How is it possible Derek has like 0 bodyfat in his glutes but not even a single shoulder or chest striation 🤦😴
No idea. He must have super weird genetics in terms of where he stores body fat and water.
Genetics, Jay Cutler had a bit of a similar lack of striations in his delts despite being in condition.
maybe he also stores some other things in his pecs and delts...

i'll go with Derek this time around. He looked very balanced, conditioned, wider, bigger, great separation!!
Kamal's back is absolutely crazy! Just look at the striations in his traps near the end of this video. With that said, I'm not sure. I'd say this is a blowout if Derek didn't look so smooth upstairs, since he's just dwarfing both Kamal and specially Shawn on stage. A little to smooth monsoon, a little to smooth... GORILLAH! Personally, I'd still give Derek the win, I just don't know if the judges will, even though more and more bodybuilders from the IFBB keep dying at such a young age and Jake Wood had said he's determined to prevent it in the future back when Alena Hatvani died. Yet the judges are still looking for death defying levels of dehydration and starvation. I know bodybuilding isn't healthy and everybody's aware of that going in, but I still think they shouldn't have to be playing with death every time they're gonna do a show. If you ask me, Derek's conditioning here is MORE than enough and should be enough to be deemed perfect conditioning from a judgment stantpoint, I mean just look at his glutes! He's literally just holding water in his upper body (IE not being dehydrated enough to die).

Tom, in your interview, if I indeed understood you correctly, you said you might be thinking of shutting down your UA-cam channel. Can you please clarify and say that this is not true? You are the only channel I trust in this shithole of an industry and I am sorry we can’t get you the views. But, I want you to know that there is a community here who appreciate your hard work.
It's been clarified there and on my IG. I just feel it's time to move on (especially after that WEAK Open prejudging) but will probably still cover the big shows.

Its Derek for me. Just from a purely aesthetic standpoint. I think he has the most appealing build and is outsizing the competition, but I do understand the criticisms.

With clarida in the center it makes lunford look even more watery upstairs
Derek's physique and structure is unbeatable. He just need to dial in his conditioning more because he tends to look soft when compared to other competitors.
I like Derek Lunsford but I think he’s a bit flat and the way his legs look is weird to me and I think Shaun is still in better condition, still a good argument to be made for Derek and maybe he’ll pull ahead at the night show, I like Shaun more

@@max-ql3br yeah, not sure what it is but his legs look weird. maybe it's because his abductors are under developed and he has a gap between his legs because of this. Also the way he displays his legs makes them look a bit skinny in some shots.
I had Shaun by a tiny bit in pre judge and finals I think Shaun was plain better. Roundness of a flex wheeler but freak factor of Coleman. I thought that's what counted in bodybuilding but what do I know.

Kamals left leg isn’t smaller in that first shot. He has his right foot spun out to the side and his left foot is pointing straight.
When you stand with your feet facing out it makes your legs look thicker from the front. He simply didn’t turn his left foot out.
kind of like ramy last year with the crazy width and structure just needing to be more conditioned. and he (+his team) did a great job 👍

Dereks quads in side chest look so good. Kind of like ramy with the seperations.
Don't forget kamal he's 50 years old ...with this physique i don't think no compares here
The height of Shaun's chest is so short making his pecs much smaller than the other 2 guys. His narrow clavicle also makes his chest smaller visually too.

I don't want this to be my only comment on the video. I obviously watched it whole, enjoyed it and i appreciate the content. I would love for Derek to win it. Shaun is also very good. The finals are gonna be hard to judge

Kamal’s back is more shredded than a Famous Dave’s pork dinner. But those lats of Lunsford are wider(whiter) than a Pete Buttigieg rally. On the other hand, Shaun is more peeled than a potato with Ogami Itto from the “Lone Wolf And Cub” movies when he’s put on prep cook duty.
They should have more weight categories or a BMI category. If you’re tall, you have no option but to compete in open.

