the vet last week and his insulin is at 98! I couldn’t believe it I really could not believe that it worked. The vet told me no more insulin 🎉 now he’s active. He doesn’t sleep all the time and he is actually starting to play so again from the bottom of my heart. Thank you so much for everything that you do and I hope this reaches someone else who may have a diabetic cat. It’s worth a try because my cat is just another success story for this company.
Awww, so happy to hear about that! Young Again does seem like a great company, and while I don't talk about it often, I'm glad it was able to reach you and help you bring your cat into remission. Great job!
Boy, these prices are above my fixed income budget. I recently took in a feral cat that was pregnant, now I have a family of five. After having all spayed and neutered, and getting flea and tick meds, little is left for food. I wish you had some budget friendly suggestions. I will check your website, maybe more suggestions.
My cat loves pate, not the chunky bits. She does not like the expensive foods, more like the cheaper brands. I try to give her the best of the cheaper brands. I wish she would like the fancy foods.

At 5:00 you note Dr. Elsey's as a good dry (for those who want dry kibble, though wet is better) and the changes in it according to comments this year. I agree the ingredients have been the best for dry kibble. But right now (September 2023) the food is out of stock at both Amazon and Chewy. Dr. Elsey's is changing the formula, taking out the eggs and adding in hydrolyzed pork and pork plasma. I am concerned. I am wondering if you have any thoughts about those pork ingredients and the claims about them. I am thinking the research is too funded by the pork industry to trust it. Dr. Elsey's has excelled at having no plants, low phosphorus and carbs and high protein. But I trusted the egg formula better. Any thoughts?
Pork was the first meat they started injecting mRNA shots into the animals. Soon (if not already) to be adding beef cows to that. I would not be surprised if more pets start rejecting more and more pet food.
Hey I am living in Uae. I tried this Pro nutrition PRESTIGE cat food. My cat has adapted to it very fastly and I see my cat is more active now. Before my cat has formation of hairballs. Now it has very shiny hair and no balls . Its high protein level is very healthy for cat and their foods are grain free
It helps! Especially if your dry food is relatively low carb. That's what I do when I use kibble in combo with wet food to save money, and I like to soak it in cat safe bone broth instead of plain water too! You can find some pretty cheap or make it yourself, and when my money's tight I just soak one of my cats' meals in bone broth and the other 2 in water so I don't use it all so fast
My 9.25 lb kitten is addicted to Applause tuna salmon or chicken for kittens and Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers which the shelter gave him. Also he gets 0.5 cup dry of combination Applause for kittens and Purina Pro Plan dry for kittens
All of these are way out of my price range. I will stick with the Wellness large cans (about $54 a case) and combine it with some of their grain free for senior cats as all of my cats are over 13. I haven’t checked, but do you have a video of those of us with limited income? If not, I would love to see you make one.
Man That's a lot. That's why I've been making my cats' food for the last year almost. I have been using Dr. Lisa Pierson's recipe. My cats love it and they look very good. They hardly poop, but they pee a whole lot more than they used to when I fed them dry. I like it because I can control what's in it(edit). It costs me about $2.98 a day for two cats, with bone in chicken thighs at $1.99/lb.(Some skin and bone is removed, water and supplements added, etc.) It also costs about three to four hours, including shopping and cleaning, about once a month. Folks, Look into it. I like doing it. I would like to have my homemade cat food analyzed for nutritional value by a laboratory. Can you give me any advice on how to approach that?
Agreed, I have been prepping and feeding the "mouse model" raw for the past 2 years since I adopted my 1st of 3 cats. I do a rough grind of 80% muscle meat: chicken gizzards, hearts, thigh & drum, and pork loin, 10% bone--very rough chopped chicken necks for their teeth and jaw stimulation, and 10% organ--chicken and beef livers, also a spoon of sardines daily for Omega 3. It costs under $2 a day. I feed 3x a day, 50 grams each, they love it and have soft, silky coats like lacquer, with less shedding, odorless litter and excellent muscle tone. There is no mystery meat and not mushed up like baby food. It is an effort, but I don't need a lab to analyze that obligate carnivores have evolved to simply eat meat.

