Ideally you want to run this pedal in your effects loop, a decent overdrive in line that's medium output would work great. A boss super overdrive or mxr sugar drive maybe

Nothing to do with Metal Zone. This is a great pedal, especially if you use an overdrive before it. One of the best pedals for metal in the market.
