After I unboxed that DW Collectors Maple, everyone said I needed to check out a Sonor Drum set. Well a year later, I finally found a Sonor S Classix Birch that was worthy of checking out. Where I live you dont see too many people with Sonors and rarely do you see them come up for sale. As soon as I heard an S Classix Birch (Scandinavian birch to be exacpt) kit came into Sam Ash I went to check it out. Turns out there was a Sonor Jungle snare too! I still needed a "real" snare so I borrowed Bryce's 13x5.75 Benny Greb snare. These drums sound incredible, tuned up super easy, and recorded like a dream. Easily one of the best sounding kits I've come across! The S Classix line has kinda been forgotten about and replaced with newer lines from Sonor, but when it comes to this kit vs my DW Collectors, the Sonor takes the cake. No questions asked. Also this wasnt the most expensive drum set tbh. Of course I bought it used, but it was WAYYY LESS than that DW.
I FINALLY Bought a SONOR Drum Set!
Okay, Sonor or DW? You can only play one the rest of your life, which one you picking?
Shave the beard at 500,000 subs
tbh DW
Probably sonor
DW entirely
Sonor
I’ve been playing an s classix with the ‘ebony’ veneer for almost 20 years - love that kit. The birch just shines in studio.
I choose my S Classix over my maple light Designers any day.
Yes, like Yamaha's old recording custom
Sonors USP is.
BEECH.
Nothing wrong with birch or maple etc. but you can save money getting those from other companies.
Great pillows! Can't believe you got an entire drumkit with it! keep getting those great deals!
In my humble opinion, this is the best drum set you have ever bought.
Edit: Thank u Bryce
Welcome to the world of Sonor... That kit sounds phenomenal! Those jungle snares are a challenge... A new head will probably get the tension up a bit, but gosh, you tuned that kit to perfection!
Jungle snare gimmick .. one could find an application but not much IMO - reminds me of buskers . I'd rather have a secondary fully function snare like a Metal shell vs a Wood shell.
Need parts on the Road!!!!
I’ve had my Sonor Force 3007 for a decade plus and it’s everything I could’ve ever wanted. Sounds great, easy to maintain, and has held up unbelievably well for all that time. There’s a reason so many drum nerds love Sonor
I swear your drumming gets better every video! Love the Tom sounds on these drums, and you do a great job incorporating all the different pieces
Well said
Sonor kits like this sound amazing with remo pinstripe heads on the batter
It’s the kit this time ;)
Kidding
I love Sonor, gig on one every other weekend. Great sounding drums, and great build quality.
Sonor is my favorite kit. They have a singing quality and impeccable build. Even the ‘low end’ German made Sonors are exceptional.
That Benny Greb snare sounds incredible. The rest of the kit does too. Birch is probably my favorite shell material.
I had the same problem with busting the lugs on my snare, however I sent Sonor an email and they sent me replacement lugs, for the whole snare. So, all good again and very satisfied :D
One of my lugs popped, too. Drum Center of Portsmouth got me squared away quickly.
Everyone be busting nuts
@@Preamycotatosounds almost like the lug design might be trash. Lugwig from the 80s still going strong 🤷🏼 all this sounds good. But remember its mixed and everyones breaking those lugs it seems.
There’s something special about Sonor birch drums. Those sound fantastic!
Sounds overwhelming! A thing of beauty! Congratulations!! Play on!! Thank you!
That’s the most stuff I’ve ever seen in a bass drum!!
BTW kit sounds superb - and nice playing
Finally some Sonor love! More please! Great video David!!!
I love your drumming style. I watch your videos for the technical information and am always glad when you get to demonstrate them.
What a great vid. Beautiful kit at a very fair price. You have such a great knowledge of the construction of a drum kit, the specific of how they're put together, the subtle differences between brands. Keep it up man, really great channel.
Sonor all the way! They have so many incredible lines of drums that I absolutely love. Phonic plus and the Signature series from the ‘80’s are my two favorites.
I have a Sonor Force 3007 kit. it sounds simply amazing as well as looks beautiful. Sonor really do know how to make great drums. Great video - thank you from Canada.
I played an old sonor in church when I was like 13-15. Had no idea how good the kit was until I was like 30.
