If this man hadn't said that the reason he was cross-dressing is that it's his fetish, then people would just be making assumptions and judging him. But he's said it, clearly. At that point, if he's running around in public in fetish gear, the appropriate reaction is revulsion. What consenting adults do in private is their jam, when you drag other people into it by engaging in this sexual activity in public, it's exhibitionism.
This. It was also a deliberate provocation. Laura keeps going on about how she gets off or got off to violent porn. Okay, I think porn is bad and that supporting the industry is bad, but it’s a common vice. And, more importantly, it’s something people keep private. Would Laura go up to gay men and talk about AAP unprovoked? Probably not. Like she said, it’s peoples’s *behaviour* that matters… but apparently she can’t see Phil’s actions clearly. He chose to go to a place where women who were trapped in abusive marriages with AGPs were. He chose to go to a place where the parents of children who have been groomed by AGPs were. And he chose to go in an obvious silly costume that he wears everywhere. No one would take issue with an AGP wanting to talk to transwidows or parents or whatever. What they took issue with was an obvious attempt by him to *freak these people out* and get attention. Like, Laura talks about post-modern types. Does she understand that drag queen story hour is provocation? You either let kids be groomed by men or you flip out and get mad over “a man in a dress” and the rights of parents to take their kids to drag shows. Really undercuts the “parental rights” message, right? That’s the point. You either fall into their rhetorical trap or you act like a psycho in public. That’s what Phil was doing. He was parading around in a dress but if the feminists called him out then they were undercutting their prior complaint that “men should just wear dresses without saying it makes them women”.
There is a difference between sexual orientation and engaging in sexually arousing activities in the middle of a conference. While some expressions of sexual orientation in public are OK (like kissing a spouse) there is definitely a line where you should keep it in the bedroom (no matter what your orientation is!). I guess with AGP some think wearing a dress falls in the first category and some think it falls in the latter.
16:42 “I felt more comfortable around this AGP that radical feminists!” “One evening Peggy says, with a slightly pursed expression, "My next book is on joy: the difference between the level of joy that cross-dressers experience"--she holds her hand up over her head--"and the level of joy that their wives experience." Her hand drops to her waist. The cross-dressers around us say nothing. They nod, joyous astronauts sympathizing with the poor wives left behind and trying not to show how much better a time they are having. I think of the twinkle in Mel's eyes and the fact that nothing like a twinkle ever appears in Peggy's. It must be psychologically exhausting for her to turn this pain into a shared hobby, his compulsion into entertainment, his need into an occasion for celebration, and I feel ashamed that, knowing all that, I still prefer his company.”
Hey Laura seeing you struggle with your illness I just wanted to say I hope you heal and rest your mind body and soul with warm cups of whatever you enjoy the most, with the cosiest blanket and socks you can find, I hope someone you know well will make you a big bowl of chicken soup or whatever soup you desire and make you laugh a little but not too much with that chesty cough you have and your day is quiet and peaceful.
Please take care of yourself. I was at the conference and I thought it was so uplifting and energizing to see so many different people united around protecting kids and helping detransitioners and parents. I hope you were feeling that positive energy too and can hold onto that.
HOLY SHIT isn't this the guy that photographs himself in women's bathrooms carrying a freaking SWORD?. It's about 3am here. I'm gonna get me some sleep and then see what you have to say on the matter. I'm gonna try to remain open minded.
terf here. or am i? i retweeted the genspect tweet and defended Phil. i'm getting the most engagement i've had in a long time - mostly argumentative. it's absolutely groupthink. i doubt even 1/2 of the GC women have read any of the AGP literature. and it's a giant own cos if they weren't so blinded by their disgust they'd see that Phil does their movement a massive favour. sorry you're copping it too Laura
Groupthink? Really? Maybe for a few weak individuals, but most of us are just disgusted by males performing femininity and getting off on it while FORCING US to take part in that nasty crap and we DO NOT WANT TO ACCEPT IT and shut up about it!!! Also, wtf is an "AGP" literature - like the nasty misogynistic crap of "Andrea" Andrew Long Chu? Wtf are you on about even?
You both look adorable in that pic. Fear causes reactivity and can be understandable. Those who are seeking truth, can get past that. Great reminders that we do have the power to choose not to respond to every emotion we may be experiencing by projecting onto others and instead try to just listen.. Hope you feel better soon.
@@tonyhoffman3309 it is utterly rational for women to demand that all men (regardless of how they feel) stay out of all women's spaces and sports all the time. Women say NO. You don't get a say, sir.
@@tonyhoffman3309 no, fear does not have to be rational. Women can choose to not worry about the men they see walking late at night because only a small percentage of attacks are from strangers, or they can save their lives based on instinct and get the hell out. The one rational aspect of fear would be realising that while not all men are r**ists, enough are that we should avoid all of those who are in our space. We see a man in, say, a women’s bathroom and further see that he’s dressed as a woman. The brain processes that there is someone larger and in disguise.
