Hey! I'm getting a new cat by the end of March/early April from a foster that has been caring for a mother and her kittens. I was looking into Dr. Elsey's, and also noticed through it cat foods being labelled as for "All Life Stages". What's your thought on that kind of food? You think an "All Stages" kind of food would be good for a kitten? I actually contacted them and they confirmed it as an all stages food, but I was curious to hear your thoughts, as far as nutrition and if you think the nutrition you see from them matches up to what a kitten needs. I'd really appreciate feedback, either way. :)
@@kacievines7981 ask them to send you samples. They are awesome about that. I know kittens have unique dietary needs. I guess it depends on how old the kitten is. There's a difference imho between weeks old and months old. Also, I'd imagine, it would be important to keep the diet consistent when your kitty transitions from foster care to you. If the foster care provider has been fostering kittens and cats for awhile, have a conversation about how s/he made decision to use the current kitten food. I have found that those who have been fostering kitties have a lot of experience. And tbh, just because reviews are awesome, doesn't mean it's best for your kitten or cat. Last, talk to your veterinarian about nutritional needs and whether your new kitty is getting what a kitten needs from current diet provided from foster caregiver. These are just things that come to mind for me. As far as Dr Elseys Clear Protein, I wonder if it is too much protein for a kitten. Stick to what s/he has been eating for now. Good luck!

I like to keep my cats diet very varied because I don’t want him to become picky and so far so good! Thx for the video Mallory as always!! Very pleased to find out that your top recommendation and runner up (feline natural and ziwi peak) are among the only three brands I used to feed my kitties when they were on canned food!! My cat is currently eating ZIWI Peak wet and dry food and she love them. She don’t have any problems with this food, even though is pretty expensive compared with other brand of cat food, but I think it worth it. this video came out in perfect timing! my kittens are reaching their one year soon so i was needing to research good foods to transition them to. thank you!
I think I have watched every video but my cats may not care what is best, they like what they like. I have Persians and with their very flat faces, they just lick up the canned foods. Many of what you are recommended are simply too dry for them. Mine only like Fancy Feast Creamy Delights in Salmon. They will “eat “some of the other flavors but if it is a Creamy Delight shred, the shreds are left behind and the cream part is gone. As far as dry food, they like Royal Canin Savor Selective. I think part of it is that there are different shapes that they are able to grab with their tongues. Corn is the first ingredient which you don’t recommend and I really wouldn’t either, but eating it is more important than not eating anything. They are hold outs if I try to replace with something else - it is amazing how they can “pick” out the Royal Canin and leave the other foods behind. Savor Selective has been almost impossible to find with the supply chain issues, I was able to find some this week and promptly ordered 5 bags to hopefully hold me over until things get sorted out supply chain wise.
Hey first time having a cat. I got like a 6 week old calico cat. Thank you so much for your advice. 🙏 🐈 Btw, I actually was a cat hater. Now I love my new kitty 🐱🥰
In my own experience, rule of tumb: avoid cat food that contain any corn or wheat flour, never go for cheap food that overtime degrade the heath of the cat, choose the one with the higher level of animal or vegetal protein, never feed cat with dog food, read the labels, Purina or other premium foods probably not found in supermarkets but in pet stores gave me the best result.
@@bettyboop1524 If you can’t afford a pet then you shouldn’t have one. I know it may be an unpopular opinion, but having a pet is a privilege and a luxury. Making the decision to bring a living animal into your home and doing the bare minimum for them should not be seen as normal.

Thanks for your unbiased and thorough reviews! I recently found your channel and website. A shortcut to your website is now on my home page for easy access. I have also shared information from your reviews with fellow "feline guardians" (a term I've not heard until now).
