    4:49 this is false.
    You are correct that a helmet is designed for only one impact, and that's because the impact will compress the foam in the helmet *while your head is in it*. If you were to drop an empty helmet, there wouldn't be any weight inside the helmet to compress that foam. So unless the outer shell of the helmet were to crack, it should be fine to continue using.

    Yo! This video needs to be shared more. Thank you for this. I was so caught up in getting a cool full face $300 helmet but I'm gonna go with more affordable full face helmets. I ate crazy shit going 26mph and my helmet absorbed all the impact. I didn't feel shit! LOL. Thank God!

    I prefer an ultra light full face with mips and yeah they cost a lot. Like the troy lee stage or the fox proline. All the cheaper full faces are significantly heavier. Having a lighter helmet is great for anyone who does a lot of distance. My group is doing 90km runs often. It significantly lowers neck fatigue. A heavy helmet does have a big impact. A nice helmet made a huge improvement on my motorcycle also. I have also noticed that the peripheral vision on a lot of the cheap helmets is terrible. After running Nexx helmets on my motorcycle for years, I really appreciate the extra wide view. However, buying it because it is pretty and being scared to scratch it is another story.

    All the gear all the time right my man? I’m very happy you are being vocal about safety and even bring up the minimum requirement of certifications. All the pros and cons are exactly the ones people bring up when looking into helmets. However it does make me sad when people have to consider a “budget” safety item and it really should not be a term used in this category. The conclusion should be: purchase the safest, albeit typically the more expensive, helmet you can afford because it’s not a matter of if you go down but when. Lower tier helmets will protect you from damaging your skull but more advanced helmets will reduce the effects of brain damage. We all want everyone to get home safely. Helmets are an insurance policy and it’s cheaper than a medical bill.
    Thanks again for pushing safety and it’s minimum requirements. Eskating is getting to that level where basic responsibilities and skills need to be taught/shown. Keep it up!

    I didn't want to pay $350 or more for an esk8 or cycling helmet. I bought a Whit3 Shift helmet for less than $150 which is DOT certified. I ride motorcycle already so the weight does not bother me. I just want to be protected traveling at 27mph on the street.

    E-Skate journey and I’ve been riding for two years my RUROCK helmet is for show and for those days where I’ll test my “worth “ on my board meaning high speeds and riding right next to cars on these Bronx streets , I get the flash and the glamor of owning an expensive helmet but I regret not paying the extra replacement fee because one day I know due to human error or board error an accident is very possible

    Money isn’t cheap, money is hard earned. Just because something cost more does not make it better. I have a 60$ bmx helmet that’s awesome and solid. A crappy helmet, people don’t want to wear and it’s defeated, that s why I bought a cool, comfortable, safe helmet that I actually use.

      No helmet is a guarantee. You could easily impact a helmet hard enough to cause helmet failure. Then you’re proper fucked. My point, that you didn’t understand. The cost of a helmet is no determination of the quality of the helmet. An uncomfortable, uncool helmet will never be worn. I actually do wear my helmet as I’ll ride at 30mph often. The important part of a helmet that yootti didn’t get, a unworn helmet is worthless, even if you paid 400. 🖕

      If a scratch on a helmet compromises integrity, then I wonder if a baseball cap is better...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • @EAGLINWRX
      @EAGLINWRX 3 роки тому

      @@JT-xf9sw these “expensive” “motorcycle” helmets are designed to protect you when you’re flying down the highway or track at 60-100 mph and you hit the ground. They are designed to brace initial impact and maintain a slick surface for the following skid. So the outer shell is slick and flexible hence why it scratches, the inner foam is squishy but also brittle in areas, where it may fracture. Once that inner foam loses integrity the helmet can’t perform its best meanwhile all you might see on the outside is some scratching and abrasion on the shell. Now that’s for high speed, I bet you if dropped it off the table and scratched it up you’d be fine. But when you have full body weight behind the impact that’s important to consider the life of the helmet.

    I just want to correct you real quickly, "skateboarding" helmets are in the category of bicycle helmets and therefore does not need to be DOT approved and most aren't and by most I mean all of them. Assuming you're talking about Predator or TSG because only those 2 brand are popping in the Electric world at that price point. They are not DOT approved and only motorcycle helmets are DOT approved with some rear case of other kinds of sports helmets. There are certifications for bicycle helmets but it certifications is different. Also with the carbon fiber helmets. You already know about carbon fiber but yes a full face carbon fiber skate helmet would be better than most DOT approved motorcycle helmets, simply because most DOT approved helmets is no better than a cotton pillow on your head.
    With that I do agree with one thing. Helmets should not be viewed as something besides expendable after it's purpose like a condom.