Sounds beautiful man!!!!!! 🤯 I've been wanting to look into Sonor and you've just ticked that question my friend😉👌
This kit sounds amazing!
Bryce is always helpful and fun to talk to! Nice video, as usual!!
That kit sounds amazing! That birch just has that naturally eq'd quality to it. And great playing as always!
Man I love the track you used and that kit absolutely SLAPS!!!!!!
Man, these sound so fuckin good! 2023 year of the Sonors is something I think we're all here for!
Awesome video. I have been playing a Sonor Sonic plus kit for about 27 years. Only had a few minor issues.
I've had that kit aswell 12, 13, 16, 22. It's a great sounding kit and I just sampled it.
Thank you Bryce!
Also dope stuff as always !
🤩👍✌️👌
I have a Sonor Sonic Plus II from the 90's and it's so well built and tunes like a dream. The hardware is a flimsy aluminium alloy and it doesn't have universal fittings which is frustrating, but for what is essentially a beginner/intermediate kit, it sounds incredible.
Congrats on an awesome kit. That was one of my dream drum kits back in the 90s. They sound amazing.
Hey ! this is one of the best videos you’ve ever done, I laugh a lot and enjoy the whole history.
BTW I love deep tom tom sizes (no the sound, just how they look...)
Best regards from Chile 🇨🇱
Awesome upload....love these videos. Sonor does make some amazing sounding drums. You kit and playing sound very nice!
Love the finish on that Sonor kit. Really classy. I like that you always play drums 'in context' with a music track..nice playing.
Hi, I've downloaded the stems and I must say, your mixing skills are impressive. The raw bass drum didn't quite hit the mark for me, but comparing it to the mixed version, it truly showcases your exceptional mixing abilities. Could you delve into more detail about your recording process? Keep up the fantastic work! Greetings From Germany.... I own Two Sonor Kits and 3 Sonor Snares... there are a lot of those around here :)
I've had a Sonor Jungle Snare for 15 years, it's been one of my favorite drums I've had for a long time!
#sonorjunglegang
Best channel mate ! love your work
i'm not even a drummer but i love watching your videos, they're so high quality, entertaining, and i actually learn more about kitpieces and drums in general. great content, keep it up!
The King of Drumming Content hands down👑
You got a beautiful drumkit! Keep grooving!!
Thx. for posting. I enjoyed the video and your drumming.
I would go Sonor. Given my choice of any kit whatsoever it would be Tama Star Maple.
Because of your recent “buying weird pedals“ I recommend you check out the farmer’s foot drum acoustic foot percussion kit. It’s like a whole drum set but you can play with your feet.
Those really sound great!! I especially like the floor tom.
I'm hoping to get a kit one day, and your videos help me find good kits for certain prices! Thank you so much for what you do!
+1 for Benny Greb snare, definitely the one I play the most
TOP 2 OF ALL TIME..that's a big claim ! I always simply trusted my ears and the feel of my Sonor kits I've had (and reactions of people I play with or for..) .. I don't have the experience of playing all those other brands like you do. I do know they are dependable in terms of when you dial in your sound.. you have it in the bag - like you said for recording - it stood out..> Good to hear - thanks for sharing the process.
Dave! Nice job explaining everything as usual! Luv the kit!.like enjoying watching you're Channel!😊
Love it. This is Why I subscribe just to listen to you talk about drums. Bruh I learn so much. Thanks
When Roland bought DW it really felt like they lost that "cool" factor and I'll definitely be looking at Sonor for my next kit.
I hear ya. The acquisition was so sudden and unexpected. And the announcement video isn’t even listed on their website - you had to find it on UA-cam yourself. They must have gotten into financial trouble due to the COVID lockdowns and were forced to sell, and are trying to pass it off as a “merger” with Roland to focus on DWe, when that’s probably not really the case.
You scored. I have the S-classics in Rosewood. 8/10/12:14/16/22 Their German made and minus a few features a SQ2. The sound amazing and will always hold their value. I have 4 Sonor kits Prolites, SQ2’, S-classic And Aa2. If you like the fact sound of the under sized shells. Yo’ll dbd a Sonor guy forever. Impo. Those are the best sounding birth drums. Even better than my pre china 2013 Yams recording customs.
I"m using a mid range Sonor kit from early 2000's made in China it is good on its own merit. Very dependable but I hated the floor tom that came with it.. I think there was something wrong with it.