Over the past 59 years (I got my first kitten for my 11th birthday and I just turned 70) I have had dozens of cats. In every case we bought whatever they would eat, every single bit was probably crap....Friskies, Cat Chow, Kibbles and Bits, the Walmart cheap stuff, etc. I would just fill a bowl and let them free feed. I don't remember why or when we started feeding them the wet stuff for breakfast. But it was a very rare occasion that any of them had any health problems. They were all active, playful and had soft, shiny coats. We shared whatever meat we were having with no I'll effects. Over the years more and more of the better, healthier foods have come along. But we continued to feed the same stuff they had all had for years. If it wasn't broke, why fix it? The past few years we have had just two so we moved up to Fancy Feast. Which now I've learned is no better. But they like it and they are thriving.
Look up CKD & Hartz delectables fish broths for old sick cats... Reg 500mg TUMS crushed up so only 200mg per for the cats daily meals is available as I was adding more calcium carbonate then needed & am guilt stricken thats what killed our belived Tom....if you cannot buy a aluminum phosphate binder from a vet be careful to measure how much your adding to your buddies diet.
Thank you so much for video & great guide. Stella & chewy’s salmon & chicken has been gotten 2 paws up from Espresso. Took a minute to soak She demanded more. We’ll try rabbit next.
I switched my cats' dry food to Dr Elsey's Clean Protein. It was a shaky transition but now that's done they are doing well. Been a month and cats are active and appear to be losing a bit of weight, the goal. Also got a One Fast Cat exercise wheel. This may take awhile.
Very impressed the only ones I didnot approve of was authority and Costco brand food! But so awesome with choices we do frommm, well ness, and whole hearted for our cats and Stella and chewy ..
When we adopted our first cat, I knew nothing about cats and from extensive research, decided to feed him Ziwipeak exclusively. Even though it’s suggested to slowly transition cats to a new food, I switched him cold turkey from the awful kibble he was getting at the shelter and he took to it immediately. He was super healthy and thriving on Ziwi for about 4 years and then they changed the formula. It used to be made with broth, and now it’s made with water and my cat won’t eat it anymore. I also had bought several cases trying to keep them interested that were completely dried out and seemed spoiled, which was very disappointing. I wanted to feed our second cat Ziwi, but couldn’t justify the price for food that kept getting wasted. So I scoured ingredients of all the expensive foods at our local pet store and bought Orijen, which cat 1 devours, and now snubs his nose at wet food. But I also now buy Instinct and Kona for cat 2 because I want her to only have wet food, but she loves to try to sneak the Orijen from cat 1 as well. Something about Orijen is very appealing even over the Ziwi dry food, which neither has ever been enthusiastic about. I may try a couple of the canned brands mentioned in the video for cat 1 since ideally I want him to eat wet food exclusively. Thanks for all of the info!
I always mix half fancy feast (which my cat always loves) with h half Ziwi peak or feline natural - that way she gets premium foods but as a mid range cost
What are your thoughts on petsmart simply nourish flaked food. Also I feed my cat soft and hard food. can I replace my soft food with the Stella and chewy freeze dried food
Simply Nourish's flaked food is okay, but not perfect. It's similar to Rachael Ray Nutrish flaked foods in terms of the types of ingredients and nutrient distribution. I wouldn't feel terrible about feeding it, but it's not one of the best foods on the market. Regarding the Stella & Chewy's being a replacement for soft food, absolutely! Good luck!
Thanks for the reliable reviews, I found your channel when I first adopted my cat and she has loved a lot of things you’ve recommended! What do you think about the cat food database website?
The orange actor cat in your video is lovely as are all orange 🍊 tabby 🐈 cats are! Thank you for researching cats are difficult to feed especially if you want to take good care of them I guess when starting off with kittens it should be easier to find a healthy diet prior to them deciding on what they are willing to eat & becoming picky. I have 2 adult strays who are picky. Thank you for your hard work
I have 6 cats and 4 are overweight and 1 has been diagnosed as diabetic😥😥😥. I struggle with what to feed them. I've fed them Fancy Feast pate classic and seafood and they love the Gravy Lovers too. I also bought Purina Pro Plan $45 for 16lbs
I would love to see a review of the cat pouch lick-able type treats? My senior cat that passed last November use to love the Hartz “senior bisque” one. We have recently adopted sibling 5 month old kittens (brother & sister). I would like to give them these pouch’s as a treat but want to know the best to purchase? Thanks!
