Lol same bro. "just a quick test" ='d broken wrist... freak bail. medium amount of regular skateboarding experience as well before that. First proper broken bone too. Got that out of the way I guess lol
I ate it after two months of building confidence, and working up to higher speeds. I think God that my injuries were not that bad, but they were definitely in enough to make me go out like Michelin man from now on.
I’ve only had one really bad fall in my electric skateboard. However, I’ve had a lot of bad falls on all my other skateboards and snowboards, my instinct and my muscle memory has taught me to not catch myself with my arms and instead to fall on my back
I got an injury, without falling off. Apparently I rode so much that the vibrations caused a stress fracture in one of my foot bones. And because I kept riding, thinking the pain was just fatigue, the crack in the bone grew larger over time. The lesson, is that while feet hurting is normal when you start to skate to some extent, it might be something more serious, and you should watch for pain that feels like it doesn't "reset" between riding sessions.
@@DanielKwan Yeah. I knew something was up when I started having difficulty walking. Went to get x-rayed. Spent two months skateless and my foot covered in supportive tape. It healed very slowly, I really shouldn't have let it get so bad.
I just recently had a bad spill on my board gotta be honest this was the one time I wasn’t wearing a helmet but I ended up only getting road rash due to how I fell. It’s important to know how to fall because if u don’t know how too it can get a lot worse. Luckily I rolled so the only thing scuffed up was my arm nothing else was hurt. The most important thing when it comes to safety in my opinion is how to fall and roll it really reduces damage and doin it well will only get u a couple scrapes no matter the speed.
I just fell yesterday (I've had my board for 2 weeks, still figuring out what I can get away with) and I was wondering how the algorithm knew about it. Turns out it's just the newest video
hahaha Love your ending. Great advices, I am just now almost done my recovery on a fall that fractured my left arm bone. I was wearing protections and it saved me from getting worst but now I want more and better protections... specially for knees, elbows and shoulder. I also just purchased the hip protection from triple 8 along with their knee and elbow EP 55 and KP 22. Gloves is something im still pondering. i never thought the ones with the puck would be a good idea since the puck makes it impossible to hold the remote but didnt know you could move it down, thats good to know! Thanks again Mr Kwan for an excellent video, you deserve more recognition!
Great video, loosened my trucks wayyyyyy to much to carve smooth and simply had the board slip away from me and I still have a ugly scar from it but videos like this kept me safe.
The padded jacket is my favorite. It saved me from major road rash. Mine has vents that cool you off in the heat and an extra removable layer for different seasons.
Nice collection of safety gear. I agree with the basics. 👍 For pads I am using G-Forms and gloves I really like the Flatland 3D gloves. Like having slide gloves but you are still able to hold a remote.
Another option for gloves are flatland pucks. They are shaped to fit most remotes. I love it when my backfire remote gets in the way so I use flatland pucks cuz the shape allows me to hold remote
I’ve had one really bad fall where I lost grip on a puddle of water that I didn’t notice was there because it was covered by leaves. Always wear a helmet!!
THis a life FACT. There are people that love to skate and people that love the IDEA of skating. You will know quick which one you are. If you fall, hurt yourself a bit and get right back on without hesitation, guess which one you are? Falling is just a part of skating. Nothing like sliding across the ground at 30mph like you are stealing home because of bad foot placement or too much weight on your back foot. Great video!
Like that you called out gloves with pucks and the adjustments you can make. There is a skate school that teaches you how to fall by sliding on your knee pads and gloves with pucks. Broken controller way cheaper than a broken wrist
Just got the Meepo AWD Pro, it's a pretty sketchy ride which does force me to wear protective gear even at lower speeds, I longboard with a Landyachtz Time Machine and it's so comfortable that I don't wear protective gear other than wrist guards (I don't go downhill, I don't go fast on it, I have time to land on my protected hands if I need to. If I was going faster than I can push I would *definitely* be wearing a helmet and pads. Only used the wrist guards 3 times during the first week of longboarding years ago, but I do need my wrists to not be broken). Would recommend wrist guards over just gloves however because ideally you fall onto your hands, with wrist guards you reduce the chance of breaking your wrist.
Thanks so much for this video! I was really curious about this & I think so many e-skaters care more about fashion than pads. I'm a skateboarder looking to get into electric for my commute. Your daily wear helps me figure out what I should get that I don't already have. Looks like everything is common between both except for gloves that can hold a remote. Probably best to try some in store in a longboard shop. Thanks again!!!
2nd vid I've watched. Lovin the personal safety experience share. Never e boarded. Just longboarding & now one wheel. The safety equip applies though. Thanks for your input!
I just put velcro tape on the remote and then stick the puck to the remote, and then stick the puck+remote to the glove. That way if you fall it grinds the puck instead of the remote.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my LazyRolling hoodie! I got the reflective one. Super comfortable (after about 10 minutes I forget I'm wearing pads) and extremely well-made - absolutely worth the price and wait. It might get a little hot in the summer but I feel much safer wearing it.
Great material, thank you! Have you thought about extra level of protection to include a shoulder brace to prevent dislocations (12-24 months to heal) and padding around hip bones?
As someone with loads of experience longboarding and (diy)esk8, I believe its up to the rider. But personally even if you have that experience please ride safe
