I’m from Jersey, moved to Charlotte 4 years ago. Nana’s was the very first soul food I’ve tried in Charlotte, and it was absolutely disgusting. Anyone who voted it number 1 cannot cook, and neither can their family. It’s gross and I’d never go back.

I live in Charlotte now. If you want good soul food go to Floyd’s or Sunset Soul Food. That’s the best in town. These places are run by good ol’ country people.

I grew up in Charlotte, and we didn't go to restaurants for soul food because we got that at home.

Sorrowfully I have eaten at Nana and had a terrible experience. I had the fried chicken that was hard and the smothered pork chop that had no taste with the gravy. Mr. Time was definitely right about the greens they were to strong and the rice with no favor. Truly I spend a small fortune to receive a tasteless meal. My overall rate for Nana on that day was a FOUR.

I 💯 agree with your pork chop/Gravy analysis. The flavor of any good gravy should come from the meat drippings, butter, onions/garlic, flour & water.
That's how you make gramas gravy.

Her and her family no longer owns it. They sold it to some Hispanics, but they kept some of the employees and they still use her brand name and you’re absolutely right. The food is not the same we went to months ago and the food was horrible.🤷♀️

When you and friends visit again...try Original Chicken 🐔 😋 and Ribs or Angie's Diner...you want go wrong....both restaurants are black ⚫️ owned...the two restaurants are a hidden GEM 💎.

Before I stopped eating pork.. I use to get the fried pork chop plate with yams, macaroni and green beans !!! A HIT!!! Lol it definitely matters who cooking that day 😅

I’m from North Carolina, we don’t put sugar or butter on our Rice. Usually the Rice is playing. I can’t speak about the chicken, the collard greens or the mac & cheese… I’m looking at the comments and everyone who lives in Charlotte saying that Nanas is pretty nasty, so I guess you could say I’m trying to help them out a little bit. I’ve never had them, but what I will say is my families from North Carolina and we don’t put none on our Rice.

Best soul food is from your kitchen juicy inside crunchy out side fried chicken,black eye peas collards corn bread and some old folk home made biscuits,ice tea ew mashed cheesy potatoes,or Mac & cheese woo/wee

Reg.when we were growing up in rural n e nc large family my mama always made a big pot of rice with sugar,butter,milk called it hot cereal rice it is good but I still like other variations now thanks to my mama for making a meal for us all

It's wild to see that. I mean I thought the point of eating food was to enjoy it! But how can it be enjoyed when it's devoured in one take? 😅
After listening to your whole review, here is my experience. If you go on Wednesday the meatloaf is very good. My husband complained about the chicken being over cooked. The pork chops were ok. The Mac and cheese is a no-no but the greens and cabbage are on point as well as the banana pudding. Once again, price is too high. I could go to a restaurant somewhere else and pay the same price and the food would be much better but I do like to support black owned.

Wow Nana I'm still going to try the food. However, I have tried a lot of places chimetime has reviewed and I have never been disappointed.
I think your review made a difference because I tried to collard greens for the first time and they were bustin; not bitter at all and had a nice sweet flavor. Before the pandemic this place was very good and during NBA All-Star Weekend the line was out the door and wrapped around the corner. My favorite things to get here are the baked chicken, and the ribs as well as the stuffing and candy yams but when I used to get the macaroni and cheese before Keto it was always delicious thank you for the review.

I believe you did catch them on a bad day, I eat there several times a month, mostly on Sundays and it's always really good for me, however, I dont know about the #1 rating. You were spot on about the staff, chicken & collard greens. I pray they see this and change a few things.

I moved to Charlotte from Michigan - I knew you were not going to like the soul food.
I moved here from Detroit myself I thought I would come get some good food and a down south booty.... The food is definitely not good cook outs waffle houses soul food instead of selling WHOLE WING is WAT WE call dings they charge arm and leg for chicken 10 pcs of DINGS $12-15, 20 PCS $22-27 LIKE DAMN FOR CHICKEN?????? Then I ask ppl where's the good food they say I'm going to the wrong places.. I feel like every place is the wrong place. I stopped being lazy and cook my food right the way I want it and keep $40 in my pocket everytime from being disappointed 😞

I just ate the best thing I ever put in my mouth. Gumbo over rice, chicken fried to perfection, fried cabbage with sausage, potato salad and a fluffy biscuit. My chosen last meal. 😋

I’ve been living in Charlotte since 1998 and the only great soul food restaurant was McDonalds cafeteria. Since they closed, there hasn’t been a good soul food restaurant.

Came here a few times but, just recently twice since it's near my new job. And my last visit for a small plate of fried chicken, mac n cheese, collard greens, and a bottled water was a huge disappointment for $20. The plate was a child size specifically the size/ amount of food. I wish I went to Bogangles instead.
I remember eating at nanas back when I stayed in Charlotte and remembered it being salty. I was hoping it changed over the years but I see it didn't 😅
I go to NaNa’s restaurant when I visit the VA hospital. I love the yams and the fish. The mac and cheese is pretty much hit or miss. The chicken was just ok but good.
That garbage food will have you admitted to the VA hospital if you keep eating it.

That’s the only soul food I ever had in charlotte. They hooked me slam up, probably bc I went right before closing and was friendly af so they gave me a bunch of extras-versus throwing it out. Anywho, the food wasn’t the best, but I was hungry so ya boy ate. Also, I was low key complaining, in their faces, about how expensive the prices were for a plate lol. All in all I think I’ll spend my money elsewhere

Na Na Morrison is the truth. I recently moved from Charlotte back to Ohio. I definitely patronized them regularly. Everything was always good.
Been sayin it for years; Soul Food spots are the biggest hustle goin. Them joints NEEEEEEEVER live up to the hype. Can’t mass manufacture Soul Food AND keep an eye on quality.. just can’t do it y’all