What are your thought on Reveal wet cat food. The ingredients are so limited. For example the ingredient list for the Tuna filet with seaweed in Tuna, Seaweed and fish broth.
Hi there, I did test that product out but it didn't make it into the final review. Vital Essentials is a great product that my cats like a lot, but it just didn't fit into the categories for this video.
I’ve been trying to get my hands on Dr. Elseys clean protein dry food but it us sold out everywhere and probably is a manufacturer issues. Also I am feeding my cat Tiki Cat After Dark Pate which has meat from NZ and a much more affordable and so far it’s been great.
I'm just wondering if you always feed from the plastic container in the video. I read that cats get whisker fatigue from deeper style dishes/bowls. I started feeding my cats on saucers and then purchased a shallow, oblong, elevated cat dish that seems to be working-out well for them. Thank you for all of your videos. They've been very helpful!

Just wondering in the article version of this video on the website, Ziwi Peak venison recipe carbs is 13% (chart). However, in the Ziwi Peak brand review article the chart for this same Venison recipe says about 20% carbs.
Hey there. We're having an issue with discrepancies between the pie charts and the calculations I've been doing on my own; the program doesn't account for fiber and ash in its calculations, which leads to higher values. I would contact the company for specific information-be sure to ask for a dry matter typical analysis.
I have 3 cats, my 2 girls are skinny. My boy is overweight. He’s addicted to all the carbs in his dry kibble (hills science diet). I’m trying to get a canned food that makes everyone happy, but they can be very picky with texture. It’s frustrating at times. I’m in the process of switching them to Dr Elsey’s dry kibble to have while I figure out a wet food that makes them happy. I need a food without the carbs, wheat gluten, corn, and yucky fillers. It’s a very difficult process. I’m so disappointed at these “vet recommended” brands like Hills that have so many bad ingredients that has the potential to make your cat fat and unhealthy. I really appreciate your videos. I need all the help I can get, lol.
Hi. I have a 4 month old kitten with a sensitive stomach. His poops are not as firm as they should be. What foods would you recommend for a kitten in this situation. Freeze dried raw or canned food?
I feed my 3 cats Dr Elseys dry. They all LOVE it. (they also get wet food in the morning, but then this dry food for throughout the day). I do find that I do not have to feed them as much (due to it's higher caloric content), so it does last a bit longer. The main reason I decided to try this food is because one of my cats was diabetic - please note - WAS. I am convinced that switching her to this high quality, very very low carb content contributed to her diabetic remission. I am more than willing to spend a little more and not have to give her insulin every 12 hours. As others have indicated, it can be difficult to find it in stock. I do wish it was a little cheaper. I actually reached out to the company to see if they had a larger bag, as their largest bag is only 6 pounds. They did respond right away, but unfortunately that is the largest size and there was no plans to make a larger size.

this video came out in perfect timing! my kittens are reaching their one year soon so i was needing to research good foods to transition them to. thank you!
Glad it was well-timed for you!
Thanks so much for doing this. And i love how your cats was very happy to show their feline fans how to properly eat the food you were talking about.
😂 They are too cute
@@jc.1191 Yes they so are and it's that pure cuteness that makes them stars
Thank you Mallory for another very informative and well presented video. Great information as usual. 😸😸😸😻😻😻
Thank you!
I’m getting my new kitten soon from the breeder and you are literally walking me through my new journey with my fur baby
We use Origen and Instinct in top 5 cat foods. Also feed some freeze dried and home cooked chicken
Hey first time having a cat. I got like a 6 week old calico cat. Thank you so much for your advice. 🙏 🐈
Btw, I actually was a cat hater. Now I love my new kitty 🐱🥰
You're my cat guru keep up the great work!!