Compared to last year kamal lost a lot of size. I dont know what he did but I would guess he took time off and then the contest diet just flattened him out a lot
I think that the calve muscle is treated like it doesnt matter any more.
Derek is still really smooth and soft tho but structurally he is god tier
I think Shawn should have won this. He's smaller but shape, cuts and separation, hands down Shawn is way much better that Derek. Derek has size but he looks smooth in most of the poses
I'm not really digging Lunsford's physique. His lats are huge which is not necessarily bad, but they overpower the rest of his physique and make him look VERY top heavy. His posing could use some adjustments too because he's spreading his legs and arms too far apart and it makes him resemble a frog jumping mid air (this is the best way I can describe it. lol) --just really awkward. Shaun has better proportions and is more conditioned than him. I think this will come down to size and mass preference. Which do you prefer?
Derek has crazy structure, Clarida was more conditioned but Derek is genetically bigger

Derek is good and his wheels came up somewhat, still not equal to his upper body size, but I had Clarida clearly winning. Clarida is sharper and is balanced. Derek is taller and wider but Clarida is more densely muscled.

You have to have everything to take our the champ. The champ came sharp enough in my opinion. It's the cross striated glutes for me.
hard to believe Derek is only 212. He is probably protected and doesn't have to weigh in properly. I mean, they used to do it with Kevin English.

Yup I had Shaun winning this show. In the finals he looked rounder than flex wheeler but with Ronnie level freak factor. Derek looked great but he wasn't quite there and I don't think 212 should be judged mainly by genetic structure. I don't like the flip flopping with what they are looking for every single year that's been going on in most categories the last couple years. You should knock out the champ not win with a cointoss. I think fitness was the same case tonight aswell.

Shaun looks like a mini Coleman, but he’s just not dominant enough to take on Dereks size.
Kamal is best conditioned by far
Clarida is too small and narrow but that helps him to fill his frame. It's true that Derek is a bit off, nevertheless his superior genetic pedigree is evident. Good stuff.
Hmmmm most people think Derek is better, but I mush prefer Shaun. Front double and lat spread go to him easy

i think id give it to clarida for the repeat! they all looked great, but your so right tom kamal's asymmetry is killing him. it's a really tough call but i would go with the champ! lundsford just needs more conditioning with his upper body, he looks pretty smooth up there at least from the front....

Clarida's small pecs really throw me off. Looks almost like a torn muscle. If you compare the surface area his chest it's like half the size of the others'. Even in the front double bi it looks weird. I know pecs aren't as important as they used to be but idk, it really bothers me

Derek need to work on his posing in some shots, he does that weird standing on his toes way too much for some poses and i feel it takes away from him really flexing as hard as possible like in the most muscular. Plus he should do a hands clasped cause he’s so wide and the tallest one, it would be a money shot for him

It's not like structure is the № 1 judging criteria all of a sudden. It's just that they're so similar in every other way that structure becomes the biggest and most obvious difference between them. Derek's advantage in structure and mass outweighs Clarida's advantage in conditioning (if he even has an advantage there). It's not a "dominant" win but still a clear and decisive one imo.
I feel that judges will definitely go for derek. But clarida shows much better separation and depth in his physique!

Kamal needs to look straight ahead and pose straight ahead.He seems to keep turning his body and trying to pose in front of "a" judge or judges.He needs to stop and man up.There is a reason why you are put in a place in the lineup,The better you are the more you get the middle and plus you can get minus points for not looking straight ahead.

Here I go again with my obligatory whine about Mr Olympia: again, for the biggest stage of bodybuilding, the lighting is meh, the streaming is meh, spelling bee competitions have better lighting. It's unfortunately such an inconsistent shyt show no wonder it never got the attention it deserves. With so much areas for subjectivity in judging, at least have some consistency in what you can control (lighting, back drop, etc...). But nah, the low iq continues which plague bodybuilding some more.
Ughh god the finals lighting is absolutely horrendous, not to mention the epilepsy-inducing background...
Seizure-inducing indeed! The flashing neon lights and spotlights moving all over the place during the individual routines at the Open were probably the biggest abomination I've ever seen.

They all seem flat in the inner thigh area.
Derwk has strange genetics. No shoulder rips or striations. Mass but not deep cuts or conditioning. Ugly proportion on him as well. No calf muscles either no bicepts peaks. Just big bulky soft holding too much water. Mass is not enough. His left side is bigger as well. I see too many flaws in Derek's body. Shaun should win he has less flaws. Isn't that what this is all about ?? No man is perfect so the man with least flaws should win