How would you compare them to the Prolites? I have a Delite which I love, but I think I miss the power/volume of birch
It was super cool seeing the looking and buying process of this kit. More behind the scenes and also kit building and trying plz
First time I’m jealous on this channel. Great sounding kit, prob better in person! Looks great as well!
Those toms sound really nice!!! They have that studio sound: very focused.
The toms really sing and they pair so well with the snare!
Sounds great! I am a big fan of the three rack tom set up too!
those toms are magical. great stuff. they pop out the speakers.
I really enjoy your videos! Thanks!
Lucky find! You found some of the best sonor drums ever made! Cheers!
Thank you Bryce! Nice snare! 👍
Love the little snare what a cool unique sound
Took delivery of the safari kit with additional 8” Tom a few months ago. In black. Looks and sounds fantastic. Fits nicely in the living room too.
Boy you tuned those drums to perfection x
Love the videos man. You have all of these drumset but never seen you make a mega set, only really seen racks like once or twice. Dude it’d be awesome to start seeing bigger sets and racks and mega sets
Thank you Bryce because we're borrowing his OG Benny Greb snare.
No joke, the Benny Greb snare and Jungle snare are my top two favourite snares, so I got super stoked to see them in the thumbnail
So stoked to finally see some S Classix love!!! Love mine. Barely anything on UA-cam about them. Such great kits!
Sounds amazing!
sick sound, and nice cymbals as well
My man!!!... doing some justice to that kit! sounds great!!!
Oh dude, sick!!!!!!!!!! Your channel is greatness.
Great Sounding Kit!
Wow that kit sounds great.
Great memories of my lovely old white Sonor Phonic Plus kit that did a fair few gigs in the 80’s. By far the best hardware I’ve ever owned..!
Just watched the video again, now using headphones. Damn, these drums sound insane!
That kit slays dude. Nice restoration
About time sir. Love Sonor drums and overlooked by too many.
Man those toms sound sweet🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nice jam there. One of your best and most musical IMO.
These drums sound so freaking good!
I like that piccolo snare transition!
You really got those toms singing. Nice, even tone across the board.
Wooooow those toms sound incredible
Those Toms sound AMAZING!!!
Thank you Bryce nice snare drum thats sick
Sounds really good! Kick is nice and punchy!
All sorts of right stuff going on with that kit. Sounds fantastic. Also, your friends "borrowed" snare sounds pisser!
I've been wanting one of those exact sets for years, especially with the Scandinavian birch veneer. ❤
man those toms sound good!
Best Sonor S-Classix video on UA-cam, thank you!
You said you’d get one sooooooo long ago and I’ve been waiting for sooooooooook long and finally you made this vid
I played in a few festivals where the kit is a sonor force. Maaaaaaaaannnnn.... They sound amazing. No rings, moongel not even anything in the bass drum. Best sounding drums I've ever played on
Those toms sound so good
Awesome! I have these drums in White Pearl, sizes 24, 16, 13, 10. They're so great. Rarely see a good video on them so this was fun 🙂
I've been out of the music game for like a decade. Thank you for the inspiration! I recently invested in a "decent" practice set and man I gotta tell ya, I'm so excited to get back into it. Kids got to teenage years now, and I have more time now. Super excited thee days to get home and just jam again.
Crazy I’ve been watching for years had no idea you all were in VA. I go to east Coast drums for rehearsal all the time! Cool
Could you imagine a DNA analysis of the that bass drum muffling!
And you and the drums sound great!. Fine addition to the collection. Those "fusion" size kits are my favorite.
They sound great!
I have a 22 yr old rage set, bringing it back to life. You rock my friend
Dude these sound great!
I´ve been playing Sonor since the beggining and they are awesome. The sound is on point and also i´ve never have issues with the bolts and mounts... great drums from the low end kits to the hi end beautys
Ive had 16 drum kits over the years and the only acoustic set I still own is a Sonor Cocktail kit and I love it. Its small, easy to transport and sounds fantastic.❤❤
I recognized that sonorous tone the second you started hitting them! Sonors all the way! I will forever be sad that I sold my 90s Designer kit this past year-- best sounding kit of the dozens I've ever played. You will have a great year if you make it the year of Sonor! (...and maybe go broke!)