Age degrades the health of cats overtime, not food.
@@lwh7301 food plays a big factor on how any organism ages
Everyone cannot afford the high priced foods and do the best for their animal companions with food they are able to afford.
@@bettyboop1524 I get that, but hospital bills are far more expensive. So I just buy the more expensive food, more affordable to me than the vet.
@@bettyboop1524 If you can’t afford a pet then you shouldn’t have one. I know it may be an unpopular opinion, but having a pet is a privilege and a luxury. Making the decision to bring a living animal into your home and doing the bare minimum for them should not be seen as normal.
I love how educational your videos are
Good list ! Stella and Chewys is the life savor & Feline Natural Raw ( that one is 36 dollars a bag )!!
I’ve been feeling my 6 year old cat Purina One True Instinct High Protein dry food . Sometimes he throws it up. Is he eating to much ? Should I switch to Purina One Wet food ? How much should I feed him per day. ?
Thank You 🐱
Thanks for your unbiased and thorough reviews! I recently found your channel and website. A shortcut to your website is now on my home page for easy access. I have also shared information from your reviews with fellow "feline guardians" (a term I've not heard until now).
Thank you so much for your support, Debbie!
Thank's for all of the advice
Good Understandable video. I subscribed because they have more content on all subjects
Thanks for the sub!
Thanks for your videos they really help me check out some new meals for my cat! Thanks for the post again! 🐱👓✌
I appreciate your videos they are definitely helpful. What do you think about Hills, Merrick, Weruva, and Pure Bites
Thank you so much for video & great guide. Stella & chewy’s salmon & chicken has been gotten 2 paws up from Espresso. Took a minute to soak She demanded more. We’ll try rabbit next.
Awesome! Glad to hear that Espresso loved the Stella & Chewy's Salmon and Chicken. Good luck with your further trials!
Super informative!
Hi I would like to ask for cats wet food Royal Canin or Wholehearted would be better for cats especially for ragdoll. Thank you 🙏
These reviews were SO honest that I didn't get the warm fuzzies about any of these offerings, lol.
Thank You for all your great helpful info.
Love this video... so informative!!! 👍💕
Cool video. Thanks home girl !!
I switched my cats' dry food to Dr Elsey's Clean Protein. It was a shaky transition but now that's done they are doing well. Been a month and cats are active and appear to be losing a bit of weight, the goal. Also got a One Fast Cat exercise wheel. This may take awhile.
A very good informative program. Thank you!
Glad to hear that you appreciated it, William. Thank you for subscribing.
I love Stella and chewy’s my cats love it
Very impressed the only ones I didnot approve of was authority and Costco brand food!
But so awesome with choices we do frommm, well ness, and whole hearted for our cats and Stella and chewy ..
Thanks for sharing this video good content very informative!!!have a great day.
Thank you!
Mix dry food and wet food cause they need dry food to keep their teeth healthy.🤗👍🆗
Great info!-thanks!
Thanks, Mallory, great job as always!
Thanks, Art!
@@AllAboutCatsYT my pleasure, Mallory! Thank YOU for the continuing education!
Tiki Cat has been amazing for my sensitive stomach cat.
I always mix half fancy feast (which my cat always loves) with h half Ziwi peak or feline natural - that way she gets premium foods but as a mid range cost
I ordered the trial of the Nom Nom, will report back, thanks for all you do Mallory.
Hi Nix. I like Cat Food DB. They've covered a lot of foods and seem to give good, consistent assessments of the products they cover.
Great videos. My wife and I watch them all the time
So glad that you and your wife appreciate the videos! It's great to have you guys here.
Aloha from Hawai’i 🌺 great information
My cat absolutely devoured ziwipeak and feline natural but it’s too expensive to feed on a regular basis
A video I was waiting for !!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for your hard work
I'm worried about my cats cuz I'm in Morocco that I can't find these brands here,so what about reflex dry food and molly dry food, and ownat ????
