That’s the problem I have with African Restaurants! They are soooo expensive!! I make my own African meals! I get ALL of the ingredients from local African/Indian store! I followed the recipe, everything came out great!! I spent about the same for these ingredients, as I pay for ingredients for similar meals I’ve been making for years!!

As someone who's family is from ghana. We have the same problems in nyc and now that i moved to NC. I want to find african spots to try but I'm never a fan of places charging alot and either not giving alot or quality is lacking. That was my experience at Ghanaian places in nyc. I'll see how places are while living in NC

Also try Gullah red rice, when the ancestors from various parts of west Africa came over, they wanted to make jollof but the ingredients in USA was slightly different , so they made a new rice dish. You can always find it Charleston as 70% of enslaved ppl came through there.

Overpaying for a simple chicken and rice dish, a big piece of sausage, a rice seasoned with ketchup (Jollof) and oxtail (mostly bones), and baked beans? Yeah no, I’m good. I’ve had various African cuisine but none of it is worth this price. I’d much rather get some Asian food for that price. Africans eat this stuff for pennies on the dollar.
Uber Eats menu is drastically different from the in house menus of a good amount of restaurants I use to order from.....menu items were different at times too.
Their backstory deserves more research. Often times there's a justifiable reason for the pricing. Who's actually making and shipping the sausage (e.g.). The distance. It's a regional delicacy that most of the Zim community probably greatly appreciates.

We grew up on this food some of it introduced to us by White dutch people/afrikaans like Boerewors and biltong but we embraced it and made it our own and created different variations of flavours unique to Zimbabwe, our bean stew is some of the best out there as well, i have tasted chakalaka made in other countries its not all that moreover in other parts of zimbabwe its just known as been stew and in northern zimbabwe thats were is mostly known as chakalaka and its nothing like the stew in SA or that canned chakalaka they have which taste like piss, if you try zimbabwean canned food you will come to realise it tastes a thousand times better than South african canned food, our meat taste better generally as it is mostly organic, south african beef tastes like soy chunks no kidding.

Nah Fam I'm From South Africa Zimbabwe is right above us, our neighbors. Boerewors is actually South African, hence its name is translated to Farmers Sausage from Afrikaans. It's never Sold Singularly like that. $16,99 would be about R289 for that you could buy Boerewors enough for a month. You could hula hoop with that. You usually find Boerewors sold at Steakhouses, Breakfast Joints or open Braai(Barbecue) Joints and in all cases As accompaniment to other things. Never ever Singularly. Those people want to American Dream at all costs yall being Finessed.
Chakalaka is also South African it's a spicy Vegetable Relish, The name is Zulu. Jollof Rice is A Nigerian National Dish, Moist rice with everything but the Kitchen Sink thrown at it. So for a Zimbabwean restaurant there are barely actual Zimbabwean Dishes. They borrowing from other African countries and way way overcharging.

Thats just fried rice not jollof rice actually, we usually consume fried rice in Zimbabwe but when you think of it the so called jollof rice is fried as well atleast i think so, yeah so maybe they thought to spice things up and maybe attract some east african and west african people in the US to the restaurant as well like them nigerians or something.

They should not charge extra money for some nonsense. To fix that you need to go to the state of North Carolina and complain. And it definitely should not be no automatic charge if you taking it to go. I might be in North Carolina next month. If I give this place a try and I see the charge on my bill I am going to not only call the people in North Carolina. The right people North Carolina I’m also going to reach out to senators, etc..
