This is one of those channels that is highly underrated with 21k subscribers. You could for sure have 100k-200k subscribers by the end of the year. Great channel man!
The a7rV uses pixel binning. It reads an 8K video capable sensor (which is actually 11K!) grouping together a few pixels, reading them like they were one, to give you a 4K image. It appears to be softer because the a7iii read the whole sensor and downsample the image to 4K, retaining more information, and thus looking sharper. The a7rV can do something similar but you have to be in super35 (APSC crop) mode

Good Video, really shows that the improvements are incremental and the marketing hype and UA-cam excitement for each new launch can be a bit overstated. Truly a point of diminishing returns but having said that, I did buy the A7rV and it's the most polished camera I have used from Sony. But clearly folks can save A LOT of money and just get an older body and make great content.
Great video by the way can I ask what your in camera detail level was set on? Some say -7 is the one to choose but some people tell me to drop down to a lower number which would you prefer for 4K/HD?

A7RV is 6k downsampled to 4K (off topic... A7iv is 7K downsampled to 4k = sharper picture than a7RV). I like Cinetone! I sold my a7iii over a year ago. TBH, I wish I had kept it - such a capable camera! a7iii still holds up today.
@@KenseiAkatsu Until stacked sensor become standard in FF and global shutter in flagship cameras. Just like me using an iPhone 11, it is older but does basically everything a newer iPhone does.
@@KenseiAkatsuit's ok... but the 1080 mode is bad and there's no 60fps in 4k. That and 8 bit only makes it a really limited camera compared to what's out there from sony and panasonic now. The autofocus is overrated too. It costs the same as the s5 used. The s5 is a better camera in every single aspect except for 1) autofocus and 2) lens selection. So it depends on how important those things are. I switched from s5 to a7iii but that was because my camera buddy has a big sony system and we wanted to collaborate.
@@fredriksvard2603not many actually need 4k60. So many have been highly successful without, or possibly with far less. It's like everyone needed an 8k TV for a minute..now Sony doesn't evwn produce an 8k TV!
@@jordanbabcock9349 The problem is, most cameras have bad 1080 modes (sony non-s/fx models for example) so you're forced to shoot 4k. And 60fps is good for stabilized shots (and slomo obviously).
I decided to upgrade from the a7iii to the ar7v mainly for better autofocus when taking pictures of moving targets, and more megapixels so that i can crop more often into photos and also just incase i might need it for a customer job

I have been using my A7III since 2019 for mostly Milkyway Landscape Astrophotography and also as a general travel camera (portraits, landscape etc.) Now I have been thinking about adding a second camera body to my kit, especially for the times when I travel to remote places for Astro. I thought it would be great to have a second body to get more shots/time-lapses in a single Astro night session. Initially, I was thinking about a second A7III (costs 1800 EUR), however, I don't know whether it would make sense to buy a five-year-old camera again, instead shelling out for A7RV (3900 EUR) might step up my game for landscape and also allow for more crop and better prints. (I also shoot windsurfers occasionally, shooting with the 105mm and then being able to crop would be great) The question is; would A7RV give me better astrophotos in terms of ISO and low light performance? or will the low-light performance be a disappointment after A7III? If I shoot at 61MP on RV and downsample it to match the 24MP of A7III, then when comparing them side by side, will I have less noise and more SNR on the 61MP Downsampled version?
RV will be better than A7III in terms of the quality including the low light performance and resolution stuffs. But I think A7UV will work too for your purpose!
Im trying to decide between the A74 £2000 (grey importers) and A7R5 £3000 (grey importers). Its really down to the rear screen and evf quality. This video has made me wonder if I should just pluck for the A74. I thought there was an improvement in the auto white balance and stabalisation to, but Im wondering if that is just marketing hype.
There is a sale for 1400 EU only for the body (a7iii) but i am not sure if its the right choice to buy it. I do drone videography and i want to buy a camera that can make some cinematic scenes with my drone videos however i want also to have the option to take photos. Any suggestions? Also i am a beginner in the camera industry and my budget is around 2000
If you are ready to learn so hard, I think jumping to FX30 is a good option. I think FX30 is a new standard entry video camera in Sony. Wait a sec, A7III vs FX30 sounds nice. I will make a video lol

Try when comparing autofocus not to make 2 pictures together but to make one big one with each camera and put a stopwatch!)and then it's still impossible to see which one is faster and better!
The A7RV is a SIGNIFICANT jump in image quality and stabilization. Slap a lens that resolves that sensor better like the 35mm 1.4GM and you'll start to see the differences more. There also seems to be a lack of knowledge on printing. The maximum printing size for the A73 is 13x20 @ 300dpi. Whereas the A7RV can print it's full resolution up to 21x31. I'm not sure where your billboard idea came from. It also is really amazing to crop and hold image quality, and its 61mp sensor gives it a nice lowlight advantage as well. However, if you aren't printing, or cropping a lot, or have lenses that can resolve the 61mp sensor, the advantages of the A7RV start to disappear. Oh, the stabilization on the A7RV is magnificent. I can comfortably shoot at 1/10 @ 85mm and the image is tack sharp as if shot at 1/1000... My older sony's could not dream of that.
a7rv less sharp maybe because of slog3 detail set to -7 by default... i don't know about a7iii but personally i like the soft looks on a7rv compare to the over sharp image a7iii produce..
I have both the A7III and traded my A7RV for an A7Riv. I kept the A7III if one of my friends wanted to come along. But ain't no way, Ill go back to the A7III, A7IV, or A1. I need megapixels. The only issue I have with the A7riv is that it only has 61 megapixels and I wished it was at least 100. I didn't keep the A7rV because I shoot 61m, 3.2,uncompress raw resulting in a 120mb file. Plus I shoot 1080p with a well lit scenes. The pixel shifting tech is basic and needs work to be something practical.

@@johnvisuals_ honestly man, I have the sony a7iii and it does an amazing job. It does great 4k video and the pictures are also really good. It’s a very well known and bought camera. I totally recommend it.
I lierally got to use the a7iii like this previous week and let me tell you my honest feelings. dont get it. Like get a canon RP or what ever instead. even a nikon will do. After using the a7iv and the a7siii, I felt like the a7iii was such a bad camera. the colours were so bad but if you have never used the newer sony camera or gonna get it for just videos (no photos and with mixed feeling about video ), I say go for it. You wont know the difference. the problem was I kept getting wierd colours and wierd banding of colours in photos with unnatural colours in the shadows. it was less vissible in the videos. And jobs where I needed absolute colours, it was shit. again, if you have never used the newer sony camera, or new to the fullframe, you wont know this so get it. its still a huge upgrade from apsc or whatever. I remember my fist time with it and my mind was blown. Now im just a spoiled brat with a bad mouth. EDIT: built quality wise a7iii is better. have you seen the memory card door on the a7iv and the a7siii. I have not used the a7rv but Im in need of it.lol
I agree about the color! When you try to use A7III footages with other new sony cameras like A7IV, it's a bit tricky to match the color. But if you use only A7III, I think it'll be alright!!

I get work where I have to edit footage from different cameras and make it look presentable so I dont mind the video feature. it still holds up. But the photos, i dont know. I just cant make it work.

No, you shouldn't aim for any "R" camera for low light. Too small pixels.

The a7iii have only 24mp as the a7rv have 61 mp. Its easier for a lense to deliver a sharp image to fewer mp.