I have 6 cats and 4 are overweight and 1 has been diagnosed as diabetic😥😥😥. I struggle with what to feed them. I've fed them Fancy Feast pate classic and seafood and they love the Gravy Lovers too. I also bought Purina Pro Plan $45 for 16lbs
I love that you say cat guardian💙😺💙 very apt
I would love to see a review of the cat pouch lick-able type treats? My senior cat that passed last November use to love the Hartz “senior bisque” one. We have recently adopted sibling 5 month old kittens (brother & sister). I would like to give them these pouch’s as a treat but want to know the best to purchase? Thanks!
I use 9lives wet food is that any good?
I know you’re all about cats but could you PLEASE make a video for dogs too :) I have both cats and dogs and I really trust your reviews
Great video!!👍👍
What are your thought on Reveal wet cat food. The ingredients are so limited. For example the ingredient list for the Tuna filet with seaweed in Tuna, Seaweed and fish broth.
My kitten will not eat CORE. But she really likes the Merrick Purrfect Bistro kitten food.
Did I miss the Vital Cat in the yellow bag thats in the thumbnail?I get the freeze dried minnows in that brand.
Me too! My cat only eats Dr Elsey clean protein and i only have 22 cases left! I don’t know how to do after she finished it !!!
hi, what can you recommend for kidney disease as my cat will never touch any renal prescription food. any recommendations?
Is the manufacturer FROMM good cat food maker ? Thank you.
Love your relaxed style. Too much energy is unnatural and hard to take.
Great video thank you! Any thoughts on Carna4 for cats?
I'm just wondering if you always feed from the plastic container in the video. I read that cats get whisker fatigue from deeper style dishes/bowls. I started feeding my cats on saucers and then purchased a shallow, oblong, elevated cat dish that seems to be working-out well for them. Thank you for all of your videos. They've been very helpful!
No, almost never. I have a few dozen of these little plastic dishes and they come out for food sampling time but not for normal meals.
@@AllAboutCatsYT That's what I thought. :-) Thanks again for all the videos. They're very helpful.
Hy Mallory im loving New timing for your uplodes beacuse I can wach it right away before I it was 4am for me🙈I love your reviuws beacuse you are honest and I relly like that ♥️🐾😻Stay safe and cant wait for next one (what are you reviw next time😊🤗)
Oh, glad to hear that this time worked well for you! We plan to do a video on human foods cats can and can't eat next. What would you like us to cover?
@@AllAboutCatsYT that will be werry helpful my cats love eat beans Peas and corn so I hope that is safe for them🙀I give them every so offten sardins for coat 🐈🐾
Thank you for your videos. Watch out for the additive Calcium Carbonate which clogs up arteries and veins in both humans and animals that lead to heart issues and other health problems.
Is sheba wet food kitten is good?
My 2 year old loves Sheba pate' and FF Petites better than anything else.
How would you rate these wet foods in challenging packaging??
My cat has been eat DrElsey for years thanks to you she goes crazy for it! The duck flavor is her favorite but I usually get chicken
I fred my cat fresh pet
Have you done a study on Purina One cat food? A couple of my spayed female cats have really gained weight. I have dry food available at all times because they are active outside( mostly) cats that enjoy hunting and don't always show up at the same time( I have acquired 6 cats from one female stray). They also eat friskies pate can food. Is this a good diet for them?please respond.
Hey there Marilyn. That diet isn't perfect, but it's okay. If they're gaining weight, I would wonder if they're getting food from someone else in the local area. You can see our review of Purina ONE here: ua-cam.com/video/2VRgMzyX9vk/v-deo.html&
I would contact the company for specific information-be sure to ask for a dry matter typical analysis.
it’s amazing how you try everything and post every week 😍 edit: HOLD UP IM FIRST
🤜💥🤛
It depends on the particular product, but I would lean towards a good freeze-dried raw food make for all life stages or kittens.
