If you knew the history of the Madscad you would know that Damon, the owner of Nomad lures based its design exactly off the stick shadd because when he was running charters for years off the Great Barrier Reef, he himself stated that the stick shadd was the most versatile, best producing lure out of any lure they ever used whether it was the reef flats to deep pinnacles and atolls for GTs. If you notice, all the madscad sizes are nearly identical to the Sebile Stick Shadd sizes. He also stated the 9” Magic Swimmer was used all the time for everything including GTs but rigged with an assist hook off a heavy duty split ring from the nose as opposed to the hook hanger. I will also say that the new generation stick shadds are much more durable then their first generation predecessors and that the floating 182 stick shadd (a wildly underused lure in the canal because everyone thinks “fast sink everything” there) when canal rigged with a heavy enough treble to keep the lure lower on the surface (and to prevent it from blowing out of the water in current) has better action than any of the madscad range due to the fact that it has much less lead in the tail freeing up the action, and all the madscads are sinking lures. Don’t get me wrong, Nomads lure range is incredible, but their flagship casting lure was directly based of the Sebile original that he built his charter business off of, and he obviously refined and improved upon it to withstand the insane power and teeth of the target species of the GBR….and he’ll have no problem admitting that and giving credit where it’s due. Another side note: Sebile made a version of the first generation stick shadd that wasn’t readily available in the United States (and I know because I tried so hard to get them all the way back in 2010) called the Salt and Sun series and I still have a few of those that I scoured from the Internet. They made a 210mm size (like they do now) but this came with doubled 300lb test split rings and Owner ST-66 trebles out of the box. They made a pattern called “mackerel blues” that was and still is an incredible mackerel pattern and way ahead of its time. I’ll make it my profile picture so you can check it out.
@@maximiliansadchikov393 😂😂😂😂after 2 months of using the stick shard, the whole stick shard is filled with water due to the crack. nomad Mascad 2 years later, still not a single crack and swim sexy.
@@vsonic86 you can also find the 182 stick shadd which the 190 madscad was based off for $15 or less where the madscad is a $35 dollar lure so you’d expect a durability difference. I’ve fished the same floating 182 stick shadd since 2016 when the 2nd generation came out and it’s still going strong. Don’t get me wrong, I’m usually all about paying the extra money for the quality and I’m not discrediting the madscad because it’s a great lure. And my post before was just to show that the Owner of Nomad openly tips his cap to Patrick Sebile for the stick shadd design. I personally think they’re both great lures and the application and angler preference will dictate the choice being made.
Have you ever caught and Albi on the Hopkins spoon ?? and what would you say is the best way to fish it from a beach ?? straight retrieve, jigging , slow and low to the bottom ?? Great Video !!
We only used the 4” so it wouldn’t drag the tank bottom. The bigger ones have worked great off of the beaches and boats for big bass! The plastic is tough like zman, huperlastics etc
@@GooseHummock I've had that daddy mack eel since it came out but some odd reason I never tried to use it never had any where to store it but I got a new surf bag made for canal so let's see i just gotta beef the hooks and see how it slings n swims. was just on bass on long island check out @ilovenythismuch on ig im coming up to the cape tomorrow hopefully I can swing by the shop again
The Hopkins looked so good. I was on the edge of my seat, waiting for a fish strike lol
Seriously, how could anyone ignore that Nomad Mascad. It is more durable than the Sebile Stick Shad and truly a killer at Canal.
We love em! Caught big bass, blues, and tuna on those things!