What do you think about Nulo dry cat food?
PLEASE COVER VITAL ESSENTIALS & MORE RAW FOOD!!!
I have been loving Vital Essentials freeze-dried cat food and treats. You showed pictures of them at the beginning of your video, but you haven't covered it? Would love more content on Vital Essentials Raw & Instinct Raw.
I know Vital Essentials makes frozen raw, but I haven't seen it available anywhere yet. Also, Tiki Cat came out with a Raw frozen but I haven't seen it anywhere but a picture on their website.
The code didn't work
Hi I’m new here, great video, I’d love to see a UK/ European brands version as I don’t recognise any of these brands. Just putting it out there in hope :)
I have to feed my cat Hills Science CD, prescription food because of his renal dysfunction. Do you have any of these high-quality foods that he could consume? Please let me know I would much rather give him healthy food instead of this stuff
It should not be this difficult to find good quality cat food
Depends on the cat❤ Some have various food allergies that can mess them up. Some need specialty foods. But most importantly, the most natural the better❤

Most cat food on the market (especially dry) is full of fillers, carbohydrates and crap your cat shouldn't even ever eat. Cats are obligated carnivores. They aren't even supposed to eat grains, legumes or vegetables.
Unfortunately it is.. I switched my cats to an all wet food diet and it’s stressful. I’m considering getting a raw subscription since I’m spending more than twice on my monthly budget
It’s this hard finding human food that isn’t full of fillers and cheap ingredients.
EDIT: she ate the nulo! So relieved she's eating.❤ thank you!
I'm preparing to adopt a senior cat. Trying to get all the essentials together.
I run recycle felines and I agree completely, nulo is amazing!
❤❤❤❤ and tiki baby
nulo wet ? i see there is a variety of nulo wet food wich one work better?
and can ypu share what dry food you feed please?
You have helped me more than you know! Thank you. I have been making myself crazy looking for the best food that I can afford. I finally found a food I could afford and hits all the good buttons including him loving the food, which was Nulo.
Seeing your assessment of the foods couldn't have made me happier. Thank you for investigating and being so thoroughly. I appreciate it!
Linda
Can you please share what brand? my purina one is not working for my cats at all and I want to do a switch
@@AllAboutCatsYT Great - thank you again! The channel and website is a good resource for the community!
Big spendaaaa
@@psyanerose7453My Maui loved Weruva initially but after 6 months will only eat it if I put some freeze-dried chicken treats in it.
I feel you, it's difficult to purchase safe foods and products in general
I have been feeding my cat Rawz for the past three years and anyone that wants to feed this brand should know that all pate recipes include ground bone. This is roughly ground bone so you may have to pick out the larger bone shards from the food before you feed. Nulo, Tiki, CORE, and KOHA also have bone as well. Cat with CKD may have a problem with this food as they are higher in Phosphorus.
CKD= chronic kidney disease
I’ve never seen bones in the Rawz cans😂
@@KikiMeowKittyThey grind the bone together with the meat, that's why
I officially recognize you have the most throughly tested channel on youtube, for cats. You’re my number 1 cat source now 😅
It would be nice to see the analysis done on foods that contain fish.
@@MichelleWmy floofy guy is similar, anything with shrimp, seafood and most fish cause him to immediately projectile 🤮 no fun for anyone involved.
The info on cat food you've given us has helped our cats so much. Thank you for giving us more time with them. We love our cats so much.

YAY.
Diarsanyl is also very helpful.you can also ask your vet about Hills Biome...gamechanger.

The litter box smell test is the easiest way to tell the quality of the cat food.
My cats eat Smalls as well. No smelly poop and their coats are so lustrous and like velvet. I can’t recommend Smalls highly enough.
They do return emails (? Texts) promptly
Yeah, I also wish the support was better. My experience with CS by email or text has always been super prompt, though.
Smalls called me to see how my cat liked the food. And again after I texted them. I’m okay with that.
Shouldnt you be consulting your cat s doctor on managing their medical conditions...rather than a youtube channel?
@@pwood6532 correct. We have a world class vet looking after our two cats. Thousands of dollars spent on them. Always looking for other options.
My cats tail fell off the other day how long does by take to grow back
Thank you for the recommendations and lab work. I really appreciate it.
Royal canin is crap food. Check Jackson Galaxy. Has chemicals that are bad.
Royal Canin is garbage. They pay vets to push their crappy food
Yes I used to spend $40 on the 6.6 bag.
I got it for $57 (shipping included) on Amazon last week
there's a channel with a lady who does up raw foods, she shows you how..my Cat is so picky, doesn't like fish stuff, chicken, beef even,,
I’ve heard viva raw is a good raw food brand if that’s what you’re into, they sell complete diets or just the meat where you can add your own supplements

I really appreciate what you are doing and sharing your research for our cats!! You are incredible!! Thank you!
@@veganconservative1109 which are the white labels? this food has been highly recommended to me.

And yes thank you so much for all of your time and money you have spent helping us to make the best possible decisions for our situation! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much!! the last one was a lifesaver!!
My cat is a senior cat and she has a problem with keeping weight on. Thank you for your videos. You have the best information.
Thank you so much for your website! What a wealth of knowledge!

My picky boy will only eat Fancy Feast. I’ve tried all kinds of other foods with little luck.
Nothing at all wrong with Fancy feast.
What cat isn't addicted to Fancy Feast?

Great video! From what I know about cat food, which is a lot but not as much as you, this all lines up for me. I've tried a lot of these foods. My favorite is Nulo because even my pickiest cats love it, and I feel good feeding it.
You should send an email to Nulo telling them this. Alex in customer care might send you a care package of coupons and free sample of their food.

Thank you so much for this information! My cat is my baby and I am grateful to you for providing this information
Thank you so much for posting this video. It’s nice to know the options available.
Thank you this helps so much. I have a senior cat with kidney disease and putting her on a prescription diet is way out of my budget these days. I suppose like humans one shoe doesn’t fit all sizes. You have to take into account their age, genetics, personal tastes and overall health.
Are any of these foods WSAVA compliant?
Thank you so much for your recommendations! I really enjoy your videos💜Could you also do a review on Viva Raw's Complete Cat Food?
Your test subject always makes me smile 🐈
Thank you so much for this!! Extremely helpful video! I really appreciate you all! 😊💕
My boy is 7 and he'll be 8 years old next year! I'm guilty of feeding him mostly 9 Lives Complete dry food. I want him to have the best nutrition to keep him healthy. I need to try some of these foods with him.
Not sure that 9 Lives is considered a good cat food.
Peace
What do you think about Ziwi peaks? or Farmina?
I love Smalls. It does not stink and my cat loves it. Thank you for this!
Thank you for looking into these. I’m curious what you think about the other Weruva lines and how they stack up.
thanks for doing the research and sharing the information. Hoping you do a 2024 video
Wow this is an amazing video, thank you
Great video, thank you!
Easy on this old mans
eyes as well.
@@davids.1420did you tried Birdie&Louie has 5 free samples
I pretty much only use dry kibble as a "treat". I pay a bit more for one that is grain free and seems to have some better ingredients than others. My cat walks up to the draw where she knows I keep the pack, looks at the drawer, looks at me, repeat! It's hard to say no, but it's winter here and I don't want her to put too much weight on (I'm sure she'd say that's rich coming from me!😄)
can you share the name of the brand that is grain free, im looking for that option and it’s hard to find a good one, my cat is allergic to grains
@@loretta_3843 thank you so much, I really appreciate it!
Is there charts on the can/bag? and is it per pound? thank you!!
Is N&D Wet food a good choice?
Farmina is a good brand, and we recommend their food as one of the good options out there! cats.com/farmina-cat-food-review
Regardless, Smalls is worth it my cats LOVE them
Smalls is proper cat food! I'm looking into changing my cat to this brand.
P.ease, can you tell me what lab you use to test the foods?
A lot of people buy fancy feast but I never liked the animal byproduct ingredients but they came out with a new one gourmet naturals. Have you ever done a test on that? I don’t know if it’s basically the same thing and they’re just not saying buy product sometimes makes you wonder, or if it’s any more that much better than the original stuff?
Very informative, thanks, I want to give my senior rescue tuxedo kitty the best , he's not a picky eater but he has the occasional vomit with dry food , he still acts like a younger cat including jumping on me at 4am , he's hungry
For us European viewers: is there any chance you can also review cat food (especially raw options) available in the EU or UK?
Bella & Duke is a great raw cat food option! It's a brand available in the UK.

Do you also recommend the wellness core kitten dry food?
Great job!
@@AllAboutCatsYT Michael also asked me how I heard about the company and I did give him your name and all about cats website. Thx again mallory!
My sweet girl has lukemia, what would you recommend and how can I get the best food for her,
Boy, these prices are above my fixed income budget.

Can you please do a video on the best foods for those of us who have many rescued cats that can keep the price down? Thank you.
Thanks for the question! Here's our video on the best budget-friendly cat food: ua-cam.com/video/rBLRdbv3JHI/v-deo.html&
Hope this helps!
Thank you! Getting a kitting next weekend! I will start her with the kitten food you recommended 😊
Would soaking a high quality dry food in water before serving have similar benefits to wet food? I’d like to try that for budget reasons.
I was hoping for a recommendation for cats with uti issues. -any thoughts ? Thanks so much for your research ❤
My 9.25 lb kitten is addicted to Applause tuna salmon or chicken for kittens and Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers which the shelter gave him. Also he gets 0.5 cup dry of combination Applause for kittens and Purina Pro Plan dry for kittens
I don’t know what addictive stuff Fancy Feast gravy lovers has in it, but alas my cat adores it - won’t eat these healthier brands
All of these are way out of my price range. I will stick with the Wellness large cans (about $54 a case) and combine it with some of their grain free for senior cats as all of my cats are over 13. I haven’t checked, but do you have a video of those of us with limited income? If not, I would love to see you make one.
I'm sorry that you are poor...
